One reported dead, several injured in Virginia Tech shootings

I blame Archie comics.

... People just need to realize that not everyone is stable, and the smallest thing could set them off.

There's an early Stephen King novel called Rage about a kid who shoots his teacher and takes the class hostage. Some dickwad did it in real life and the cops found a copy of the book in the dickwad's locker. At the time, King said they should prosecute the kid and then sue him for plagarism.

Some people have a defective reality button, and it could just as easily be the dog barking next door ("Gingersnap tells me I need to kill EVERYONE!") or radio waves from Planet X that sets them off.

King eventually pulled the book off the market. He got sick of it being found in lockers after this kind of stupid thing happened.

Jihad = Counterstrike enthusiasts

BOOM! HEADSHOT!

I don't see how conclusions like this can be drawn unless the kid is wearing Halo armor when he goes out.
I gotta say, when I first saw screenshots of Cho's little mid-morning movie, I said "well he's certainly dressed like Counterstrike".

But all signs say that he hadn't played it since high school, so it was probably moreso for dramatic effect instead of actually playing out his virtual fantasies.

Copycat actions is not motivation, therefore you can't point to them as the blame. Although I do get some good ideas from watching at pr0n, so... maybe that 'rough sex' wasn't my idea after all! :D

They say your chances of dying in an airplane crash are less than the world ending as the result of a meteor impact.

Which makes no sense, seeing as there are many plane crashes recorded in the last several years. And not a single meteor impact.

What gives statistics?

Um, wut?

Statistically it's a completely acurrate statement.

Its skewed statistics, when an airplane goes down up to maybe 300 people die, when a really bad meteor comes down, up to 6billion can die, if one meteor big enough to wipe out humanity hits the earth, it would take 20,000,000 airplanes crashing to come out with the same "chances of you dying". Not only that but most airplane crashes have a lot less than 300 passengers.

But yeah, even then I think given a billion years, more people will die overall from airplane crashes than meteors =P (assuming technology doesn't change for a billion years lol)

Yeah I remember hearing that. I have the entire Stephen King library but I do not have this book. Makes me cry. :(

Sick what people try to blame things on. I've read a lot of stories about a lot of different things and the levels of violence in some of the books that I've read have been pretty severe, but I'm one of the least violent people I know (kidney punching Nocturnus doesn't count :P).

You're either the type of person that will do this kind of shit or you're not and society needs to put those kinds of people out of their misery. And I'm not talking about just depressed people, I'm talking about stone cold sick and twisted and evil killers that you just cannot and will not reach no matter how much therapy you give them. I believe those types of people do exist and I don't believe that every single person out there can be helped. And I think that if you've done this kind of act or something similar, you give up your right to have any bleeding heart try to help your ass.

It's a horrible tragedy. Unphazed and I will be going to graduation there next month to see Nocturnus, Jimm, and Phyrus graduate and it will be very sad I'm sure. I can't even think of what it would be like to have had a child that was going to graduate there next month and suddenly because of some dumbass it's not happening. It's too horrible to contemplate. :(

Speaking as someone who has gone through some pretty rough shit herself, I think I'm well within my right to say who the fuck gives a shit?

I hit a time in my life when I realized I could quit sniveling and get over that shit or I could let it ruin my life. I chose to realize it happened and realize that I couldn't change it happening but could change how I lived my life when I got out of my house my own way and move on with my life.

He was old enough and EDUCATED enough to know that what he did was wrong. Whatever shit he went through in his past (if he'd even BEEN through anything), he'd been at Virginia Tech long enough to get his shit together and realize he had his life ahead of him to do whatever he wanted with it. He CHOSE to be a dumbfuck, he made that choice every day. I have no pity for him, I have great pity for his victims and their families and friends. They didn't have that choice.

Nothing one could possibly go through could ever remotely justify such actions.

That's all fine and dandy but you can't judge a person until you've walked a mile in their shoes and being as he's dead now, no one will ever know what exactly he went through.

There's no such thing as a justified reason for killing anyone, but there's always a cause. To deny him of going through any pain is to deny his own right to live.

Everyone goes through pains and hardships in their life, some much more than others. And some handle it much better or worse than others. I'm just saying that there's nothing in the world that can ever justify the actions he's done.

Indeed, you can't judge someone til you've gone through what they have, but some things don't require judgment: murder is always going too far. There is no measurable amount of pain or suffering one can go through before it becomes a justified action. No magic number or weight of straw, if you will.

I agree, there's no possible justification or excuse for what he did. People always look for a reason when things like this happen. Even if he did have <insert reason here> happen to him, it doesn't get him one ounce of pity from me. It's his own fault he was too weak/selfish/stupid to get over it. None of us can change what has happened to us in the past, we can however affect our decisions.

He CHOSE to buy those guns, he CHOSE to use them in a calculating manner to rob those kids of their futures. He was selfish and weak and doesn't deserve one bit of understanding or pity.

Maybe he did have a severe mental condition for awhile, EXACERBATED by people who treated him horribly.

I'll say this much. If I ever picked on that individual in my life, in the very deepest darkest pit of my mind I would wonder if my own actions contributed at least a little to him going so far over the end.

People aren't born spewing out the things he stated in his manifesto. While there are ways people should deal with it, not everyone is able to handle situations the same way the majority of people say they would.

Hey, someone actually gets it. I feel sorry for the guy. He needed a friend and he needed some help. What he did was wrong but saying he deserved to die (or deserved anything else horrible) makes you just as bad as he was before he carried out the actions he did. I can relate to the guy. I had somewhat similar feeling toward some things and a similar personality when I was in high school. I wish he could have had the help he needed so he didn't end up doing what he did. It sickens he hearing his old roommate talk about how he would have stayed away from him if he knew what the guy was really like. I would have done my best to make friends with him. I wouldn't have stopped trying until we were no longer around each other.

I think back on my life all of the time and wonder how I would have turned out if I didn't have the one friend I had and didn't have the tiny bit of support I received. I don't think I'd be alive today. It has nothing to do with being weak or knowing right from wrong. If you don't know what the guy went through then you have nothing to compare to. You have no clue how you would have reacted.

Anyways.. yeah.
