I will not tolerate any arguing, bashing, baiting, or anything of the sort in this thread whatsoever. If you do not conform to this request you will receive a 10 point infraction and you will be on read only for 7 days.

The hottest topic of the last week and a half has been the reputation system. It has been brought to light that a lot of people are using it to simply bash people instead of give genuine reasons as to why their post deserved a rate down. It's also being used as a different way to PM friends. One of those options is fine, the other is not however. We will be discussing if and how we will be viewing the reputation and fixing that issue. Personally, I am thinking of making a new usergroup that will allow users to have the option to take away their reputation...however they will be unable to give any reputation. That would solve that problem. It would cause a little bit of work for the admins, so it is something that will be discussed.

QCDN has come to terms with the release of Mr. Wonko and neopyhtal. They will be given jr. premium memberships. We wish them the best of luck in the future.

You will see Taurothar being the moderator for The Lounge and Reality Sinks In boards. Tenkax will be moved from Global Moderator to the arts forum where he will conduct contests for the players as well.

With that being said, Arc and myself will be on the lookout for new Global Mods to help us out. We are moving duties around a little bit. Global Mods will now be in charge of reported posts and whatnot. If you do not receive a PM in regards to your reported post within 24 hours then re-report it or PM a global mod/admin.

This is a small note from myself. It may be a good read as it has a hint of some things that are to come.

I'm not exactly sure how long I've been admin on this board. It was ultimately by mistake. I was in a class for programming and I asked Reeve if I could view the functions as admin for a little bit. It was a good learn and I got a decent grade in the class. I was going to be asking to be bumped down to Super Mod again but found out that CmdrFly was going to be leaving his rank as administrator. I will be honest and say that I am proud to have worked with him as he was one of the best things to happen to this site in a long time.

In the time that I have been given the main administrator position I really would like to say that I have also brought a lot of good things to the site as well as fix a couple. Maybe it's taking it's toll on me but all the animosity that I have been exposed to in the last week while viewing reputation comments and looking at posts a little more closely is personally making me sick.

That being said, I will tell you that I am growing overly tired of people bashing the moderation team, calling us worthless, and feeling that we aren't doing anything of value. Most people wonder why we don't have mods that do much. I personally think it's partially my fault. I have done my best to give the users of QCDN the benefit of the doubt and put them over my own team. That won't be happening anymore.

Let me say this here, if you have a problem with the staff or any decision that was brought out, seek us out and speak to us. If you hold any animosity towards the staff and constantly post about our blunders and make sarcastic remarks, you are doing no help.

I like to think that I have done a lot for this board. We've had updates, some good and some bad, but ultimately the site is still here and people are still using it. We normally have at least 200 people surfing it at one time. Everyone on the staff does what they can to keep this place decent. I notice now that some rules we have are not strict enough however. Flamebaiting is something that will be looked at in the very near future. I won't be attempting to make this site Sculli-like but I will be looking into making more punishments for flamebaiting outside of our illustrious flameboard.

One more final thing...when items like the reputation are brought up and cause such a ruckus that requires so much of the administrations time, the fun things we are working for on this site get postponed. I've been working on a really nice new template for this forum that would be based off of the BLM job in to make it feel more FFXIish. I have had it constantly put off because of bickering. You say you want things done to this site? Stop sweating the small stuff. We are mostly all adults, or we should be at least over the age of 13. I don't think it's too much to ask that we act with a little decency when we visit this site.

Thanks,

Mir

Is this golf rules? If not, can i have 10 points?

I think this is well written and I look forward to whats coming up for QCDN.

Thanks for your hard work.

Three cheers for Miros! The idea of a new usergroup to opt-out of the rep system pretty much perfectly solves the problem. Keep up the good work!

I 4th the approval of this thread, and am glad that the modmin team is starting to stand up for its self.

Despite an occasional disagreement with how something is handled, I have always been grateful for everything you guys do behind the scenes, as I've said many, many times. It's pretty obvious you guys care, and it's also very obvious that is why you're still mods and why you've been driven to the brink of insanity about this site. We don't say it enough, so THANK YOU, thank you, thank you and thank you. Mistakes will be made, shit will happen, & life will go on. You don't sweat the small stuff too, and remember that for all everyone's bitching, we do appreciate that you help keep this community up and running. Keep on doing your thing. :)

WTH... this isn't stickied?!?

Hi, my name is Lucki, and I approve this thread.

Edit: My spread more rep...

I don't approve of a usergroup that can simply erase their reputation because it circumvents the entire thing. Well, the reputation score part of it anyway.

Maybe if there was a way to freeze the reputation at the level where it was when the user opted out of the system, that would be better. Perhaps (after moderation of them) show the last 10-20 reputation comments left to view a trend at the time. Of course this would be a crazy amount of work shortly after implementation. Maybe just show what type of rep (up or down) and for what post? If this is even possible anyway.

Would also have to be a permanent change. There are clearly people who would "abuse" this sort of thing, just so they don't have a red dot, or because they don't have an amazing mixture of green and blue.

Personally, I think the rep system, with the new ignore function, works decently well. I also think it should apply to everyone, or no one, just with how it works. Obviously, not everyone agrees with me, and I think what I've suggested would be a nice compromise between the two. If it's possible anyway.

As far as flamebaiting goes, whatever you decide on, please post some clear examples, and some grey area ones, as far as what is and what isn't flamebaiting. I would imagine that would be one of the most contested infractions, and something that would rub people the wrong way if they feel they got the short end of the stick. It's also probably one of the hardest things to actually judge, most of the time.
Maybe (if people actually volunteer) have a separate group of people who could just judge any reported flamebait. They would have to be uninvolved with most situations and be in relatively good standing with the community, which is obviously the catch. But if you have a group that isn't Mods, and that isn't part of the situation, I think most people would accept their "objective" view on what is and isn't flamebaiting more so than a Mod's discretion. Even though they trust this discretion on other things.

It's obvious you guys care because you're trying to help, and actually doing something instead of "meh"-ing it off. We do appreciate it, even if we don't agree with it all the time.

Yeah, thanks a lot for the arbitrary canning. Hope it made you feel better.

This is pretty much like that whole gray dot deactivate rep thing yet with alot more programming involved? Is it not?

... Does this mean, if you have negative rep, you can join the group and clear your rep, then leave the group and start back at zero?

Kind of like the morning after pill.

No. The way it would work is the user that would like to be secluded from the reputation would have to send us a PM and tell us that is what they would like. We would change their primary usergroup to the new group. It would have all the same accesses as the regular users, however they will not be able to rate up or down. It will not have an option to leave as it would be their primary group.

If it's between the options of leaving the system alone, or disabling it completely, I say leave it alone.

If it's between disabling it per-person and disabling it completely, I say disable it completely.

This is just a new grey dot, really, and it's better to just turn it off than try to fix something that isn't broken. I was asked the first question, and not the second, so if it's possible or even matters, consider this a change to my previous vote in the other thread.

Thanks so much for all the hard work Miros - I couldn't handle being a mod, all the negative feedback, bitching and moaning just really got under my skin and I was really starting to resent qcdn for it. You're made of sterner stuff than I am and QCDN has been great since you guys took over - I appreciate the amount of time and work you put into this community! Thanks again :)
