Since chpal started the Rdm thread I decided to start a pld thread. 51 is a bit of a ways off still since I haven't levelled my main in quite a while but I'd like to know a few things. First, I am going to get the dark staff simply because it would make getting my limited amount of MP back quicker. But I want to know if you guys think the Earth Staff is really worth levelling my staff skill up and spending the gil on.

I understand that it blocks 20% of physical damage but you lose your shield (i block quite a few hits with that), your sword (lvl 51 i'd have the Tact. Mag. Espadon Dmg 38 Delay 257 Atk +12), and Shield Bash (could be remedied with an equip macro though). I was thinking the Earth Staff might be good for maybe NMs or mobs that have an attack that clears HP really quickly (Pugils Screwdriver, Death Scissors, 'cockatrice attack where they hit you with some tremendously hard beak attack') Anyway, I figured I'd ask for advice/opinions on this since I know we have a few veteran plds here.
 
I would never use Earth Staff for straight up tanking, just for Kiting. When it comes to tanking something face to face I dont think anything beats sword/shield, but if you're runnin around being spanked and just voking every 30 seconds the staff is the way to go. Also, Dark Staff is damn sexy. I never thought I would need one because I static with one of the best RDM on the server (/cheer Miyatsumi) and she never lets me run out of MP, but I've had to pt without her lately and have gotten BRDs alot. Dark Staff is invaluable for BRD pts.
 
hahahaha.. what's up Jimm. too bad you had to die for your savage blade. but congrats again... you and Firestreak. you should have Firestreak show you this "cute" thing he did... Papillion > Savage Blade = Tarutaru flying. hahaha... "If you had wings.... you could fly!"

anyhow, narell... i bought earth staff when i hit 70 and i started leveling my staff skill. 1)because i've been bored and 2)for kiting (as Jimm said) and for whatever battles. but yeah, dark staff i wish i bought a long long time ago when i hit 51. i never realized how valuable that staff can be. that thing generates mp like a mutha fu... i mean, just as long as you aren't any part of the skill chains, then it'll be ok to lose that tp from your sword to switch to staff and rest.
 
staff would be great to have unless your actually part of a sc. that isnt common though unless your aroun 66-68 where the pld and one otehr person actually has the WS that creates the drk and/or light sc and that you have to use tp to do those sc.but once everyone in pt has those ws, then your back to doing the norm and resting between fights
 
psh... you know what? I'll give u the same answer as chapal, you should get earth, light, and dark staves. Have u seen the price? earth staff is 200k! i remember it being 600k+, dark? what used to be 600k is just 110k! and light? hahaha this one used to be 400k+ easy and now its just 100k! You should buy them JUST to have it. WOOOO! hell get 2 of each -.-;
 
HNMs

Earth staff is for HNMs. if you in a HNM/sky LS those are nice to have for kites.
Dark staff is awesome for me im taru pld/war.
