Movie Paranormal Activity

i honestly have never been to a packed theatre to see a movie and have it be completely silent during most of the movie, and then when it ended it was still an eerie silence.

I have, when I saw "The Passion of the Christ" on opening day in 2004.

I'll be interested to see if that occurs with this film.

Alternate Endings:

Spoiler:
Apparantly there was another ending to the movie, when i saw it in theatres, i got the ending where Katie throws Micah into the camera then kills him and makes some crazy face to the camera, and shes never heard from again.

However, today while i was at the barber shop, they had a pirated copy of the movie, no it wasnt filmed it was like a real digital copy, but it had a different ending. The ending didnt have Katie launching Micah into the camera, she just leaves him downstairs and she shits at the foot of the bed rocking back and forth.

She stays like that for over a day and someone knocks on the door and gets in and discovers Micah (By the sounds, it seemed like his mother) but didnt go upstairs to see Katie, later on the police came in, before they made it up stairs you see the lights in the other room turn off and on, assuming the demon was there. The cops come up and discover Katie and she seems to act normal and gets up (With the knife in her hand) and starts shouting for Micah, running towards the police officers who then shoot her, and that was it.

Was this the original movie or were multiple versions shown?

There is a reason for the alternative ending.
When the movie released so select theatres, the reason was because the company told the director if he wanted a nationwide release he would have to reshoot the entire movie with new actors and add more content if it didnt do well, spielberg also said he should change the ending before even doing that.
So, he did.
And we all know the movie did well and went nationwide without a reshoot.
and honestly, i dont think that should have ever been an idea. It did not need a reshoot!

I saw this movie and I thought it was pretty bad.

Either the actors were really bored and didn't take their role seriously. Or they were playing people who were unable to ever act serious. Even when they're angry or pissed off they're still never serious. The guy who played Micah is still joking around when he's seeing what can't still be described as a joke. Maybe they're absolutely brilliant actors and their characters are supposed to be that way. I don't know. Just worth mentioning it.

It's never scary to me. There were people in the theater scared, but they were all the fat teenage girls who were all around me not shutting the fuck up.

The "surprising" bangs are predictable, even the biggest one. I mean, you won't always know exactly what they'll be, but you'll know they're coming, and if you're smart, exactly when, and you won't be surprised.

The movie has a lot of moments where distinguishing low level audio is important. There's nothing wrong with this... except practical reasons. Nobody in the theater would SHUT THE FUCK UP. Offline, I'm a fairly relaxed guy. But I was fucking pissed off. There was that fat, ugly, little 12 year old kid in what I thought looked like a boy scout fucking uniform behind me who wouldn't shut the fuck up. His friend who talked less often but at normal speaking voice. The late people who kept coming in up to 25 minutes into the movie, talking loudly as they tried to find seats. The apparent throwup down the end of the aisle and people discussing the throwup, the loud ushers talking to people as they cleaned it up. There were the fat latino girls who kept talking to each other directly to the left of me, one of whom I asked twice to "please be quiet." There were 2 sets of girls directly behind and to the back who had at least one friend who kept talking.

In scenes when characters were trying to hear something, I hear cell phones going off. I can't tell if noise of "voices" is coming from the movie or from the theater. At one point a guy from the left makes an annoying donkey noise trying to play for laughs, and of course, makes a lot of noise afterwards laughing at his own noise(no one else was).

The movie was pretty much ruined for me, but I don't think it was that great to begin with. I came in high off ganja and still wasn't frightened.

But there's one thing I realize without a doubt. People who are drawn to see horror movies in theaters are mostly ASSHOLES. Haven't watched one in a theater since Boogieman and doubt I ever will again. I can't imagine teenagers getting more mature in the future.

^ Basically how my experience, i think the only way i wouldve enjoyed the movie, maybe even gotten the least bit scared was if i was the only person in the theatre.

wow and i thought i lived in a bad theater area. This movie was dead silent for me when i saw it in a packed theatre.
and fire, Micah's character is supposed to be the insensitive guy who takes nothing seriously and has to do everything himself. He was supposed to be that way, and knowing people like that character certainly made him more realistic.

I saw this finally last night and I thought it was great.

Spoiler:
Predictable? Sure, when the movie thanks the families and the police department at the beginning of the movie, it's hard not to guess that the events will recur and not end well. Not to mention the fact that the camera "time" in the corner deliberately slows down when something's about to happen. So the whole "it was predictable" thing is kind of obvious.

The beauty of the movie in my opinion was that it played on people's worst fears. If there's a sanctuary in your home, it's probably your bedroom - the place where you feel most secure and safe at your most vulnerable. The fact that these things happened in that vulnerable place is, to me, what makes it so disturbing. When the thing starts messing around up under their covers and later takes her exposed foot and yanks her out of that bed and drags her down the hall, the hair on my arms was completely standing up.

I thought the actors did very well. From Katie portraying the genuine fear and anxiety to Micah portraying the arrogant macho man who can fix everything despite more knowledgeable people advising him otherwise. Their "relationship" seemed very real to me and it felt very documentary as it was supposed to.

All in all, I think they did a great job of making the story believable and there were parts in that movie that were not only breath-holding intense, but truly unnerving. The theater was packed last night, and everyone screamed a couple of times. It's definitely worth watching. In fact I would see it again, and I will also own it when it comes out on dvd/blu-ray.

I've heard that some people walked out because it was too scary.
And then I've heard some people walked out because it was so terrible.

It was decent.

Just finished watching and I have to say I enjoyed it. I needed a good mindfuck and this movie delivered it. One thing to note is that I saw the alternate ending noted above in which Katie just goes back upstairs and rocks, anyone know where I can see the other ending?

DVD release? haha. I was sketptical about this movie at first but after reading everything it sounds pretty interesting. I like movies that mess with your head.

One of my nurses brought in a pirated copy for me to watch and I wasn't impressed at all. Maybe I'm just too used to horror movies but anything remotely scary in this movie was a bunch of jump scares which could be predicted.

I think Mika's big boy attitude was just stupid. Talking smack to a fucking ghost like a moron. And the chick there...I forget her name. Christ, was she such a total bitch.

The movie could have used a lot more. Maybe a few 1 second faces in the shadows, maybe a little more back story on the actual demon, returning of the picture would have been a nice touch, some better acting would have been nice, and a few other things I can't remember right now.

I did like the counting of the nights though. Gave the movie a amittyville horror feel. I also liked the wigiboard(sp?) part. I thought that was kind of neat.

Just got back from seeing this with my boyfriend.

I wasn't too impressed either, and I am a super puss puss when it comes to seeing scary movies and this didn't really do it for me.

I think the thing that brought it down the most for me was the poor acting. I just couldn't get absorbed into the film or anything that was going on for the most part due to this.

However, I can appreciate the million dollar idea :)

Night 20 was pretty crazy and I have to side with Myrrh on the whole game board thing, that was pretty wild.

In conclusion, at least for me, I have to say the film was more hype than what it was worth.

Reya said exactly what I was going to post.

I got so many IMs and people coming up to me saying that they saw this movie. Lots of "oh my god it was so scary just go out and see it dude." Now while I'm not a fan of scary movies because they don't scare me, this one was pretty... whats the word... boring? I have mixed feelings. I was really into the movie because I was just waiting for something to scary me and it had an interesting story, but not only did nothing scare me, but it bored me a bit. I don't think they acted all that bad... even if they were better actors, I feel it would of been just a bit better but wouldn't of improved it much.

It was decent, but not the best I've ever seen. This is the reason I hate hype also ~_~.

P.S. Miros was the first person who told me to go see this because it was so scary. I now have to kick his ass.

if people have only seen the pirated version, its missing alot of scenes from the theatre, and the ending is completely different. There are scenes that are not in theatres also, but i thought the pirated copy was much much weaker.

People should have watched this movie before it was hyped. It was great when no one knew nothing about it, and everybody talking a lot.

It's not super scary per say, it just makes you think a little that is all. Still a good movie. I'm glad they didn't give much back story on the demon. It seems more real this way. I mean realistically, we wouldn't know anything about the demon anyway.
