I've always played on the PC, the first time I played, I used the keyboard/mouse, then after that, a friend got me into using a USB Xbox controller. I much prefer the controller. Being able to control movement while typing is probably one of the best qualities, although also being able to get into a more comfortable position while playing (as moving a controller is easier, and has a longer cord, than a keyboard) is nice too.
As for macros, they may be faster on a keyboard and such, but I've never had a problem using them with a controller. When it comes to things like casting spells, there's no real difference anyways, considering the wait time while a spell is casting is more than enough to move a few squares over in the macro list. That, and I was never able to get the hang of menus very well on the keyboard, but now I use the magic menu pretty heavily on the controller rather than having everything macroed for convenience. Well, aside from RDM, which is the only job I have currently that has much gear-swapping for casting.
I doubt I'd ever go back to the keyboard/mouse, as it just doesn't feel right to me. Just a matter of preference I guess, it just seems a lot easier to use for me.
