I don't know I think those crabs were the funniest part of the movie the rest of the jokes looked like an on stage theatrical performance. The movie in and of itself was not very funny. Then again I don't think Pirates is made out to be a comedy.

Because only Calypso knew that if you stabbed the heart you'd take Davey's place and she wasn't around when they were talking about what to do?

I really enjoyed all 3 movies. Have your gripes with them, but still they were pretty well made and damn good comedy. Honestly, the trilogy felt much the same as the Matrix trilogy, just not nearly to that bad of an extent. Both were two movies made after the huge success of the first, with the middle being a half-hearted lead up storyline to the coming third flick which ended up wrapping up the story in the only way it could without pissing off the entirety of the fan base.

This is why I'm very against unplanned sequels made after the success of a first movie. If you want to make a trilogy, you damn well better write all three at the same time so there is no issue of continuity. At least we haven't had to suffer through blatent actor changes (Oracle, Dumbledore, etc...) in the Pirates trilogy. I just hope they don't keep going and ruin any future movies with actor replacements, which is very likely in the Spiderman franchise.

I honestly think if the original Star Wars trilogy was released today people would of hated it. People have become oscar fishers and it makes me sad. Movies just can't be fun for the sake of being fun. You have an army of people ready to tear your work apart before it even hits the screen (IE Transformers).

Pirates is fuckin awesome, why? It's fun, it has enough story to keep you interested but not too much to bore you (IE Spiderman 3). I enjoyed Pirates because it was just a movie, there's no undlying moral or some social message in it. It's just fun. I think a lot of people can't just enjoy a movie anymore, the minute they're walking in they're critiquing and if they're not they're listening to everyone else around them critiquing.

Pirates was a movie made for kids based of a Disney ride - I think it's pretty rad and I really hope that more movies like this hit the set soon. I miss movies that the only thing you said when you came out was "Holy shit that was awesome"

Enjoying a movie depends on what you're looking for in the movie. If you just want to be entertained for your time in the theatre, fine. But some people like a good story, a nice plot line leading to a good ending. So if there a problems with that people are within their rights to say what they thought those problems were. This story was written all at once to be told over two movies, so I felt it should have been better. The first pirates was straight fun for me with a good story tied up neatly at the end, bringing an end to the curse the movie was named for.

For me personally since I write, I pay a lot of attention the storyline all the way through, and not just being entertained for 3 hours. To each his own, I've never been one to see or not see something based on what someone else says about it.

Sabs hit the nail on the head. I did walk out of that movie with that "OMG, that was kick ass" feeling. Very few movies have had that effect on me lately. Grindhouse and maybe even as far back as Wedding Crashers were the last two movies I saw that had me really feel good about the 8.75 ticket price.

The thing is if you want that kind of movie, go see that kind of movie. If this were a debate about the ins and outs of Children of Men I'd be a little more understanding. But this is an action/adventure flick done by Disney based on a ride. I'm not saying that there isn't a place for story intense, morally driven, incredibly written movies, but when you're going to go see a children's movie about Pirates - you're going to have to be a little more forgiving. I was actually impressed Pirates wasn't more of a Check your brain at the door flick. It had a great story, awesome action, funny/witty lines and was actually a lot darker than I thought it'd be.

It's like you guys are comparing Plato to JK Rowling, both great but you can't judge them on the same stage.

You're well within your rights to not enjoy Pirates but to call it down because it wasn't 'deep enough' or the script didn't blow your mind is a bit unfair. Sometimes you need to just enjoy something because of what it is.

I didn't say the plot wasn't deep enough if you read my posts on it. I said they started things they didn't have to, and then didn't do anything with them. Nothing to do with how deep the plot was, just how it got you wanting to see stuff that never came.

They did wrap up the first story though and started a new one in the 2nd. Based on this logic you could pretty much not make back to the future or Indiana Jones trilogys. I don't know why everything has to be wrapped up, personally. It's not like they stopped sailing the seas after the movie, the pirates didn't still get drunk in Tortuga and the British Navy didn't keep trying to stop them. I think it's nice to leave some stuff up to the imagination. They did it with the original star wars trilogy also, and look at all the awesome fan stuff that that spawned, Star wars was ruined when they tried to explain everything. Pirates III actually far surpassed my expectations and I'm looking forward to seeing it again in the IMAX.

PS: I'm not saying you're wrong as this is all just a matter of opinion and no camp is really right or wrong, just stating how I feel about the movie and the ridiculous amount of back lash it's getting.

I'm not talking about all three movies. I'm saying specific stuff in the third. Imagine if at the end of the first star wars, or the third, you have the a bunch of x-wing fighters and such going towards the death star, as a bunch of enemy fighters came out. Then just the millenium falcon or something just went out and fought one ship. Luke gets his shot off, or the emporer is defeated, and the movie is over, good guys win. No big space fight, just one fight while all the others watch. That's the feeling I got from the end of Pirates III with the way they set that up, and then just had 2 boats fight and the movie is over.

Edit: And since that was the end of the movie, that's the feeling I walked out of the theater with.

but calypso didnt tell any one.. u only found out when the stupid old fart on the boat yells it at ms swann -_-

everyones a fuckin critic

just sit back and enjoy the goddamn movie for once

I thought Chow Yun-Fat was wasted, and that his part could have been played by anyone.

oh yea cause they have Asian actors lined up for miles to portray a pirate lord from singapore, wait couldnt jackie chan have done a better job? or maybe jet li, hmmm

I like movies with good plots, and I know its a movie about pirates, but there is a point where double crossing, and double dealing gets to be too much.

thats what pirates do, if u payed attention when barbossa gave elizibeth to captain sao feng (chow's character) having him believe she was calypso will protested and says "their pirates" meaning their double crossing and sneaky...its in the nature of a pirate to be double crossing in order to get what he wants...jack's been that way since the beginning of the trilogy

And I also didn't like how they brought Calypso and Davy Jones romance to a climax near the end, and left it hanging out there.

i dont feel this was left hanging at all, both of them were betrayed by each other and calypso took her anger out in the form of the malestrom and when davy was killed he fell right into the heart of it, i dont know many relationships that had closure when both partners betray each other =/

1.) your comparing pirate ships to space ships here, theres an obvious difference, naval battle and space battle are two different playing fields

2.) when ur flagship goes down and your leader is killed your defeated, davy jones was dead, will commanded the dutchman and it and the pearl completely obliterated the armada's flagship, one of the reasons why the rest of the armada decided not to fight is because they witnessed how easily the dutchman and the pearl destroyed the Endeavour

when your two greatest weapons are taken from you with ease the most logical decision is to surrender...but thats just my opinion

i loved the movie and had no trouble following what was going on, although i was disapointed that i forgot to stay for the scene after the credits, oh well

That reason is completely flawed, because from the beginning it was simply the Dutchman vs the the pirate ship. What the hell was the whole armada doing? And why is it that only the Endeavor charged after the 2 teamed up?

Which is why having the pirates fight him (the one responsible for thier current circumstances) and the armada, while the flying dutchman fouught the Black pearl would have been a much better climax to the movie. Of course the british would have had the upper hand, but the defeat of the Dutchman would have turned the tide.

That would have been much better to me than watching 2 ships fight for as long as they did. They could've taken the time from that ridiculous wedding scene during the fight and used it. THey built all this up like it was just going to be this big explosion, and then they popped 1 firecracker.

What two fights can't go on at once. The ships are frozen until the flagship is destroyed? This is what I was expecting, and would've liked to see. Guess you didn't quote this part cause it didn't go towards your point.

So you've enjoyed EVERY movie you've ever seen, never had one problem. Just because someone disagrees on a movie you like, all of a suden they can't enjoy a movie at all?

im not saying that i've enjoyed every movie i ever seen im saying that just because i didnt like the movie doesnt mean i spend time picking its flaws apart and criticizing the entire fuckin flick like some ebert and roper wannabe, if you dont like it, fine, but dont ruin it for the rest of us

ninjar edit: becketts orders where for the Endeavour to sink the pearl, he gave no orders to the rest of the fleet and when he was killed and the Endeavour sunken there was no commander for the rest of the fleet so thus the armada was defeated

Beckett Charged the pearl after the dutchman went down he was about to give the order to the rest of the fleet when the dutchman resurfaced at this point beckett being the miniacle villian decided he was going to destroy the pearl with the dutchman at his side, but, as we know it didnt work out like that

Ding. He wanted the glory for himself. When he charged ahead in the first place, the dutchman was still at the bottom of the sea.

And as to why the rest of the armada didn't do anything? It was a freaking massive storm. They're not crazy like pirates are.

Ruining what, if you don't go see a movie, or don't enjoy it as much because of something someone said, that's on you. If someone is looking through here that hasn't seen it, should they get a one sided opinion, or hear multiple opinions. This is a discussion forum is in not.

The title of this thread isn't share your love for Pirates III.

thats not my point, my point is some people cant seem to sit through a movie without nit picking every little flaw or detail and killing the movie for the rest of the people watching it

no one can enjoy the fantasy of a movie with someone constantly pointing out flaws in the story or the little misplaced detail towards the end
