Pirates 3! (Spoilers, says I)

All I did was say my problems with the movie, and all of the sudden people are telling me I can't enjoy a movie, or just sit and enjoy the movie.

I was fine for the whole movie, I didn't even really care about Chow -Yun-Fat going out so early. Just at the end they built up this big coming battle for freedom between pirates and the armada, and didn't do it. If you weren't going to do it, don't build it up. Don't have Swann give the speech and don't have the pirates all cheering and raising flags like their gonna become one for a cause. That's not nit picking to me, that was a MAJOR let down for me.

ok so...what part of the entire armada plus the dutchman set to wipe out all the pirates and them overcomming both the dutchman and the Endeavour isnt a major win?

People keep missing my point. They built up this big fight with everyone. Gave this long empassioned speech about one last stand for freedom that got the pirates full of spirit and raising their pirate flags on every ship, ready to fight together, and they didn't. Why do all that and don't produce the fight? If the Black pearl had just went out from the stronghold and and fought the Flying dutchman in the malestrom I would have been fine. But I was all hyped to see this big sea battle, we were all like this is going to be good. Then all of the sudden we were like WTH, where was the fight, that's it.

EDIT: Not to mention that when they came out they were all pumped to fight the armada until more and more ships appeared and started to demoralize them. Then Swann gives this speech, and they're all ready to go take on the armada in one last stand, and they never do. They built all this up and never delivered it.

The part when the entire armada sat there like sitting ducks and there was no actual overcoming of the armada involved...maybe?

umm

the Endeavour was destroyed and the dutchman was taken over

that was the destruction of the armada

Some of us wanted to see actual "destruction." Not some "boo hoo our leader is dead lets run away" destruction.

Myself and Aaleel didn't like this particular point of the movie. We still liked the movie as a whole, so I'm not sure why we're still arguing.

well thats warfare for ya

not all battles lead to a complete destruction of the oposition

i think they did a pretty good job with that entire naval/dutchman battle

I just didn't like them setting up the fight and not doing it. And what the armada can't go fight the pirates AT THE SAME TIME the dutchman was fighting the Black Pearl? The malestrom was't strething across the entire sea so they couldn't get to each other. If they were going to end it like they did they just should have had the Black Pearl just go out and fight, no speech, no raising of the flags, just go and fight the dutchman.

it wouldnt be hollywood without all that =/

I really liked it and was surprised it got such mediocre reviews. The action sequences are unparallelled and it had a strong plot that made sense enough to carry the flash. You just have to take the comic action as a part of the series' identity. The ending didn't bother me in the least bit. I've heard that they aren't planning a fourth, and if that's true then the third ended true to the series. Barbossa's back. Jack lost his ship again but has a plan and a means. Will's by no means dead. It just makes it all the more interesting, and to end it like that is pretty strong for a series.

You wouldn't really want a story like this to have any sort of end, happy or otherwise. It's best that it ends by going on without us. To help answer some people's questions about the plot, the british fleet is probably still out there, and the pirates probably did what they said they would--"fight so they could run away."

A-. But then again I liked X3 for its guts and going out like it did, so I give series a lot of leeway.

I forget, again, why did Jack have a debt to pay to Davey Jones anyways?

davy raised the pearl from the sea

it used to be called the HMS Wicked Wench when jack was employed by the east indian trading company but it was sunk when jack defected and turned into a pirate

he had davy raise it back up and make him captain for 13 years before paying back

i like pirates of the caribean =X lol what can i say

I haven't seen the 2nd one on a while, but did Davy Jones bring him back from the brink of death too, because didn't he owe him 100 years of service, and that's why he had to get the 100 people to get out of it.

I saw a scene once where Jack had bullet scars in his chest. I could be wrong though.

The other Armada could not fight the pirates because Calipso's storm served as a barrier. Remember they were all ships with sails. Without Calipso, the pirates would have no chance.

I'll also mention for no reason, the Black pearl is the fastest ship because it's the only one with retractable ore's. Even so it would not stand much of a chance trying to tear it's way against the currents.

The malestrom was't strething across the entire sea so they couldn't get to each other. If they were going to end it like they did they just should have had the Black Pearl just go out and fight, no speech, no raising of the flags, just go and fight the dutchman.

The wirlpool is what kept opposing ships engauged for battle. And the final battle was indeed action packed. Pirates and demonic sea pirates swinging around on ropes trying to have at one another. Pleanty of cannon blasts, and sorry to say, alot of dead pirates and duchies (seemingly only the chinese pirates were getting killed, that may not sit well with the chinese communities)

The wedding induring battle may make some cross their arms and shake their heads. It was a successful attempt to blend comedy with how curagous the characters really were. Wedding 2 others who are subject to have their heads cut off at any given time, as well as the one with the self proclaimed invested power to do so, is a laughable matter.

Not saying everyone will laugh and enjoy this flick. But there is a code to critiquing movies. The trick is not to base it on you're personal taste, but to mark it for it's key factors. If you cannot understand what you saw, then you're opinion has no value in terms of labeling a project. We have critics that are already bashing the transformers movie just because the Transformers do not resemble their original appearances, and we'll hear more from them i'm sure. I too am dissapointed that they do not look like G1, but that aside one can't allow things like that set the film itself, it may suck for other reasons.

And just to add what i just wrote, if the Pirates III movie was no good, this very thread would not be on fire as it is now. Picking it apart "here" is like going to a Star Trek convention and critisizing the whole lot. It dosn't make sense to highlight what you don't get, over and over again when people here don't want to hear you're free speech. It's just asking for argument. Honestly, it really is.

On a personal note i thought the elements in Pirates III came together nicely. The Back stabbing was the driving force that sprung about the fruits of the main characters labour.

-Sparrow egging on Will to be more like himself then trowing him out there to do what Sparrow intends. Making Will's intentions stronger. Sparrow has such a way of enfeebling.

-Sparrow voting Elizabeth to be the pirate king because he knew her motives would work in his favour. (And clevarly voting last. Captain Morgan keeping everything legit lol)

-Barbosa breaking one of the pirates codes by disobeying the pirate King, in order to honor his word to Calipso, which ended up being the edge the pirates needed in the end.

A very detailed picture, i'm sure seeing it again one would see things they missed before.

A battle with the entire Armada + the success of the pirates wouldn't register correctly in risky terms and would tarnish the belivable aspects. In the art of war it's been a rule to retreat when the leader has fallen. That is the what the Dutchmen displayed in the end of the movie. The leader was foolish not to send his ponds to take the glory, the movie displayed this foolishness with bonecrushing slow motion FX which i think is a very appealing way to deliver the reasons behind the other ships retreating.

As a compromise to not have to go into Davey's service, Jack had to get 100 people to take his place in the bargain.

I'm perfectly capable of sitting down and enjoying a movie. For example I enjoyed 300 a lot which was a brainless action flick. Pirates on the other hand was a complex story driven plot where it was hard to even understand what was going on, not because it was "over my head" rather it was moving too fast and giving too little information. If they had just simplified it a little bit it would have been much more pleasant of a movie watching experience. All my friends who saw it with me were just looking at each other the entire time going, "what the fuck?" or making fun of the movie.

I'm not saying it's gotta be a heavy intellectual flick, just that it needs some sort of flow and sense.

I mean, yeah, I watched it and I was entertained for most of it, there were even some great moments and a lot of the action sequences were very cool... although some were soo unrealistic it was stupid.

They made it moderately entertaining, so they guarantee a ton of profit. If they want my praise they need something more than that alone. Obviously they geared their movie to being something people would want to see rather than something with any sort of message, so they get what they want.

This is why I'm very against unplanned sequels made after the success of a first movie. If you want to make a trilogy, you damn well better write all three at the same time so there is no issue of continuity.

To be fair, both of those casting changes were the result of the deaths of the original actors.

I have every right to say the things I personally didn't like about the movie, I didn't even say it was bad, I just said why I didn't like the end, and how I thought it could have been better. And I'm not the only on who had problems with it.

As far as the ships not being able to move or get around the maelstrom, once again my point is if you're not going to do the fight don't set it up. Everybody wants to keep telling me all these reasons why the fight couldn't happen realistically in a movie that's bent reality the whole trilogy. And that's not even my point, the fact that they did all that to set it up and didn't deliver it is. If you read I said that the ending would have been fine if they wouldn't have built the scene up the way they did, because it became a letdown for me when it didn't happen and affected my opinion of the movie.

I go back to my whole heart beating outside body, 40 foot goddess making a malestrom and blowing winds in two directions, people rocking a ship by running back and forth across deck, people coming back from the dead, etc etc, etc.

Edit: And yeah I went back and watched the first two again. And the scene where just had the bullet wounds was actually an extra scene that wasn't in the theater. Was a good scene too, i wonder why they cut it, wasn't too long.
