Player Alert: <Tooshie> Also, a newbie problem.

I think random tells for help should be expected...but they should also be proposed in the form of a question and not a demand they also should be presented in a polite manner with a full expectation of a decline. Getting mad at someone new because they ask you for help or a random question is silly unless it's in a rude fashion. Also getting mad because someone declines to help you when their reply is polite, eventhough they are refusing is also incredibly rediculous!
Being nice to fellow players high or low level can go a long way to make your experience in this game a whole heck of a lot more enjoyable!

Well helping isn't a bad thing by any means but for the love of god try to help yourself and don't default to immediatly asking for help without searching for the answers for yourself first and be prepared to not have your hand held through things. I can't think of a single "legitimate" question that I have been asked that I haven't tried to answer to a persons satisfaction.

On the other hand, I have meet many people who were too embarassed to ask any questions and that isn't a good climate for us to play in either. I met a young man in N. Gustaberg that very timidly asked me if he could bother me with a question. He asked me how was it that everyone else was running so much faster than he was. I simply told him to try hitting the / button on his number pad and that fixed the problem. This person had lvl'd his character to lvl 11 walking everywhere and was close to quitting over it. We may have lost a potentially good player over his hesitance to ask a question.

I guess for me the things I enjoy are getting new equipment but if I begged for money and got it that way the enjoyment of the new eqipment would be diminished becasue it would feel less earned. I enjoy going into areas with people of similar lvl and fighting against creatures that may kill us. I enjoy the smoothness of well played and organized parties. The risk of death and potential wasted time is what makes the reward satisfying. Missions and quests are so much more fun and rewarding when you do them the way it was originally meant to be completed instead of having a high lvl walk you through or buying as many quest items as possible through the AH. That is just my veiw on it.

Here's wat has worked for me so far for all the people who are rude or demand things from me. I just don't respond and go on my merry way. Sure sometimes I get some nasty /tells doing this, but they are wrong to begin with to ask. I just treat it like real life. When someone asks you from out of the blue, "Hey buy me a car!", you promptly say, "Get a job!" or just ignore them altogether. I choose to ignore them.

Being a thf when i'm seeking on average every 15m i'll get a /tell asking/demanding help. There is or maybe i should say was, a very simple solution to it all.. -just dont' reply- <--- this doestn work anymore

It seems as if the rude have stepped it up lately.. before no reply was good enough, ppl took the hint and moved on to the next person.. but now i'll get something like this.. it always starts with what they need "[help me out!]genkai1 [paper]" and after a couple min. "hello? can you help me?"... normally it ends here... but 3 out of 10 ppl go even further, they make sure i remember thier SN by calling me a hoe, or telling me "fuck off and have a nice day".. <--- if your trailor trash.. maybe u shouldn't play video games and focus on learning some manners and getting an education..... OR they leave a comment saying "hey you must have no life.. it took me this long to get to 50 and ur 70.. loser get a life" <-- This pisses me off... ppl who say this are flat out hypocrites... Its at this point where i just call a GM

one last note, if your one of the 20 or so ppl who have msged me to PL and your reading this... a thf/nin can't PL

That just makes me laugh   You should write their names down bro so we can pay them a visit later. If you think about it, half the total XP needed to go from 1>>>75 is made after level 68. Don't let them get to you bro, these are the same fruitnipples that hit 60 and quit. Hitting 70 and beating Maat(which you've done^^) is a feat in itself. We'll see who the loser is when they can't defeat Maat since no one is holding their hand.

Well, i guess Im glad that Im not the only one getting hit with 3 to 5 of these types of players each day. But at the same time, I'm saddened by the fact that people seem to, more and more, NEED to hide behind /anon because of this.

I pity you poor poor WHMs. ><

The thing I wonder about these greedy selfish low levels with such high expectations of how high-er levels should act, is how the hell are they going to act when they reach higher spots? I'm only level 43 but I always get tells (as I've mentioned in other posts, and sometimes from people MY level asking for help that they shouldn't be asking for (like to get a yag necklace)), and if I'm not busy I will help.

I'm very open to helping people with stuff if I have the time. I would have a confession to make. After spending a week in real life trying to hunt for a ghoul in the dunes for my magicked skull, people were telling me to go to Gusgen mines and ask a high level for help. So I gave in....and I did find a nice person to help me. Whenever I asked someone and they couldn't do it though, I would politely thank them for even responding. So I always try to be polite. The high level helped me and didn't want a thing! All he said was "Pay it forward." So I do help out people whenever I can and whenever they offer (this is key, because it shows you they're willing to show their gratitude for your help rather than disbanding and running), I just smile and decline and tell them to help out other people when they're high level.

Now that's not to say always rely on high levels because I generally try to do my own quests on my own (Warp 2 set my white mage back five deaths wandering around the Glacier and Fei'yin on my own and with no map). I promote doing it by yourself first.

Finish off with this last story. This level 25 blm was trying to get his last key in Giddeus. He was camping the Yagudo Votary by the entrance to the burning circle.....for THREE DAYS. He asked somebody and they told him that's where he should be and only Yag Votaries dropped the keys.... I laughed my head off...and I felt so bad for the guy I helped him get his key.

how the hell are they going to act when they reach higher spots

The thing is, most these ppl will never make it. They won't last long enough to get to lvl 50 or 60.

You guys have to remember that 9/10 of these rude ppl that cuss in /tells and say all of those nasty things, are 12 to 17 year olds. There is no other explanation for it. And as soon as the next hot PS2 game comes out, Mommy will go buy it for them. The last thing that Mommy wants is for them to be bothering HER!
Seriously guys, this is society today. Sad, but true.

I am a new player (pc), and feel that these new players are screwing it up for me. I don't have the time to play that most have, and struggle to make friends in game. Currently I have two Phraust, and Faedryth(who quit!) and feel like I bug the sh*t out of them. I constantly do my "homework" by researching how to be a better player, and want to be excellent at my job (THF). Trouble is, when I hit a stumbling block, I have no one to turn to.

So what do I do?? I would never ask a random high lvl to come help me with a quest. I would fully expect that you all have better things to do. I ALWAYS pay for my teleports. Infact, I often offer to pay for raises, in addition to the constant /bow, and thanks. I truly believe in game karma, and when I get a drop that I don't want (scrolls and such) I look for a low lvl to give them to.

/sigh I fell that these new brats are creating a steriotype that hurts all of the new players.

Oddly, it's not the very new and low lv ppl that I often get bothered by. And by "bothered" I refer to the definition of: un-initated, rude, random, requests for help. Always I get these /tells as i'm fishing in Jueno, un-anon, with seek up, lfg.
Most of these follow the line of a "hey" or a "sup".
I respond, in translator "Hello"
"will you come get genkai, will you come kill, can you plse come do this quest, etc"
Of them all, only one really troubles me, the Genkai 1 ones.
Now I understand that this crop of people has us to turn to for help, and we can (sometimes unfortunately) actually read what they say.
However, as i recall, by the time I had leveld enough to Need the Genkai items for the 1st cap, I had already established Some friendships through my LS, and I knew others that I had at least grouped with multiple times as we moved up the ranks.
So, when it came time to get thise items for myself, "GASP", I actually had to form allys with people in my level and Earn them.
I don't recall bothering every non-anon JPN in rulude gardens asking for just one or 2 to come hold my hand and walk me through it.
Maybe some of those in my range at the time did. Maybe they were able to get that type of help, or perhaps not due to the language barriar.
I really think, forming those allies helped me not only learn to play better, but helped make this game more fun in the most important way, by strengthing the relationships with people I tend to group with.
Where are the LS, where are the battle comrades for this Crop??!
I'd like to know.
Since its not 50 ppl a day asking, i'm going to take a guess that its either:
A. people that dont play much, and can't afford the time to invest in such relationships.
B. The lazy or already "tilk" like people of this group. (I lean to this one, but then again, i'm a bit of a cynic)
either way though, all the multitude's of requests for all sorts of help, usually from someone on the otherside of the "world" no less, has got me hiding under anon almost all the time now. I'd LFG anon if I thought I could get away with it. ><
and i'm not even a mage. just a glass cannon. /sigh

I remember you, we spent lots of time in a genkai paper group and I distinctly remember you being rather irritated that someone that was like level 49 got the paper before you, but that's in the past. So w/e Anyway, I agree that most of the newbs are helpless and I really wish that people would stop helping them out so they get to high levels ><

actually, that person was a friend from a former ls. and he was 42 at the time not 49. and he later threw it away. but thats all beside the point for this discussion.

Haha, got a good laugh out of that one! Thanks. ;)
And yes, really double posting is 100% user error, no patience these kids. /sigh

n00b: Raise my pt member plz
Me: Sorry, I don't have that spell
n00b: But ur lvl 25
Me: Yeah, a lvl 25 BLM, raise is a level 25 WHM spell.
n00b: fu i know that
Me: So why did you ask me to raise you?
n00b: fu
/blist add n00b

Did this guy misread BLM as WHM or is he just a total idiot?

i remeber when i was getting my sub job items, the skull in the mines, i was in a pt (all around my lvl) it was slow but we were doing when i got a tell from a Thslayer, one of the ppl in his ls was in my pt and he had a skull he wanted me to have, to get to the point random acts of kindness then seam like they are demanded by ppl who are further along in the game. i was mineing in gus. mines when a guy sends a tell, ur not doing anything get me my skull so i can play>< wtf was that.... i ws on anon and this dude assums im stong enogh and am not buesy. I nicely decline to help and he shouts Dragoth is a F&@#ing ass. ok some peoples childrin i guss. ok i'm done ranting sorry all but i feel better^^.
Any way at lvl 40 with several lvl 30 jobs i feel i am still a noob, i realize and respect the time you ppl who are at lvl 70 have put into this game. Listing to higher lvl ppl talk about the stuff they have done is a great educational experance. Kahlaan know a lot of things and (even though i might regret saying this) has helped me a lot in what i hope is making me a better player. And the link shell im in, DragonAsh>< man do they know a lot about this game,i have so many things i wanna ask em but i don't wanna annoy the hell out of em and when i ask a question about something to the ls of a person i try to always thank them for thier service after all i am waisting your time. well im shut up for now, see y'all in the game

Dragoth rank 5
40drg 35whm 30sam 30mnk 18war 14smn...and others

God... that's some funny stuff. Kind of like how I saw 2 people who're flamed here on a normal basis... Both of them were talking shit about me in a pathetic attempt to make me mad. Didn't work though. =)

As to answer your question, the answer is a resounding:

"Both!!"

Someone help me get rank 4!! heh kidding don't kill me.
Anyways I admit I am a new player (less than 2 months on) on ps2 AND i'm 17. Bad combo huh? I get random tells a lot from people wanting powerlevels and get yelled at and cussed at for saying i'm busy. I don't think I have ever done this. I do send random tells at times for teleports but if the person doesn't respond or says no I just say thanks and move along. I try to be as nice as I can. I will powerlevel some people at times when i'm not busy but I really don't like doin it for people I don't know. Bad experience once. I have luckily made friends with some high level people, as well as the great LS i'm in :) that are willing to help me with things if needed. I try to do quests and things on my own before asking for help though. After I die twice I kinda get the hint. :) I really don't like asking for the help because I know it gets annoying. Anyways i'm one of the nicer 17 year old ps2 newbs. Just wanted to make my first post on here.

Welcome Aubrie, and thanks for the nice post.

Try not to take offense to the derogitory comments about young PS2 players, you are obviously an exception to the norm.
