meh, I never took a close look at him in the game, but I admit defeat XD
To be honest I didn't notice that it wasn't just wings until my second time through the game, that series of cut scense were probably the best in the game too =D

Either way, doesn't mean they can't change him :P
Very true, though that doesn't sound like something they would normally do. If you ask me what that thing resembles is the depiction of a "judge" in FFXII and FFT. I can't think off the top of my head what those could be used for in FFXI though.

*thinks more* That colosseum feature was mentioned, maybe a judge for that?

I highly doubt it's any form of "judge", because first off, it's huge. It also seems to be speaking out to the "lesser"-beings of Vana'diel. It would be pretty lame to have something so good looking at the end of a trailer with no music being a judge for a Monster v. Monster situation. As for looking at the FFXI art on the link posted, he looks like a combination of Alexander and Odin (Both on the same slide - #3).

though I agree that it's unlikely they would add judges, i disagree that he looks like a combo of the two avatars O.o

It's really hard to tell by the picture, since it's a bird-eye view. I'm accually leaning towards the Alexander side since the art looks like he has some form of horns, as well as a silver armor, while Odin has bigger, more split horns which means he has 2 horns, and they split into 2 more, while Alexander has 1 horn on each side. Also, Odins art seems to be showing some arm skin, you base your judgement though on that.

So I'm just going to throw my judgement out towards Alexander, but when Alexander comes, I'm sure Odin will make an appearance for sure.

It looks much more like Odin then Alexander to me.

Are you talking about the link/image posted by livos? Where is the slide #3 you're talking about?

Check this out: http://www.ffxionline.com/forums/ramuh/52699-look.possible.future.events.vanadiel.html#post532608

It should work, and if you scroll to the top, where Kamodake posted, check the 3rd picture and around the left-center, you'll see a dark and a light figure, one who looks like Odin, and another who's more light, who resembles the figure in the new trailer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in FF9 wasn't Alexander a giant dragon? Garnet (Dagger) even called him the mythological dragon (at least I thought she did) However, when she and Eiko summoned him inadvertantly, the only thing you saw were his wings enveloping the castle and protecting Garnet and Eiko as Bahamnut was destroying Alexandria's castle (which I guess may have been named after the avatar as well) >.>

I'm pretty sure he's a wyrm, not a castle but I've been known to be wrong before XD

Edit: Kari has that map of Vana'Diel too, she got it last year at the FF concert in chicago =)

I have that exact same map in front of me, and the figure who is more light based on the horse(or w/e it is), does not have horns, that's a ponytail trailing from his head. I'd say the ToAU video they showed showcased Odin, not Alexander.

Alright, I think I need my eyes checked, it took me a while to pick out the white figure, it looked like a muted leviathan at first O.o ANYWAY:

The light figure (man on white horse with balck armor): This figure still redminds me of odin, especially from ffxiii. He had a white hours with six legs, and large curvy sword and very dark armor. I can't say I remember if he had a blue cape, but SE may have altered his appearances a bit (he's changed looks throughout the series, though has had the same "style").

Dark Figure (Large disfigured behemoth-thing): This...must be me missing something. Either that or it really looks like a quas-behemoth with a light halo. Could be another avatar as long as we're on that topic, but I don't see anything that screams alexander in that picture ; ;

Am I missing something?

I really think on the map, they're both Odin, Amano's early Odin, the 1 on the white horse,
FF6odin.jpg

More light based, no horns, least I don't see any.

Now the FFIX Amano Odin, and possibly future FF's

Sure it might be early art, but I'm still in the mix around it. Who would the darker, horned figure be? The lower, smaller image "seems" like Alexander (and the picture you posted), but the Upper one is too dark for Alexander. You tell me.

Edit: Well, they might both be Odin, but still, it wouldn't make sense to throw them both on there. Either way, we'll have to see.

Mayhaps part of the ToAU story focuses on Odin, maybe he goes on a search for "redemption" between his light/dark based selves. And I still dont think the light figure is Alexander, Alexander has never been depicted as a figure on a horse, he's always been a castle type figure. They wouldn't change that staple of summons in FF, all the summons in XI at least look somewhat like their Past FF counterparts.
As for both Odins on map, well Amana pretty much did w/e the hell he wanted with it, we can even see Ixion on it, and idk about him ever being in XI.

Some have significantly changed, like Garuda who wasn't ever a summon but still the figure completely changed. Sure the whole "light/dark" thing may be true, but the fact that Alexander AND Odin alike are both the remaining Celestial Avatars, I doubt they'd tell Alexander to go take a hike and let Odin steal the show. Most likely a conflict will erupt between the two if they're both in it, but again, just because pasts FF have depicted something as this and that, doesn't mean this one can change the course of it, for better or for worse, it won't matter.

Again, I'm not saying you're wrong, because you have a good arguement, so I'll go along with you for a bit, but I still have my mind set on the whole Alexander thing. I'd like to go into furthur discussion though.

And to the comparing pictures, I'd have to say the top "darker" figure in the FFXI art definatly looks more like the Odin in the picture above the FFXI trailer one.

And SE threw some of Siren into Garuda, and Siren was a past FF summon.
Who knows though, mebbe in Vana'diel Mythology, Odin and Alexander are clansmen in ToAU history, and as the ages go by they grow to hate each other, thus having a battle where you assist Odin to defeat Alexander, or Alexander to defeat Odin, would be fairly cool.

Yeah, regardless of whom that is and who is right, it'll be soon enough before we find out what they serve as and perhaps like you said, a battle will take place wherein you assist one of them, but it's still something to look forward to.

Actually, I think I got it, ok, so the figure in blue cape on the white horse was concept art for FFVI, in that game, you got Odin first, who could be the dark based, and you transformed him into Raiden, who could be more light based, which would explain why there are 2 on that map. Maybe Odin and Raiden are heavily involved with ToAU storyline, and you go from seeing him as "Odin" as an evil figure in Aht Urhgan, to the virtuous Raiden, maybe after you kick his ass in a mission.
Odin's special attack in VI was also Atom Edge, and Raidens was True Edge, which could explain him as being "holy" based, virtuous, w/e.
