POL: Current Known Issues (August 29th & August 30th)

Souj, I agree with you on a lot of that. I do want to see SE carry through on their intent, which was to make it a comparable playing field for two-handed weapon wielders. It definitely isn't a desirable thing to minimize the work that people have put into gear, merits, etc.

While I'm thrilled that the first step has at least been taken to make positive changes, I absolutely agree that they need to tweak it some. My problem is and has been only with the people who are bitching about any change at all to the current, rigid, nin war mnk only game. Very few things are perfect in their initial form. Let's just hope SE actually makes it competitive across the melee jobs.

Get used to the idea of your 2-handed weapon having more Attack/Accuracy than your dual wield setup. I really doubt that's going to change at all when SE fixes the peak WS damage.

I find it ironic that the people I see complaining about this the most are WAR/NIN. (not pointing fingers at anyone, just a general observation) I realize that having a gear setup you've put a lot of time, effort, and gil into get functionally nerfed can be extremely frustrating, but considering that WAR at least has the capacity to once again slip into a primary position with Great Axe instead of Axe/Axe, it's just a trifle surprising to me. I would have expected more NINs and MNKs than WARs to be upset.

I find it funny that you say WAR/NINs are the one complaining and yet, it's one of the only jobs that's been able to ride both sides of it. I can switch between dual axes and great axe very easily with or without merits due to our vast supply of gear and job abilities. And more or less, it's not complaining but reasoning. I've been wanting something like this for a long time. The cookie cutter crap got old, but it was also the best way to make merits/exp so many people just went with the flow. At the same time, it wasn't impossible to get decent experience outside of cannons, just most idiots didn't think to try. However, once I saw that jobs can put out huge numbers which more than just rival the old standard without so much as an effort into the job, it makes me wonder if SE is just turning the easy button on and fucking with the game more than it cares to fix it.

It being funny and odd is why it's ironic.

I think everyone is willing to agree, and SE admits, that they screwed up the damage calculations on 2-handed weaponskills.

What I'm saying, however, is that if you think SE is going to roll back the DEX/STR = ACC/ATTK change, you're most likely going to be sorely mistaken. The numbers you see now from SAM/WAR will probably still be the numbers you'll see from SAM/THF, just less often.

No one on this board has ever complained or even constructively said that is a bad thing. The ONLY gripes are instead of making it feasible to equalize damage between DD jobs, the pendulum is overly swinging in the other direction, to more of an extent than before. Like I mentioned earlier, anyone who has leveled DRG knew from very early on that they weren't going to be the top DD. But if you expect me to be quiet and watch all my hardwork go from #1 on the food chain to a 7% loss, then that's a different problem entirely. As I mentioned in my parse thread, if I had gotten beat by 1-2%, that's all fine and dandy like sour candy. But 7% is a distinct advantage, and Phraust had 0 GK merits, albeit a sick gear set.

The reason I am still befuddled even though I could switch from Axe to GA is I'm getting tired of dropping and remeriting. GA is 4/8, but I'll have to either drop axe or sword to cap it. Currently because of ridill, zerk/aggressor are 5/5, DA is 0/5...if I want to maximize damage on GA, with the accuracy advantage in this update I'd go 5/5 DA and 5/5 Zerk.

This update also negated a WAR only JA for anyone using two-handed weapons, as Aggressor for two-handers isn't needed by any means in most circumstances. Thus, /war is almost as good as having a WAR main, aggressor was the noticeable difference before.

I can't deny that there have always been stuck up dbags who are like this and refused to give any other jobs a chance in meripo. I'm sure there are alot of people like me however that could be mistakenly lumped into that group.

Before and after the update I would rather get my merits in a cannon party. The difference is that what I consider a cannon isn't limited to mnk/nin/war. It's based on whether or not the DD in question 1) put out comparable damage to the other DD and 2) can do so while sharing hate without being a hinderance to the party by being a MP sink. Then and now, that can only be done by having Utsusemi. Based on that, yes, most of the cannon parties I was in did happen to be nin/war/mnk. The reason for that is simple. The vast majority of your sam/drk/drg out there would act like they were a virgin being asked if they were into watersports if you asked them to /nin, total shock, horror, and disgust. After getting the same reaction time after time I just came to the point where if I was making a merit pt. and you weren't wearing /nin while you were seeking then I wouldn't bother asking, even if it clearly stated in /seacom that that SJ was an option. It would be no different if I saw a mnk/war seeking. I don't care if he was pimped out, BB and all, not going to bother. Same with war/anything other than nin. I could care less if they had Ebody or Bravura. It wouldn't work.

Like I said in my last post I've merited a ton with a sam/nin. Why? Because it worked well with cannon dynamics. If he could outparse BB mnk's without Amanomurakumo, sash, Byakko's, and J-torque then I'm inclined to say it wasn't as broken as everyone would have you believe. If it wasn't possible due to game mechanics of dual wield vs. 2handed then I wouldn't have seen it first hand on countless occasions. That and the other individuals that I mentioned before, as well as alot of others over the years, that magically overcame the perceived so called inherent "gimpness" of using 2handed weapons led me to believe that the problem wasn't so much of a game mechanic problem as it was a player problem. If it couldn't be done then it wouldn't have been, it really is that simple.

On a different note, looking at Jamal's parse results and the responses people left it seems that most have come to the conclusion that they no longer need to worry about damage mitigation in merits. Go sam/war and rely on Seigan. Pay no attention that the sam/war took 4 times the damage the ridillberk war did, he beat him on damage dealt right? It's not like the 31k+ he took during the course of the party would cause any downtime and broken chains, right? "Seigan, the new utsusemi" as someone said lol. I guess drk/war can rely on the other utsusemi, Dreak Spikes, too now. Makes me wonder why mnks bothered to switch to subbing nin for the past couple of years. They should've used the same logic and stuck with mnk/war and taken their chances with Counterstance up full time. Everyone's going to have to be like the true elite on BG now. Level up another character on rdm or whm and dual box them cure bombing you from outside party. It's bad enough people had to be PL'd through most of the way to 75, when you need one for merits it's pretty sad.
