Ok, ive been feeling very relaxed and enlightened lately, and i wanted to kind of bring this thread back on topic. I must first say that im starting to like vang, hes a great source of entertainment, and personally im contemplating awarding him with the late great Kiets' cross with which to display himself. But seriously, i agree with decidence on his asessment of vang, in that vang is in all likelihood a skilled player, and if he could just get the attitude together potentially a great one. Now:
I agree with vangs premise, please stop being gimp. i dont demand peacock charm, i dont expect E-bow, but i sure as hell dont expect a lvl 2 war sub and a boomerang. ty. One thing vang neglected to cover, that i shall, is i expect at least Marginal comprehension of battle mechanics and pt dynamic therein. Meaning: skillchains. tp call macros. dont voke for no reason. You know what i mean. Samurais refuse to skillchain, noone calls tp, dark knights use souleater and last resort then voke. I think all of you are chinese. i have great difficulty comprehending these things, im not the best player by far, but i am a highly experienced one, and i know what to do and indeed i do it, at the right times. Its not like building a space shuttle, there are Not over 1 million working parts in a pt, there are 6. And of those 6 working parts, most mellees are required to interact with at most 2 thereof at any given time, in simple and routine procedures that by at least lvl 40 should be very familiar and almost 2nd nature. example:
skillchain piercing arrow >> tachi enpi, distortion with a blizzaga burst, simple enough. ranger calls tp. sam does nothing. rng calls tp. sam carries on doing nothing. samurai meditates so rng thinks "ah-ha! hes ready now!", waits 3 secs, lets piercing rip. samurai carries on doing nothing again then when mob (and ranger) are nearly dead the samurai lets fly with a tachi enpi for no apparent reason. Youve all seen this, and its not isolated incidents. anyway, cant really help it, you explain, you cajole, they seem to understand, or claim they do, and they then carry on once again doing nothing that makes any sort of sense. A whm in my ls asked me the other day why i accept pt invites like that. Why? im a monk. I dont get pt invites. once every 2 days maybe, if its down to me and a drg. maybe. Ironic, since at lvl 44 i outdamage every other melle job, and pre-sidewinder, i even (per hit when 2 fists are counted together) and on ws outdamage the much vaunted rngs. the non-gimp kind. at 55 sure theyll blow past me, but as it stands it makes me want to gouge out my eyeballs. anyway, that was all a ramble, on to the point.
Vang, listen bud, it IS tough seeing gimps ruin your jobs rep, but really what it does is make you look better by comparison. Rng is a job that demands commitment and dedication, not just for the millions in gil you SHOOT into the air over the course of your career, but to put up with people who make it harder for you, gimps who piss you off, people on alla who say "omfg you fail@rng cuz you arent a mithra" and so on. Of all the jobs in the game, rng and mnk are the 2 that take the most sack to get to 75, for different reasons. And vang, of all the things i suspected or opined about you, being short of sack was not one of them. So you gave up ranger? Aint got the balls for it then? because there is no other excuse, you have the money, apparently you just dont have the love.
On a constructive note, getting back to what i was saying about your potential. I'm very serious about this, you need to stop a second and look at this thread and the people who posted in response to it. Ask some of the na's whove been at 75 for awhile who They would go to if they had ranger questions, or needed ranger advice. Their answers would be Synical, Reality, Alteredstate, maybe Dalva, and possibly Decidence as well. Now in this thread, 2 of the people on that list have responded, one to point out the ridiculousness of Your top rng picks and the other to suggest your attitude needs time off in a tibetan monastery or something, and i happen to agree with them both. I'll put it like this, because these are seriously people you should respect or at least listen to. If i were to post a vicious diatribe (as i do sometimes) about all things monkish, and then Xion and Groo were to post in response telling me i was off base, i would most certainly be inclined to listen and would then look them up in game for some serious conversation. Or if Jsoft or Bjbreeze were to tell me my thf gear needed an overhaul. Or jazper said i needed work on my paladin. Basically vang, and this may be offensive and defeat my purpose here, but its the only way i can think of to put it: You are marky mark, and They are Eric Clapton, and you guys are having a discussion about how to play the blues. So for your own improvement id recommend you pay attention. Theyve been there, seen that, got the t-shirt and not only earned their stripes, but tinkered with those stripes for hours on end trying to find the best way to get those stripes to help them break 4k damage on an orc in davoi.
Everyone please forgive the length of my post, but everyone seems to (understandably) just flame vang, but i really believe that there Could potentially be a great player buried under there. Vang, think about this:
there arent many 75 rangers these days. there arent many Good rangers these days. A 75 ranger is a wonderful thing, in high demand and generally held in high regard by all concerned. There arent enough, and there arent enough that are Good. Not xp pt Competent good, i mean Good as in "trust that guy to the death in a 5 weapon link in romaeve, get chain 6 without breaking a sweat" good. thought about that? heres where it relates to you. to be there, to be that, you need 3 things, and 3 things only. Skills. Attitude. Sack.
Youve got the skills, now get the attitude right and sack it up. Youre not a quitter are you?
