http://www.drugpolicy.org/global/drugpolicyby/westerneurop/germany/ Germany, again, illegal, personal use is often overlooked. Trafficking and cultivating are seen as serious offenses.

These two along with Italy should make it apparent that that map isn't as correct as people think.

Well, that map was lifted directly from wikipedia, you're definitely open to make changes as you see fit.

That's fine, I understand. Sorry for the rant.

Mistra-

It was a good topic. Needed to be said.

Bravo.

Just think, you could have saved some dumb knucklehead from the life of a methhead here. Lord knows we have enough of them already.

I have friends in the ground or lost already because of meth. Mostly because they were to dumb to know what they were doing before they did it and got hooked.

Spread the word, say what needs to be said, don't leave them to find out on thier own.

QCDN is an excellent place to come if your after game knowledge and advice. Do I want it be be an information forum on drugs for my child? - definitely not.

Given she is only eight it's currently a non-issue, however if I knew QCDN contained posts that promoted drug use then I would ban her from using this site were she to play FFXI when she is older. Not all parents are pc literate and it's possible they would assume a game website would be just that.

I feel sorry for the Mods, doing nothing could be seen as tacitly condoning what could be seen as the promotion of drug use, which we all know can have the capacity to kill either directly or indirectly. On the other hand doing something means all the whiners of free speech will hate them and call them Sculli ^^

Someone suggested those threads could be moved to reality bites - which up to a point can still be labeled as censoring but it's possibly better than doing nothing at all.

Couldn't have said it better than Meeze, myself. It's too much. Yes, the shit is illegal. A vast majority of people are very impressionable; make something a fashion statement, and suddenly people want to do it. Exactly that, it's one thing to do it personally in your own time, but to publicise it is over-extreme. I can see and respect your stance on it, but this is mine, and I know others share it. Publicly advocating drug use, because yes, it's fucking illegal, is too much. There are younger people, again, that read these boards. Impressionable, immature, people, that may read something, unnanounced, and decide that it's a cool thing to try, because someone else said so. More than that however, it's overly tacky. You bring smoking, alcohol, MMO's, and whatever else into the list, and it's unnecessary. They are harmful when abused, yeah, but they are legal, socially allowed and accepted. People smoke all the time, and it's socially accepted. The alcohol though... yeah, it's a bit much to post these wild, crazy parties all over. It's more acceptable though simply because it's legal to an older audience. I'm not saying it's right, I'm saying it's taken much lighter than drugs. The shit can get you in trouble, and to over glamorize something to someone younger can land them in trouble. While I don't intend to say people are quite that stupid, you never fucking know. It's over the top, and should stop.

I am sorry, but if you are worried about what young people see on a website, maybee you should watch your language, and let the parents of these younger people do there job. To think that these children will not hear it at school, or at partys, or you know, Real life, well that is just freaking silly.
Just my opinion, but the fact is, i seriously doubt that you can go thru life and not hear/see/do it, are you going to find a way to edit drugs out of every childs life? If so great, but untill then.....

Reading about drugs is not the issue. Its the passive aggressive nature of peer pressure to seem 'cool' by using, and glorifying, drugs to a potential audience quite susceptible to that kinda crap. Think about the targetted age group of this MMO. Now, when was the first time many of you, that have used drugs, started?

You're right though, drugs can't be edited out of daily life, so its up to people to use their good sense in moderating a forum -- or extending that to real life, discussion of drugs and various paraphernalia. I'm not asking for an 'abstinence only' approach. However, this is not the place kids should be learning about drugs. If they are interested, they can find it somewhere else -- and I hope its from someone they can trust. I don't know about you, but I don't trust people on the internet.

Use of language is something very common and socially used, even in schools. To try and argue such, that language carries common footing on the argument that soliciting drug use as "Cool" or "Awesome" is just as conventionally bad, is probably the most loose-mouthed thing I've ever read. If you like arguing that much, fine, but take it elsewhere. This was a productive discussion with people that agreed, and disagreed on the topic, and if you don't have more to add, then don't.

Pot isn't a drug. If people start posting about smoking crystal meth, sure, delete those posts. But pot? Jesus. Alcohol is worse for you than pot is!

QCDN got me hooked on pot :(
Most people who play this game and view this forum should have enough common sense to know what's legal and illegal, and be able to make their own decisions about whatever product is being discussed. I honestly don't mind seeing all our local druggies post about their latest happenings under the influence. Sure, this is a gaming forum, but we do have an OFF TOPIC SECTION. If you're gonna use the argument that drugs don't belong on a gaming forum, perhaps we should just axe The Lounge and Reality Sinks In? I don't wanna see posts about horrible customers on a GAMING FORUM.

I don't know about you, and I, of course, cannot judge your ability as a parent. However, if I were to allow my child(maybe D:) unrestricted and unsupervised access to the internet, I would first have them show me that they are mature enough to make good decisions about whatever they come across, so that I wouldn't have to worry about them browsing a forum consisting of a few druggies.

I didn't use any argument at all. I was pointing out that it's possible that some parents who are not pc literate may make assumptions that a gaming forum site would not contain posts relating to drug usage.

In terms of my parenting abilities, I have already suggested what my course of action would be. I am wondering though what benchmark you would set, enabling your child to demonstrate their level of maturity in relation to decision making "whatever they come across". Although this is probably not the correct forum area to pursue this.

Ignorance is no excuse. If you don't know anything about a computer, then don't have one in your home for your children to use. If you feel you must, then learn something about a computer. Television and computers are not babysitters, they are priveladges that your children should be rewarded with instead of food, which is what most parents use as a reward. Coincidentally, that is one of the reasons there are so many fat people in america. Parents keeptheir children doped up with sex, drugs and violence on the TV and Comp, while rewarding them with food that is bad for you.

Hmm... my rant seems to have gone off topic. I'll stop now.

You know... the whole argument that somehow a parent isn't a good parent because they aren't sitting there like a hawk every second their child is online is pretty insane. Let's not act like the internet isn't a huge, endless web of information that is impossible to patrol. The government can't do it, what makes you think that one individual or a couple of parents can? The point is, even a watchful or computer savvy parent would make a reasonable assumption that a forum/gaming community based on a game that is sellable to minors would be appropriate for that age group unless otherwise labeled.

I frankly don't think there is anything wrong with asking for threads of that nature to be kept to the non gaming sections of the forum and that they be labeled so that people not wanting to hear about it or see it don't have to. That's not to say some kid won't find it there, but at least they wouldn't stumble across it while browsing the gaming portion, and if it's labeled explicit then no one could say they weren't warned. People want to cry about porn posts/avatars because they're not work friendly then whine about people objecting to pro-drug threads, some of them complete with pictures? Come on now...

A very good chunk of QCDN is based around the Flameboard, where things are posted as bad as, if not worse than, drug related threads.
As for appropriate labels, I think they've done a pretty good job of that without intervention. I mean, do titles like "beat super mario brothers high!" and "groovy new drug" really leave much to the imagination?

Yeah they do. Beat super mario bros high could be talking about a score for all anyone knows. And groovy new drug could be the next cialis or viagara that gave someone their first boner after years, which I equally wouldn't want to know about.

Yeah, but take a gander at the OPs...

In my opinion it is something required to be a good parent. I don't have time to do that shit, therefor I don't have kids. This is one of the things people should take into consideration when deciding to have kids. Then, sometimes, it just happens, bam, yer pregnant before you are ready. That is what abortion is for. Don't want an abortion? Don't fuck. In my opinion, to disagree with that is to want to have your cake and eat it too.

Well, you would say drugs, then there is the atheist that doesn't want their kids to see anything about religion, then the ones that don't want political issues at all, and so on and so forth. Censorship is censorship. QCDN decided long ago that censorship was unacceptable.

Posting NSFW pics in a thread that says NSFW on it is much different than having an avatar with titties hangin out that could just randomly show up in any thread.

I'm not a parent and I say that's bullshit. You're asking something that's impossible to justify posting things regarding substances that are illegal in many places across the world (including the places most people who frequent these forums are from). You're kidding yourself to think that way, but that's your opinion and your business.

And don't give me the censorship garbage. Everyone seems to think free speech comes with no responsibility. I disagree. As I said, talk about whatever the hell you want. But label it. That isn't censorship, that's responsibility. I said label it clearly so people can opt not to go there. That isn't asking too much. And we are not talking about religion, which is legal. We are talking about drug use which, again, for the majority of the users of this board is illegal whether you like that fact or not.
