I really dont understand, wouldnt it make more sense to say:

"The Sony PS3 Video-game system! Also plays Blu-Ray discs!"

I dunno, its just weird to me lol.

That isn't a joke picture? It's almost too good to be real ... more likely, it's a calculated jab at Sony's arrogant insistence that its Blu-Ray format be shoved down the collective throats of their Playstation market.

Most people just wanted Final Fantasy XIII and Grand Theft Auto 7, but they'll get the Blu-Ray (and the extra couple hundred dollars it adds to the console) whether they were planning on it or not. This has got to be a spoof advertisment that's making fun of Sony's attempts to dominate two media formats at once ... at least, that combined with the fact that the Blu-Ray player is probably the last, recent refuge of fanboys explaining why a PS3 purchase is "worth it" right now.

No store would be so naive as to miss the "point" of a PS3. At least, no store in a country that could afford to stock them, managed by someone younger than eighty.

LOL. I like how there are reports that the 360 outsold the PS3 in europe on the PS3 launch weekend. If thats not owned, i dont know what is.

That is a marketing ploy, and you have to put it in context, maybe thats a store dedicated to Hi-definition Audio and Videoinstead of a gaming store, and are selling the PS3 as a Blue-Ray player.

maybe... But in all honesty, I know next to no one that wants a blu ray player in itself. I can say that everyone has bought the PS3 for only its gaming capabilities, with little to no problems from other people. The Blu Ray is an 'extra' that people would rather be without.

One of the only reasons Sony does incorporate Blu Ray into PS3 is so that people are forced to get the blu ray player :/ Blu Ray players wont sell well on their own.

The PS3 sold more units at launch. All people are focusing on is that they didnt sell out. They had a million colsoles for the Europe launch, and they sold more at launch than 360 did in its first 3 months in Europe.

There are plenty of people that will end up with the PS3 as their Blu Ray player. The fact that you're probably 18 shows as to why you don't know anyone who does that.

I have lots of friends who use their ps2/360s as DVD players and barely game at all.

The blu-ray players are still more than the PS3, so advertising it as a blu-ray player will probably boost their sales. Parents in families looking for a blu-ray may also see it as way to kill two birds with one stone. As we know, most parents don't know the difference between 360 and genesis.

But that isnt what Im saying. The thing is, most people will be buying the PS3 for its gaming capabilities, not its Blu ray. People are still in the HDVD phase. I can bet that if PS3 was HDVD instead of Blu Ray, not only would the units be more accessible and cheaper to make, but they would also receive a lot more attention. That is common knowledge. Blu Rays expense is the reason PS3 sales are slow and hurting

Blu-ray feels like it's about 18 months ahead of its time to be integrated into a gaming console. This makes it a disadvantage now that the price is being driven up but a nice advantage a year from now when DVD starts get obsolete and blu-ray drives become cheap to make.

Blu-ray DVD players were 1k before PS3 ever came out. HDVD isn't sony's brand. HDVD is dying, it's curtains for them. They don't have a strong lineup, and most of the new major hits are coming Blu-ray.

I personally know 3 people with HDVD and over 15 with Blu ray. The same 3 with HDvD have Blu ray as well.

I don't know where you are getting "HDVD phase" from, but there isn't a phase going on. Blu-ray, before PS3 launch, was near impossible to find in stores, where the HDVD sets were nicely stacked on sales floors.

Like Firestreak mentioned, HDVD does have a good year or two left. Sony has been known to release things more advanced than what people are ready for. HDVD most definitely isnt dead, but its definitely not time for Blu Ray to be dominant. I mean no offense, but your friends, especially when youre a gamer/techie yourself (which most likely means your friends will have the same qualities) do not qualify for everyone, everywhere. I know you arent saying that, but the general public agree's that Blu Ray is overrated, and not needed yet. A google search or two will bring you to a couple pages where different people from different places will state their opinions on it.

Also, to counter the "most hits in Blu Ray" thing, Sony produces most of those hits. Yeah other companies do produce Blu Ray movies, but Sony produces the vast majority, which doesnt justify the entire movie industry

Firestreak didn't say HDVD had a year or two left, he said the integration of Blu-ray into video games is ahead of its time.

HDVD isn't cutting it, it isn't just my friends, just go down to your local best buy and compare the new releases in each format. Then taek a look at their library as a whole.

These are competing technologies, one isn't supposed to make room for the other. When that happens, the one that made room will be deemed a failure like laserdisc was. Sony/Samsung are pushing their format and getting deals done for them to come out on blu-ray, while HDVD isn't getting the big movies.

My techiness comes from managing a consumer electronics store for a while, my friends are all in the car business. They buy when they want because they make tons of money, and it usually isn't a factor. That is the type of person upgrading to 1080p DVD players. They want to watch the big movies which happen to be made by sony, or sony gets them to release their movies in their format.

HD-DVD never went anywhere. I'm not sure why you're thinking Blu-Ray is taking over from it. It never had anything to take.

HD-DVD as a movie format has no chance to survive long term due to its lack of studio support. The only people buying it are people with a Blu-ray player already who want both so they can get movies from Universal. Eventually Universal will go neutral, they have no choice considering Blu-ray has been outselling HD dvd 2 to 1(higher now I think) for months. Now that the PS3 launched in EU, consider Blu-ray dead in europe. It's already dead in Japan.. blu-ray has 94% of the market.

HD DVD was never supposed to win. HD DVD was out there to slow the changeover to high def format for 2 reasons:

1) Microsoft wants to move from DVD directly to digital downloads so they can monopolize it completely.
2) Microsoft wants to lower the percieved value of the blu-ray drive by creating a rival format to lower consumer's trust: thereby lowering the value of the PS3.

Once you realize that MS with all their connections and all their money only got ONE exclusive studio in line, didn't even integrate it with their next-gen system(and they won't even with their premium system coming out), you realize that HD DVD wasn't supposed to win. It's like a Xbox 360 if all the 1st and 2nd party MS games came out to PS3 too.

Except.. Microsoft had nothing to do with HD DVD. Nice try, though. You can put the tin-foil conspiracy cap away, Fire.

By the way, 51 GB HD-DVD. Triple layer isn't the really interesting part, but that they've increased a layers capacity by 2 GB.

First off... triple layer HD DVD is old news and unfortantely where HD DVD maxes out, while Blu-ray maxes out at 200 gig. You can push more out of all of them if you want but it gets retarded since the only thing HD DVD has is its cheaper to make than Blu-ray when it's single layer vs single layer.

Second off... Microsoft has nothing to do with HD DVD?

lol...........................................................................................

You fail at the internet good sir! I think that one's going on my sig for a little while!

Yeah, rather lol indeed.

Why is none of this HD format war anger being placed anywhere but at the feet of Sony? Why is Toshiba not villified as being money grubbing? Why is Philips not mentioned in any of these rants?

It's simple. MS went with HD-DVD because why in the world would they put a percentage of profit on every system and game sold into there competitor, Sony, pockets? You simply have several companies trying to become the next standard. If you concider one to be dirty then they are all dirty. It doesn't make Sony/Philips/Toshiba evil just capitalistic.

Um...Toshiba invented HD, not Microsoft. Sure Microsoft uses HD, but it's the only other High Def format besides Blu-ray. Toshiba also has their name on the Cell processor in PS3.

When I saw that CASINO ROYALE and Spider-Man 3 were somewhat like Blu-Ray "exclusives", the format-war was won right there already.
