When making a merit party there are always several complex variables to consider.

You'll need good DD's that aren't pussies and sub/NIN. They'll have to be smart enough to know when to use Seigan/Thirdeye and WS.

You have have to find a competent healer, yet not push them over the edge by healing too much/DD being MP sinks.

You need a buffer/two buffers to complement the DD's that aren't pussies.

And you need a puller [who may or may not be a buffer.]

Now comes the question... If you ask bards to party... sending this tell >>> Would you like to merit in a BRD/COR pt?

and they say >>> Nope

and you say >>> kk ty

and a few seconds later...

they say >>> if I wanted to seek, i would

Would you consider that rude?

Here's to Arlet. I asked 19 other bards besides you, almost all said "Oh I can't I'm busy," or "No ty" or just a simple "I'm playing solo right now." and I responded with "kk ty" or "Thank you." etc etc. Yes you are a fucking ++++. Here's to princess bards. I raise my glass to you, and pour it all over your face.

I dont think it is rude to ask.

No it's not rude to ask, some people are just like that though, if they don't want to be bothered then they can go /away (sorry if I got the terminology wrong on that, I know you can turn off receiving text, I just can't remember if it's called that lol).

I don't think it's rude to ask, but it does get annoying. Especially when I'm in the middle of thing in the middle of nowhere. i.e. (not exactly the same thing but the same concept): Once I was in the middle of Crawlers' Nest on BLM and someone asked me for a Retrace and they were in Ru'lude. Or when I was farming Sea organs on RDM/NIN and someone asked me if I wanted to merit. Or even when I was on BLM, in the middle of an event, in a party, and someone asked me if I wanted to Manaburn. But I always just said "No thanks" or don't even reply.

Now of course that's not the same thing as your situation, but even if I'm standing in the middle of Whitegate, it'd get annoying after a while.

But I do think it was a bit rude of Arlet to say that though.

/away would turn off /tells but maybe they want to still receive tells from friends.

True but really, does "no ty" take so long to say? Maybe he had gotten asked numerous times before and he was getting fed up. Lord knows it got REALLY annoying when I would be on my BRD, even times where I change from BLM to BRD and before I even have time to put my equipment on peopel are asking me to merit lol.

This made me lol.

I don't think it's rude to ask, or to give the answer you got.

Now, if they were like, "FU I'm not seeking dickhead! What don't you get, Jeez FUCKFACE!" Then yeah, totally uncalled for.

As much as it isn't rude to just ask a simple question, it's also not exactly rude to respond to someone that they chose not to take advantage of the game functionality to seek out a party.

Prissy? Perhaps. Maybe you just caught them at a bad time or they really aren't in the mood for random stuff, and don't want to filter all tells. Rude? Not really any more so than asking a non-seeker to party to begin with. Not seeking is not seeking after all, so they kind of have a point.

I don't think it was rude for you to ask, and I do believe it was a rude reply. Sure, it gets annoying. (Asking me to party when i'm /RDM already in a party in Quicksand Caves? CMON). But you never know if that person is on the edge going "Hmm, do i want to merit? I don't feel like waiting too long...".

Rape them with their own flute damnit! that would be a real rusty trombone harharhar!

Forgive me if I'm wrong.... but isn't that a mule of someone? I think Arlet was Diabllos' (think that's how he spelled it) mule that he leveled brd on? (again could be mistaken but I think that's who it is.)

Well... i guess i fall into the category of princess bard then...

Normally i can tell you exactly how merit party conversations go with me.

>> want to merit?

me >> was my flag up?

>> no...?

me >> figure it out

Here is how i feel about it... if your not a friend of the person your asking... if their flag is not up don't ask. Its not that it is necessarily rude... but it is incredibly annoying and you should not be surprised to get an angry response when u get a merit party invite during Odin (happened last month) or just in town when you don't want to be bothered.

/anon is too much to ask in those instances, isn't it?

Stine used to get loads of blind invites and requests for party (years ago) on her WHM when she was in a level static with friends and family, along with the random "RAISE PRZ OVER HERE <POS> VALKURM DUNES". It got annoying, so she was /anon nearly all the time.

Me as BLM? Not so much :D

K so yea it gets very annoying for us Brds when random /tells pour in about doing something, I guess that person just handles it differently. Then again I'm not stupid enough to just hang out on Brd as a job knowing that I get these kinds of /tells. Its called /anon on or hang out as some other job.

during an event /anon puts too much stress on the leader of the event because if everyone had to go /anon then they would have to ask to confirm what jobs everyone is on. Truthfully in my shell i ask everyone to take anon off because some people don't like to come on their most useful jobs and having their character information shown i can see what jobs they are on.

Its really simple... flag up... i would like a party!!!
flag down... i probably don't want a party, if you would like to ask go for it but realize i may not be happy about it.

I agree, /anon during an event is no bueno. However, that is where a /seacom comes in handy. If people still send invites after that, its not a horrible thing to let them know they're not the brightest crayon in the box.

If you're just standing around a city, not in a party, with no /seacom up... I don't see why you'd get all bent out of shape over an invite. Its not like there are 25,874,169,814 people seeking at any given time. As a party leader, its much better to ask people with no flag, no seacom than to wait for an hour and a half in the hopes that a healer/buffer will set their flag.

I went from Rank 5 to Rank 8 without ever having my flag up looking for help with the missions. They all came from invites when I least expected it. What would you rather have, an unexpected invite to something you may or may not need, or /tells from brosale?

Heads may explode at this one, but I agree with Dejavu. It's not a rude response. If their flag's not up, they're not seeking a party. You may certainly ask, but you can't be too buttsore if they're not eager to join your group.
