PS3 is hurting!

To explain a few things graphically...

1080 vs 480? Well the big advantage here is that let's say I'm playing a game in 1080p? Well if I'm looking forward, I'm going to see a lot farther then someone with 480. Things closer will be greater detail and that's nice for visuals, great for immersion, however greater depth vision is useful gameplay wise. It doesn't matter who has better eyesight, 480 blatantly doesn't display the further depths.

P vs I, since nobody really touched on that.

Interlaced is 30 frames per second.
Progressive is 60 frames per second.

You cannot do progressive in anything except PS3. This means all motions on a PS3 with HDMI are 2X smoother as oppose to on any other system where every other frame is skipped, including Xbox with HD DVD attachment for move watching.

Another thing, the whole idea that "anyone who buys a game system for movies is retarded," what a fucking stupid thing to say. Some people really are retarded themselves.

The PS3 has the same price range as Blu-Ray players and HD DVD players. If I was thinking of buying a high def player... for you know... high def content on a high def TV, I'd be dumb NOT to buy a PS3. What would be dumb would be buying a Xbox 360, a Wii and a Blu-Ray standalone player. Considering HD DVD is a fucking joke, I'm not going to invest 200 bucks into that doomed technology. If Microsoft wasn't so fucking arrogant to start a format war they can't win and they offered a Blu-Ray attachment I'd have considered a 360.

Sorry, I'm not missing out on watching Casino Royale on Blu Ray because Microsoft wants to pick a fight. Blu Ray companies own James Bond, Star Wars, Terminator... basically everything I love.

PS3 offers 60 frames per second... nobody else does.

Wii games are crappy and have a remote thrown in. Even you wii owners admit this, and you say, you have fun regardless cause of the remote. 9/10 games you think is fun and you admit the only reason they're fun to you is cause the remote.

Problem is I got sick of the remote a lot faster than you. I got sick of them when I was playing Wii baseball 10 minutes after I got the system setup, went to pitch, threw the ball... winded my hand back for another pitch, and the ball was thrown from the winding back motion.

I said to myself, "wow, what a piece of shit game!"

Then I put in Zelda, stared walking around with the control stick, then when I finally got to the part of the game that the motion controls work and found myself... amuzed by the fact that I had to swing overhand to swing left, hold down the Z button and swing overhand to poke forward... you know, basically, do random motions that weren't the right motions to control the character.

When that got the best rating for a Wii game, then people were telling me, "get trauma center omg!" I said, alright, let's give the wii another chance.

So I load in Trauma Center, after paying 50 dollars for it. I see the extremely poor graphics that looked like Super Nintendo. I said to myself, "ok well for 50 bucks with these graphics, it'll probably be a whole LOT of game."

Then 6 hours later I'd beat it.

I haven't turned on my Wii since. Except to show a few friends who were curious. They concluded their Xbox 360s were 100 times better. I'll probably turn it on to beat zelda at some point. I'm sure Zelda's a fine game, but the Wii controls don't add shit.

I'm not going to say that the controller is a gimmick, I'm only going to point out that the best game for the wii isn't going to use it. If innovation is everything why is Super Smash Bros going to use a gamecube controller?

But anyway... if we admit that the wii games are bad but the controller makes them fun to a lot of people, I only ask if you expect more eventually? If you think something better than the launch titles are coming out soon, I'd hate to burst your bubble but what's even got a release date that looks good?

Wii games are going to continue to stink and continue to be fun to many because of the controller and eventually you'll get sick of it and want to play some real games. Or maybe you'll get some friends and you can play bowling in real life or tennis in real life and see how shitty Wii sports is and get some exercise.

And by the way, what could show more bias... ever, than blasting Sixaxis as shitty and gimmicky and calling the Wiimote a triumph of modern science?

News flash, they're the same damn thing, PS3 games just don't use it as much.

Try flOw sometime, you control using only the sixaxis and not with buttons at all. Amazingly, they managed to make a PS3 game based on motion controls and charge like 5 bucks for it instead of 50. Makes me wonder how much money it cost them to make Trauma Center.

I bet if they made flOw for Wii, had you control the creature by waving the wand around instead of tilting your controller and charged 50 bucks for it, all you idiots would be saying, "wow this game is awesome!"

All that coming from a guy who couldn't figure out a simple puzzle and wouldn't even try to do the intended motions for Wii sports. It's a personal problem, since you apparently live in a microscopic dorm room(seriously, are you in a closet or something?), but if you were able to play the games correctly, you'd have more fun.

You're listing off 3 games, saying the other 30 have no substance without even trying them(there is substance there, you just don't care to look at them). Just sell your wii already, you entered in with a negative opinion but a "what the hell, everyone else seems to like it," attitude and went looking for things to complain about. I'd bet you'll make up shit you don't like about SBB when it comes out, so just don't even bother trying.

lolshutup

I'll add in this tid-bit of information. While you fight about consoles and waste your time convincing everyone else that your opinion... yes I said your god damn opinion... that you're console of choice is soooo much fucking better than their own, I'm enjoying the wii and x box 360 and having a generally good time. I'm not wasting my time rushing to the interbutt to post my opinion on why my console is so much better than yours.

Fact is fact. Wii has the wiimote and interactive ness of motion sensors and pointing cursors. IT also acts as an emulator for older generation games. Wii owns several game franchises that many people like.

PS3 has superb graphics. Yes that’s a fact. Don't argue hardware, because the limitations are set in stone. The PS3 can also double as a blu ray player. The PS3 also holds many game franchises that people like.

XBOX 360 has the largest library of games. It’s owned by the man who has a near monopoly on operating software allowing years of experience and tons of money to fall into the dashboard that runs on the XBOX 360.

Just log off and stop flaming consoles. It’s quite possibly the most annoying (yes, opinion, I know) internet fight that has every came out of the bunch of you.

Kororinpa, Super Paper Mario in the next month or so - for games without concrete release dates BWii, Cooking Mama looks like fun, Mario Galaxy, DQ Swords and I'm not going into the Godfather and Medal of Honor games that are coming out because I'm going to stay away from listing ports.

Hey, I can play flOw on my Wii, for free! Or I can pay $8 for an interactive screensaver for my PS3. If that's the kind of 'game' the SIXAXIS is able to control, well it sure is the same thing as the Wii's controls.

If you think Smash Brothers is going to be the best game for the Wii, then Ebay your system now for a profit, buy a Gamecube and Melee and rebuy it when Brawl comes out because I don't think this console is for you

Every system has its pros and cons. The Wii has a controller, that is the ONLY reason it is selling.

PS3 has blu-ray, ONLY reason that its selling.

360 has games awesome online. Downside?

360> PS3 Wii

I remember back in the day when i was a kid.. who wanted a system. If parents nowadays acted like some parents did in past, this is probably the scenario:

Kid: Mom, I want a PS3 for xmas, please please please.
Mom: Okay son (most likely), I'll see what I can do.

~Mom goes to store, talks to the electronics department guy. Mom sees the price of the PS3, electronics guy panicks and advertises the Wii and emphasizes the cheap price for a good next-gen system. Electronics guy rings up the register $.$~

*Xmas Day*

Mom: Merry Xmas Son
Kid: Mom, you got me a Wii?!? What happened to PS3
Mom: Too expensive...

~Kid whines and shouts but still plays the Wii.. enjoys it and doesn't remember much about wanting a PS3.~

=======================

That's how it was in my day. If you're relying on a parent to get you a system, I'd expect getting the cheaper one. To my mom and dad... they called any system i played 'nintendo.' It coulda been that i borrowed my friend's Sega Genesis, they still called it nintendo because that's all they know. They don't know the difference between PS2, DC, GC, XBOX... they're all just a video game system... as long as it plays games, that's all they need to know.

If you're buying a system yourself.. then that's a different story. Also, some of the games kids want are the Teen - Adult/Mature rated games. And you know the news talking about those 'bad' games and the rating system. Kids will miss those 'bad' games if parents are in control of buying their games. So I'd make the most of the situation and get a system where that wouldn't happen, but would still enjoy playing what I'm playing.

========================

Also.. I bet nothing 'serious' is gonna come out until Spring. For innovations and etc, why don't you just wait til E3 before making a commotion about what this system is/isn't doing. I saw on boards from last year that ppl in the forum goto E3 so if they go again this year.. their input would be valuable. We can all talk about what's going on and etc, but it's not really helping anything.. it's not like Sony CEOs and representatives are looking in this forum for tips on how to sell their product XD And if they were.. I'd be even more scared.

ATM, i wouldn't be surprised if ppl are getting PS3 for blu-ray atm. It's just like how ppl got PSP for everything else BUT the video games, lol.
========================

If I made any repeats in what ppl said, I'm sorry... This is what I think about the whole matter at the moment. Thanks ^^

Unfortunately, most parents don't seem to understand or care that there is a rating system in place for games, they just buy whatever their kids want. That's mainly why you see 12-15 year-old kids playing GTA or manhunt; because their parents didn't give a shit and just bought whatever the kids wanted. It's annoying how afterwards the parent will then attack the video game company's for making such games rather than accept that they fail at parenting.

There also isn't going to be an E3 this year like there was last year. It will still be there, but maybe 10% of the size, instead there are going to be more smaller conventions for companies to hype their games.

Mom just wants a present at this point, shrugs her shoulders, and picks up a white box. Electronics guy rings up the register $.$~

lol, nice one cubs :) I guess there's an advantage for being out for a year... so that they are still on shelves but not collecting dust..

I have a super target opening near my house in a few months.. if i get money.. maybe i'll go at opening and see if they have any Wiis in stock. I did the same for GBA when it first came out at Wal-Mart when they had their grand opening.

Just a question.. what's gonna happen after this generation? Will sony and microsoft will go for eye-candy? For wii they can have the Wiimote but then pump up the graphics for next generation. Maybe sony and microsoft will do the motion thing?

WRONG!

interlaced still displays 60 fields per second, it just doesn't display the entire picture - only half of it on alternating scanlines.

A full interlaced frame does NOT have to be even then odd of the same image.

Any system back to the Atari 2600 is actually capable of 60fps movement (provided the system is powerful enough for the given game to keep it up). In fact, NES backgrounds usually scrolled at 60fps.

Also, your assertion about progressive scan on PS3 ONRY is blatantly false. I don't know who fed you this bullshit, but, just as an example, 720p is just that, 720 progressive scanned. It cannot be displayed interlaced. Thus, since 360's usual target resolution for games is 720p... well, it would logically follow that 360 games run in progressive scan too. Right?

The Wii also has component cables available (I own a set), and I can attest firsthand that my Wii can display in 480p with no qualms whatsoever, just like Gamecube... and apparently Wii's HD capabilities will be updated somehow in the future, from what we've been hearing.

So, yeah, Fire, you got another one completely wrong, good job.

Yeah the fact that the controls are fucked up is my fault, the user? Go play Wii Baseball, pitch. See what happens when you pitch with the remote, wait a moment, then wind your hand back for another pitch.

You guys saying your Wiimote doesn't do weird shit it's not supposed to, like pitch when you're winding it back, or do incorrect motions are liars.

I wasn't looking for reasons to complain, I was expecting the system as advertised. People going on and saying how link's motions are Pemy hand motions. People saying how the controls are intuitive and flawless. People telling me the games were all awesome and much better than the PS3's. This is why I bought the system, because I expect what people were telling me, and of course, of fell short... WAY WAY short.

Maybe instead of going overboard you could advertise honestly.

The wii is a different kind of controller. If you want to do stuff by waving your hand back and forth instead of pressing buttons, it will pick your interests up. If you're bored with the controller, this is a great choice. The games all use the wii-remote, but they have low production values and would not be that fun without the remote. The controller doesn't seem to interact with games perfectly yet, but it shows a lot of promise. The system price is nice, but the games are overpriced for their relative values. Zelda was designed for gamecube and they tacked on some wii controls as a gimmick. Super Smash bros is coming and will probably be online. Comes with wireless internet but no wired internet.

If you said that to me, that would be honest.

If you said to me... "best system ever! launch titles are all great! there are like 10 worth their 50 dollar price tag, so spending 500 bucks on games is a no brainer!!! also worth it to spend another 60X 3 for more wiimotes, 20 for a classic controller and 100 bucks on regular nintendo ports! you'll be so fucking happy with your purchase!!!" like all of you seem to be saying, I'm gonna say, get a fucking clue.

I'm not saying wii sucks. I said it was overhyped and you guys are giving it way more props than it deserves. New controller is nice and all but honestly the controller I want to be playing with is this one.

http://gear.ign.com/articles/769/769529p1.html

To add to that, you are all dissing the PS3 way way more like bandwagon idiots. Going around calling people retarded for having different views on what they want in a game system like freaking 2 year olds. I want high def graphics. I want to play with a ps3 controller. I want to play online with a headset talking shit. I want a more powerful processor. I want to watch blu ray movies. I want to play the sony exclusives and I want to play old emulated games for free on PS3-Linux. You want to play ports with a Wii-mote, congratulations. Play your Wii and shut the fuck up. I can afford a PS3, I can afford a high def TV and I can afford to buy a wii just to stick it in the closet and wait for Metroid and Smash bros come out.

If the games fail to impress me, that's not my fault, that's the wii's fault. You never heard me saying the PS3 games were all spectacular, not once. I say the 360's games are best right now and by no small margin.

Gears of War: best shooter. Oblivian: best rpg. Plus a shitload of other games out that are actually fun to play, to me, in my opinion. Some of the games I want most for ps3 are coming to 360 too... like Armored Core 4, Ut2k7, Spiderman 3 and 360 owners are going to be happy with Virtua Fighter 5 I hope. Until Metal Gear Solid, Devil May Cry, Ratchet and Clank and FF13 come out, the only reason to own a PS3 over a 360 is if you prefer the ps3's controller of the xbox's which I do, and willing to lose out on exclusives now for exclusives later.

Wii I'm sorry, it's a fun toy with the remote, but I also want a powerful gaming machine, and for that you need a 360 or PS3. I don't directly compare 360/PS3 to Wii, I simply say they're 2 different things altogether. The PS3 and Xbox are advances from their earlier models. The wii is a different machine altogether than focuses on a different kind of gaming.

Problem is, I liked the old kind of gaming. I didn't think using a controller was stale and I don't see the need to switch over.

Sorry, if I've become a "sony fanboy," I don't really see it that way. I see it more as in... I've had a lot of fun with my PS3, and moderate disappointment with my Wii. If I hated Nintendo I wouldn't have bought a NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube and Wii. I just honestly like my PS3 more. When you come onto a public forum and say someone is an idiot for their preference you become really immature and in my mind just a damn idiot.

Have fun with your internet trends, bashing the PS3, George W Bush and celebrities that get killed. I've got better things to do, seriously.

Progressive is also a question of the cable from which you're transferring through not just the video card of the machine, and who is the only machine with an HDMI out?

I'd be willing to bet that in the next console generation, you'd see everyone adopting the control style of the wiimote, just with better graphics than the Wii is currently capable of generating. The PS3 and 360 are already at the edge of the influence of graphics on games(Uncanny Valley again), and the only way they would be able to make games more immersive would be to include some kind of motion capturing/sensing in their games. The costs to acheive the PS3's current level of graphics will decrease significantly as well, so Nintendo could improve the graphics for the idiots who think only the visuals of a game matters, without breaking your wallet.

Nintendo is really the only company making any kind of revolutionary changes to gaming, Sony/Microsoft just make tiny evolutionary changes after copying Nintendo's moves. I would be shocked to see the next-next-gen consoles moving away from motion sensative controls via a wiimote-like controller.

I think if we're going to progress further with the idea of a more interactive controller then we'll need something a lot more innovative than the wii-mote. Ultimately the idea of immersing yourself into the game more by trying to replicate the experience is hollow when it's only a 1 way street, even if it was done perfectly.

I can't have a sword fight if when the opponent parry's my hand keeps going. I can't have a boxing match if my hand keeps going forward after it hits the guy's chest. For a real revolution in gaming, the game would have to push back at you with the controller just as you used the controller to push it. How is this possible? I don't know. If someone can come up with that, that's real innovation.

You're taking way too long to throw your pitch if the wind-up is triggering a pitch. I never had that kind of problem with pitching, neither did the 15+ other people I've had play my Wii(half of them don't even play video games, like my parents/grandparents), so the fact that you don't think the wii's controls are any good seem more of a personal problem with the controls or your wii/wiimote is just broken. Yeah, the controls for Wiisports is over simplified, but once again it's a tech demo to demonstrate to even non-gamers what they will be able to do with the Wii. They're using simple motion sensing to figure out your actions rather than the gesture-recognition the wiimote is capable of. You can play all of the Wiisports games sitting on your couch just by flicking your wrist, but there's no fun in that.

You are the one who said that you can't do the full motions because your dorm room is small and you don't have the room, therefore you don't do the motions and don't feel they're any good. That's your personal problem, not a flaw in the console, because everyone else has enough room to be able to act like they're really swinging a bat.

Controllers... if the standard to motion sensor was switched around from the start. Would ppl complain about the traditional setup? To be honest.. I think ppl would because it's so ingrained in their playstyle and techniques. Almost like ppl preferring JP voices with their anime rather than NA voices. NA voices sound fine if you haven't heard the JP version of anime.

I'm not saying traditional controllers are bad. My favorite controller of all time is the SNES controller, which i think started the 'traditional' setup. Plus it had a great d-pad. Nintendo Wiimote is good. You have to start somewhere just like SNES' controller. After the SNES controller, every other system used the button configuration and setup but added stuff to it. DC made the shoulder buttons trigger buttons, PS2 added dual analog, Xbox (2nd version) added nothing but combined the PS2 and DC controllers.

I'm guessing in the future nintendo will add the motion sensor thing to a traditional controller setup somehow so you'll get the best of both worlds. Look at the evolution of the controller.. it sorta 'stops' at SNES. GC controller didn't do well for traditonal fighters.. but for me.. it was the most comfortable controller out of any i've used.

Yeah, that would be a lot better, but you're wanting full-blown VR sets. The best thing they could do with the current wiimote would be that when the game detects and impact(swords clashing, punches landing, etc.) the wiimote would rumble to give you some sense of contact. Actually having the wiimote's motion stop because the path of your character's movement stopped would be impossible unless you're really fighting another person or something.

Lol, now you're just spewing like a retard.

60 half frames per second is the same motion as 60 full frames per second. Don't kid yourself. Due to the way interlaced output is designed, the frames blend together and it looks nearly the same as progressive, just less detailed and tends to flicker on fine lines (check out the SSBM flicker filter sub menu).

Also, HDMI has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH PROGRESSIVE SCAN you dolt!

Well, I don't know what they could do to make this possible, short of wiring directly into your brain, which maybe will be the natural progression for computing. Current technology cannot replicate a sense of reality because it can only control two senses for you, sight and hearing. From this standpoint, if we're trying to immerse ourselves into the game more, we can...

a) Upgrade graphics and sounds.
b) Upgrade controls.

Now I'm of the opinion that I'd rather just have more lifelike visuals and stick with a regular remote, which I'm not the least bit sick of. Gameplay can go either way... with a more powerful system you can create games that you can't with a less powerful system. With a interactive remote you can create games you can't with a regular controller.

Once the technology is out there that we can feel like we're in the game... like we're holding a sword and when our enemy blocks, the sword stops... then I'm going to support 100% whoever is bringing that out. Until that comes, and it'll probably be at least 15 years away, I don't think the traditional controller is getting phased out. If nothing else, my personal disappointment with the Wii has cemented that for me personally.

As far as your long lines of people who have been able to intuitively use your wii and never had any glitching with the controls, I can't comment on that. I can only comment that I don't think I have a defected Wii, I'm home on break now, with a large family room to test it out on and I notice problems with the Wii's controls. I'm not saying the wii sucks, just saying it's not as great as you're all hyping it. Not sure if it's the launch games, since they're overall low quality, that have failed to make Wii controls correctly implimented, or if it's the system itself. I hope it's the games, and good games will come out allowing me to compliment the wii to people and recommend it. If it's the system, I'm not going to be alone in Wii bashing.

Just to throw out, I don't know why on the internet the wii seems so popular, but when talking with friends and the folks in gamestores, they all pretty much say the xbox 360 makes wii look like a kid's toy. Haven't met one person face to face who said they think the wii is awesome.

60 half frames is not the same as 60 full frames. This is basic math, a 5 year old can tell you different. You're really stretching logic to hate on the PS3 to say that half the screen changing is no different than the whole screen changing, it's just a trick on your eyes that the screen appears to be changing every 1/60th of a second if you look at the screen as a whole. Doesn't mean that with the whole screen changing you're running progressive doesn't show twice as much as interlace.
