PS3 is hurting!

It's kind of funny how incorrect you are. Devs have a choice in hosting their own game service, which Silver accounts allow you to play on. Think FFXI and PSU. The UT 3 mods problem comes from allowing custom coding, which could lead to someone throwing a 360 bricking virus in to one.

Is silver free and does it give me allow me to play Gears of War online?

Silver is free. As for Gears of War online, in a sense, yes. It does. If you're playing on the same console as someone who has a gold account as well. Silver can be used to let friends play along with you online.

Again, it's still not Microsoft making the choice for you. They gave Developers the choice. Gold and cut down on server costs, or Silver and pay full price. Developers are the ones not kicking out more Silver-friendly titles, not Microsoft. Sega and Square-Enix went Silver, since they were all ready paying for their servers for the other platforms. Though, strangely, Xbox 360 users are isolated in PSU. Where as PS2 and PC users share servers.

I'd like to throw out that the only games I've ever emulated were ones I legitimately own, albeit in a box somewhere covered with dust and no working system to play them on. Not because I had a moral problem with copy-right law, being as I download shitloads of music I haven't bought CDs for, but because these games aren't particularly good by today's standard. The reason I played them was pure nostalgia.

If you actually bought a legit copy, you're allowed to own a rom of it, you don't have to buy it again from the same company just because they stuck it on a different format.

Nintendo already made millions off super mario brothers, I see no reason to pay them again.

Was a response to Marajade.

That's a shame cause I didn't even realize there was a free silver, but it doesn't seem particularly useful if it can't get me online and playing GoW which would be what I'd buy a 360 for. PSN doesn't have as much fancy features as Live, but I can play online whenever I feel like it, for free. Of course, NHL 2k7 only has like 13 people in the lobby... but, still get a game in 30 seconds.

VC is really shameful and what's funny is how people on this very board spend 100+ bucks on 16 bit games then call PS3 a dumb investment.

I haven't spent $100 on VC games yet, but I will. Doesn't matter to me if you think it's a dumb purchase, but when people bitch about the PS3, they're complaining about the console's price and not the price of the games. Saying VC users can't bitch about the PS3's price is just silly. They're unrelated issues.

This entire thread seems like a monument to buyer's remorse.

Only because you're using 10 posts/page. oh noes, thats a high numbar!

So there will be less reading if I use a higher post-per-page? ....Interesting

QCDN... now with the power to bend time and space.

Regardless, it was a comment made towards his troglodytic "omg its 47 pages, fuck this" comment. Ofcourse when you have your posts per page set incredibly low you're going to have an inflated page count. What genius!

I don't give a shit if it was all on one page, I have somewhere to be in.... 3 hours, I don't have the time or the willpower. I don't see why you're getting your panties in a bunch over this. Would you feel better if I said:

So what was the point of posting if all you're going to say is "wow, this thread is long"? If it's too long for you to bother reading, then just don't post in it; especially when you do nothing to contribute to the thread.

That's some funny logic. One person tells another person their logic is dumb. That person defends the product they purchased, explains the reasoning behind buying the product and then they have "buyer's remorse?"

That's funny how you say VC users can complain about PS3 is funny. PS3 owners pay a lot for their system, but they get a lot for it. The only comparable system, Xbox 360, doesn't come with wireless internet, a harddrive, a high def movie player or free online. If any of those are important to a customer, then the hardware is a good deal. If you want to complain about the software, then stop paying 10 bucks for downloads of N64 games or honestly mind your own business. If you're going to get in mine then I'll get in yours as well.

The only buyer's remorse I have is Wii, I gave it another shot renting Splinter Cell and it sucked hard.

I think the point is it's just as easy irl to throw your arms up and verbalize, thereby validating your opinion, to yourself and moving on as opposed to sticking your feet in the shark tank with steak tied to your ankles.

Knowing full damn well this topic is a powder-keg of short fuses for the off-topic and uninformed.

It's not a dig so much as a well-intended cautionary post, man. You're gonna bother riling up skaw, cubs, fire, AND baja? Good fucking luck with that

If it's not worth reading in it's entirety it's either not worth reading or you aren't interested enough in the topic and opinions presented. It's all pretty clear cut, IMO.

Has anyone played that game Flow?

As for MS debate: Game sucks, took it out from my work and it is exactly like the demo.

That's the buyer's remorse monument I was talking about. Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like every time one of these console fanboy pissing matches starts, you get aggravated when people say they're happy with the Wii because you aren't enjoying yours. I get that you're not satisfied with it, but that doesn't mean that nobody else should be.

I'm not going to tell someone who bought a PS3 that they got hosed or threw their money away on a bad investment, so maybe I should've ignored your VC comment because it doesn't apply to me. That's fair. But my point was that bitching about a console's price and bitching about the games' prices aren't exactly the same thing.

You're not, but others are (lolTag)
We thank you for being one of the sane people in this debate.

PS3 service is free because the devs handle the servers not sony. Therefore the cost of multiplayer is built into game price, just like ps2 games. For xbox, microsoft handles all online, which is cheaper for devs but gives them less control. This leads to problems like with EA who like to kill their servers to force customers to buy the next year's product or with UT2k7 and the problems with the game mods.

I paid $54 for 13 months of Live Gold. Now, you get the same great deal and some free arcade games, which I sadly, already paid extra for. That, is really, really inexpensive. It's ten year old milk money inexpensive and really not worth bringing into an argument. Free scares me. Free checking from Wamu sucks, free vacations from telemarketers suck, and free MMORPG games suck. However, it's to early to tell how the PS3 will hold up on it's free internet play, way to early. God knows if it's as bad as the PS2 and PSP's I feel sorry for everyone banking on the lame-o "it's teh uber free service" excuse to further justify their purchase.

As per UT2K7, look for it to cause problems if they allow modding. Personally, I will never set foot in a modded game unless modded by myself or someone I know personally. I'm really, really hoping they [Microsoft] don't allow modding on Live. Also, Microsoft doesn't handle all online stuff but I wont get into it, Skaw already got to it.

It's kind of a funny parallel when you look at the ps3 and the blu-ray. Microsoft was saying how they prefer to give their customer's choice, which is why their HD DVD is optional, but they don't give you a choice in online. You buy xbox live or your games are all offline. Now, since you're already paying for xbox live, you might as well buy your crossplatforms for xbox. Oh yeah, and they're all about choice, but you can't choose a blu-ray add-on.

You do have an online choice. Silver or Gold. That's a choice even though, imo, Silver sucks. Can't have it all. I'd rather the few people who apparently live on the streets and own a T.V., internet connection, and a 360 who can't afford Gold to miss out than get the repercussions that generally comes with free and I'm sure Microsoft is the same way.

Blu-ray is a Sony technology, no? Why would Microsoft support a format they don't support? They realize how useless it is and are sticking with what A: works B: is best and C: makes more sense. I highly doubt Sony would sell Microsoft the rights to create or create a third-party Blu-ray add-on for the 360. If they did, it would also be dangerous for the PS3 considering that's the only thing it really has going for it, if you can really call it that. However, there is a choice here for the consumer that truely wants Blu-ray. You either buy a PS3 because you want Blu-ray or you buy a 360 because you want a video game console.

As far as crossplatform games go, why not buy them on Xbox? They have the real gamerscore system that isn't a copy-cat to sway buyers. They also have a marketplace track record in which we know what we're getting. With Sony, for now, it's a gamble, and will be for about the first year or so.

Not really sure where I'm going with all this... just the way it's structured makes it hard for a ps3 owner to buy a 360, since all the titles run off live.

That's not true. All games out right now have a single player aspect of the game. It'd be like buying God of war for PS2. It's not online, you buy it for single player mode. Well, 360 gives you the choice. Do you want the norm or do you want more? Choice is yours.

I don't want the premium service. Don't really care how many demos I have access to and I damn sure don't need achievement points. I'd like to play 360 games online without needing the premium live service. Then I'd go out and buy one.

I use to be the same way. I would crack jokes at my Xbox buddies about how they needed these lolachievements to enjoy a game. Then I bought a 360 and am still eating my words. It brings more competition to the table. I also never owned a game that wasn't an RPG. Achievements changed that. They give you more to shoot for than just beating the game once and playing a few online rounds. It all boils down to the Xbox being a more competitive gamers system. We have leaderboards, looking at the PSNetwork I don't see anything other than "play a game" in features of online gaming, that we actually do care about, especially if you're looking to compete in tournys, and points that mean something among friends in friendly wagers/competitions, etc.. It's more than just a simple "I did this" mark... it adds a totally new element to gameplay, game longevity, and how good you make yourself at a game.

Just a note: I expect the Wii service will be shitty too so it's not just the PS3... I'm not one of those cats.

I'm really, really having a hard time seeing how people are actually standing behind Sony this time... This guy is as intelligent as they come and says it all in a manner I think you three, four now maybe?, need to hear. It's all true and can be researched to be fact.

Well it wasn't directed at you. Everyone has different tastes in gaming, which is why there are 3 next gen consoles in the first place.

Btw, Motorstorm = pretty fun, not life changing but fun. It's probably the best racing game out there but unless you really love racing I don't see it as a system seller. Worth the price tag though for sure.
