PS3 is hurting!

I paid $54 for 13 months of Live Gold. Now, you get the same great deal and some free arcade games, which I sadly, already paid extra for. That, is really, really inexpensive. It's ten year old milk money inexpensive and really not worth bringing into an argument. Free scares me. Free checking from Wamu sucks, free vacations from telemarketers suck, and free MMORPG games suck. However, it's to early to tell how the PS3 will hold up on it's free internet play, way to early. God knows if it's as bad as the PS2 and PSP's I feel sorry for everyone banking on the lame-o "it's teh uber free service" excuse to further justify their purchase.

As per UT2K7, look for it to cause problems if they allow modding. Personally, I will never set foot in a modded game unless modded by myself or someone I know personally. I'm really, really hoping they [Microsoft] don't allow modding on Live. Also, Microsoft doesn't handle all online stuff but I wont get into it, Skaw already got to it.

You do have an online choice. Silver or Gold. That's a choice even though, imo, Silver sucks. Can't have it all. I'd rather the few people who apparently live on the streets and own a T.V., internet connection, and a 360 who can't afford Gold to miss out than get the repercussions that generally comes with free and I'm sure Microsoft is the same way.

Blu-ray is a Sony technology, no? Why would Microsoft support a format they don't support? They realize how useless it is and are sticking with what A: works B: is best and C: makes more sense. I highly doubt Sony would sell Microsoft the rights to create or create a third-party Blu-ray add-on for the 360. If they did, it would also be dangerous for the PS3 considering that's the only thing it really has going for it, if you can really call it that. However, there is a choice here for the consumer that truely wants Blu-ray. You either buy a PS3 because you want Blu-ray or you buy a 360 because you want a video game console.

As far as crossplatform games go, why not buy them on Xbox? They have the real gamerscore system that isn't a copy-cat to sway buyers. They also have a marketplace track record in which we know what we're getting. With Sony, for now, it's a gamble, and will be for about the first year or so.

That's not true. All games out right now have a single player aspect of the game. It'd be like buying God of war for PS2. It's not online, you buy it for single player mode. Well, 360 gives you the choice. Do you want the norm or do you want more? Choice is yours.

I use to be the same way. I would crack jokes at my Xbox buddies about how they needed these lolachievements to enjoy a game. Then I bought a 360 and am still eating my words. It brings more competition to the table. I also never owned a game that wasn't an RPG. Achievements changed that. They give you more to shoot for than just beating the game once and playing a few online rounds. It all boils down to the Xbox being a more competitive gamers system. We have leaderboards, looking at the PSNetwork I don't see anything other than "play a game" in features of online gaming, that we actually do care about, especially if you're looking to compete in tournys, and points that mean something among friends in friendly wagers/competitions, etc.. It's more than just a simple "I did this" mark... it adds a totally new element to gameplay, game longevity, and how good you make yourself at a game.

Just a note: I expect the Wii service will be shitty too so it's not just the PS3... I'm not one of those cats.

I'm really, really having a hard time seeing how people are actually standing behind Sony this time... This guy is as intelligent as they come and says it all in a manner I think you three, four now maybe?, need to hear. It's all true and can be researched to be fact.

Actually if you look at this PSN "Home" that just got confirmed today, Playstation network may even give Xbox Live a run for its money. It seemed like they didn't rip off myspace, live or nintendo. They ripped off Second life, which in turn, ripped off Snow Crash. Pretty cool stuff. Not that I think I'll use PSN for anything other than just playing games, but stuff will be out there for people who want a more broad network. As well charging for a service doesn't make it better always, especially if the service is supposed to help the company sell games in the first place.

How would any of this give Xbox Live a run for it's money? I personally don't care to know how many times my adversary or teammate has been drunk, had sex, or masterbated with his pinky finger in his brown-eye. Also, make no mistake, ripping off is ripping off, doesn't matter where or who you get it from. Somewhere down the line I think Sony slipped one past you and made you forget what the PS3 is suppose to be. Hey, on the bright side, if they keep ripping people off, you're bound to get some better justifications :D

Everyone rips everyone off. It's not like Second Life was an original idea, it's based on Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash. Point is that Home will be whatever you want it to be. If you want games and demos, can get those. If you want "achievements," those will be requirements for PS3 games. If you want high def movies, there will be there. If you want to share media, will be there too. If you just want to play games, PS3 runs them as well if not eventually better than 360.

All I care about personally is Blu-Ray movies, gaming and online head-to-head. Could care less about leaderboards and achievements.

Has anyone played that game Flow?

It's useful for one purpose, speaking from personal experience, if you smoke weed it will entertain you and your friends for hours while you're high. If you don't smoke, don't bother getting it because you won't get much out of it. Only PSN game worth it sober is Tekken 5: DR, which is a freaking steal for 20 bucks. Soduko may be worth it if you like number puzzles otherwise move on.

Personally, it looks about as intersting as Second Life to me. I never played Second Life. Now, if I were a Mac-Daddy E-Pimp, I'd be all over that. I'm just not into things like that but it's simply my own personal view of things of the nature. The only thing interesting about that video is the game they show after saying "launch into games with your friends", or something like that. It looked pretty neat. what is it?

I think it will sell consoles though, sadly... even if it is a total rip-off on an epic scale.

No idea what that game was, but apparently there's going to be a lot of dev kits out there so amateurs to make content for the network, so should be lots of that crap floating around people can play for free.

By the way, on a 2nd playing of Motorstorm, it's a lot better once you get the hang of it. I found the first time playing I crashed a lot and had difficulty with the handling. Once I played for about an hour it was a lot smoother to me and I found myself winning races. A lot of fun then. I suggest you and your friend put up with the learning curve for a few more races, try out some different cars, maybe something will be nice for you, then tell me if you still think it's overrated.

edit: That game was called littlebigworld I think.

LittleBigworld you're right, it's suppose to be "Sony's start at targeting a younger demographics for their console", to quote Game Trailers. It really is a neat looking game. Every action you do causes a reaction from an object and combining those things lets you progress through maze like levels. You can even jump into a maze with friends... It looks truely amazing and I'm sad it's Sony onry, very sad. It is a free game as well. Microsoft is finally seeping out their XBLA dev kits out to the public and man, I want to play with it so bad, I hear it's really, really simple and I have all these god damn ideas going to waste... They are having a contest for the best XBLA game created by someone new and giving them $10k and a contract.

As far as MotorStorm, he owns it so we'll definatly be playing it a lot more. However, it was the same as the demo I've spent tons of time with. I didn't suck at the game I just didn't like it. However, I'm not at all a racing fan in general. I love the whole crappy handling that makes you power slide through most curves etc. but I think they could have made the system a bit smoother and a lot less sensitive. Like FPS games, it takes a truely good racing game to get me to even speak decently about it.

i am shocked noone touched on this. Assasins Creed. WHAT THE FUCK! First big title that is coming for the fucking thing, AND THEY LOSE RIGHTS TO IT. But hey were lauching Oblivion, correct me if i am wrong, was that not the LAUCH title for 360?

Oblivion came out months after the 360 was already released.

Maybe sell a few copies?

I'm telling you Strid, I went back and played more Motorstorm and liked it even more. Every time I play, I like it more. You've got to put it in first person mode and play with an ATV or something else with tight handling. I swear to god once you get good at it, the feeling is unbelievable. The visual and sounds and the physics make it feel like you're really out there driving in the dirt. I just got finished playing for a couple hours, and after the last race I had to turn off the PS3 and stand up and pace back and forth because I was overloaded on adrenaline. Everyone says the online is the best, but just playing offline against the computers is amazing. The levels are designed so perfectly so that you're in a constant struggle to keep yourself on the path and once you start to learn the tracks you focus on how you can squeeze every last second out of your performance.

The last racing games I really enjoyed were Mariokart(for the SNES, the N64 sucked) and Diddy Kong racing, so this comes as a shock to me how much Motorstorm juiced me up.

People bitching about lack of splitscreen and while I admit I'd like that... I can't imagine splitscreen having the same level of connection that you feel like you're in the game based on half a screen and a shared set of speakers.

I'll get my time with it and post up my impressions as I go along.

Warhawk needs to come to the 360, it's definatly a MLG game. Looks like a 3rd person Halo without the shitty auto-aim and shield system.

Unfortunately for 360 owners Sony is publishing it, so it isn't going to get ported. It does look like a nice buy though, with 4 player splitscreen going online and what seems to me like huge epic battles with 32 players and 100s of NPCs running around blowing shit up. What would have been cool is if they made it like MMO and had hundreds of players at once in a dedicated server but I'm sure both systems will get games like that eventually. It's a good thing it's coming out soon because it might get killed if it came out later against Metal Gear Solid 4, UT2k7 and Killzone 2.

I'm not a total fanboy so not gonna say Killzone 2 is gonna be a Halo 3 killer but with Metal Gear Solid 4 to leverage it'll be alright.

Yeah, it's a damn shame. If Sony ported it they'd make a hell of a whole lot more money and the game would definatly be league worthy. It would contend with Halo but wont now, unfortunatly.

I dunno about Killzone 2. Killzone was a horrible game, to me, and, reviews aside, everyone else I know who touched it. It's not gettin' any hype at all, despite Sony's efforts, so I dunno. Hopefully, for the sake of you guys getting some decent games, it'll be good but I doubt it'll even be looked at as even denting Halo 3's lime lite. As per MSG4, the creater is not denouncing anymore, he already did once... I know, the rumor of the 360 getting MGS4 around 6 months after PS3. He wont say yes, but he wont say no either. He's already said he was parting ways with Sony for his next series of games, non MGS related. So I'm looking forward to that. The way Snake Eater was, I'm ready for him to move on and make a new series as, imo, MGS died after the first PS game.

I'm going to flat out say that a 360 port of Metal Gear Solid is at this point just wishful thinking. He's actually said several times that it's staying a PS3 exclusive, just like FF13 which also gets port rumors. From what I understand they are having trouble fitting everything onto a blu-ray so I doubt they're going to try and release it on 5 DVDs.
