Strid said:I paid $54 for 13 months of Live Gold. Now, you get the same great deal and some free arcade games, which I sadly, already paid extra for. That, is really, really inexpensive. It's ten year old milk money inexpensive and really not worth bringing into an argument. Free scares me. Free checking from Wamu sucks, free vacations from telemarketers suck, and free MMORPG games suck. However, it's to early to tell how the PS3 will hold up on it's free internet play, way to early. God knows if it's as bad as the PS2 and PSP's I feel sorry for everyone banking on the lame-o "it's teh uber free service" excuse to further justify their purchase.
As per UT2K7, look for it to cause problems if they allow modding. Personally, I will never set foot in a modded game unless modded by myself or someone I know personally. I'm really, really hoping they [Microsoft] don't allow modding on Live. Also, Microsoft doesn't handle all online stuff but I wont get into it, Skaw already got to it.
You do have an online choice. Silver or Gold. That's a choice even though, imo, Silver sucks. Can't have it all. I'd rather the few people who apparently live on the streets and own a T.V., internet connection, and a 360 who can't afford Gold to miss out than get the repercussions that generally comes with free and I'm sure Microsoft is the same way.
Blu-ray is a Sony technology, no? Why would Microsoft support a format they don't support? They realize how useless it is and are sticking with what A: works B: is best and C: makes more sense. I highly doubt Sony would sell Microsoft the rights to create or create a third-party Blu-ray add-on for the 360. If they did, it would also be dangerous for the PS3 considering that's the only thing it really has going for it, if you can really call it that. However, there is a choice here for the consumer that truely wants Blu-ray. You either buy a PS3 because you want Blu-ray or you buy a 360 because you want a video game console.
As far as crossplatform games go, why not buy them on Xbox? They have the real gamerscore system that isn't a copy-cat to sway buyers. They also have a marketplace track record in which we know what we're getting. With Sony, for now, it's a gamble, and will be for about the first year or so.
That's not true. All games out right now have a single player aspect of the game. It'd be like buying God of war for PS2. It's not online, you buy it for single player mode. Well, 360 gives you the choice. Do you want the norm or do you want more? Choice is yours.
I use to be the same way. I would crack jokes at my Xbox buddies about how they needed these lolachievements to enjoy a game. Then I bought a 360 and am still eating my words. It brings more competition to the table. I also never owned a game that wasn't an RPG. Achievements changed that. They give you more to shoot for than just beating the game once and playing a few online rounds. It all boils down to the Xbox being a more competitive gamers system. We have leaderboards, looking at the PSNetwork I don't see anything other than "play a game" in features of online gaming, that we actually do care about, especially if you're looking to compete in tournys, and points that mean something among friends in friendly wagers/competitions, etc.. It's more than just a simple "I did this" mark... it adds a totally new element to gameplay, game longevity, and how good you make yourself at a game.
Just a note: I expect the Wii service will be shitty too so it's not just the PS3... I'm not one of those cats.
I'm really, really having a hard time seeing how people are actually standing behind Sony this time... This guy is as intelligent as they come and says it all in a manner I think you three, four now maybe?, need to hear. It's all true and can be researched to be fact.

Actually if you look at this PSN "Home" that just got confirmed today, Playstation network may even give Xbox Live a run for its money. It seemed like they didn't rip off myspace, live or nintendo. They ripped off Second life, which in turn, ripped off Snow Crash. Pretty cool stuff. Not that I think I'll use PSN for anything other than just playing games, but stuff will be out there for people who want a more broad network. As well charging for a service doesn't make it better always, especially if the service is supposed to help the company sell games in the first place.
