PS3 is hurting!

It is in Europe also.

Not yet. just over a week left to launch.

And i duno how people can call Motorstorm "Excite bike." Its fun as hell, and online moreso.

Gah. My bad, i thought they were already announcing problems with it in Europe so i thought it had been released.

Worldwide sales seem a bit stupid to compare with PS3 still unreleased except in US and Japan.

Ok, just US+Japan Wii numbers vs. PS3/360 worldwide:

PS3/360 worldwide sales for Feb.: 478k
US+Japan Wii sales for Feb.: 614k

Better? If PS3 doesn't win March worldwide I don't think there's any spin left.

Also, just counting the US/JP markets the 360 beat the PS3 after falling slightly behind it in January (240k vs. 234k.)

One final bit of news: The Wii is now the biggest-selling console in history after five months out. With 4 months of sales.

What does that even mean? Is it a typo?

Here is a situation.

Wathcing a movie and the pic QUALITY looks like shit. With the shitty quality you have no desire to watch the movie.

If you can not get the best quality out of your PS3, you will have no desire to play it.

Ah, so there was a typo but you still had a point. The lack of an HDtv isn't the reason why I don't have much desire to play PS3, that would be the lack of good games. I've got no problem playing any games on my low-def tv, so just because I can't play the game in 1080p wouldn't stop me from actually playing it. And really, it's pretty foolish to think that the only reason people don't buy the PS3 is because they don't have HDtv's; that'd be the only reason they don't buy blue-ray DVD's, but the console itself wouldn't make much difference.

I'm not going to drop a thousand dollars buying a good-sized HDtv when my low-def works just fine. I could, it'd just be a waste of money since it'd be a pointless upgrade unless you're obsessed with having the best of everything.

It isn't about people being too poor, it's about the console having a pointless game library currently. Price is just making it hard for people to buy it now before the games start coming like they did in the first year of PS2's life.

For reference, by the way, I have a 1080i capable TV and have very little interest in PS3, not because of fanboyism (i heart my ps2) but because the system just isn't worth a damn yet. Maybe it will be eventually after heavy price drops and once a decent number of games that don't suck are out...

I think another question for any consumer isn't just market share... especially considering even with the least market share, playstation 3 is still doing great, as just because competitors are doing well doesn't mean you're sinking... especially when 1 of the competitors is going after populations you weren't trying for anyway.

It's a question of, which games do well for the brand?

Here are some software sales.. This is of Japan: All time

Pokemon Red / Green / Blue GB Nintendo 10,224,500
Pokemon Gold / Silver GB Nintendo 7,207,250
Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire GBA Nintendo 5,357,000
Pokemon Diamond / Pearl DS Nintendo 5,007,500
New Super Mario Bros DS Nintendo 4,414,750
Brain Training 2 DS Nintendo 4,388,000
Animal Crossing: Wild World DS Nintendo 4,254,500
Tetris GB Nintendo 4,226,000
Super Mario Land GB Nintendo 4,183,250
Dragon Quest VII PS Enix 4,103,250
Super Mario Kart SNES Nintendo 3,816,750
Final Fantasy VIII PS Square 3,630,250
Dragon Quest VIII PS2 Enix 3,609,000
Super Mario World SNES Nintendo 3,547,500
Brain Training DS Nintendo 3,461,750
Final Fantasy VII PS Square 3,277,500
Dragon Quest VI SNES Enix 3,188,500
Pokemon Yellow GB Nintendo 3,128,000
Pokemon Fire Red / Leaf Green GBA Nintendo 3,064,750

Here's the top 10 in the US, all time:

1 Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Take 2 8,116,750
2 Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas Take 2 7,785,750
3 Super Mario 64 Nintendo 6,839,000
4 Grand Theft Auto 3 Take 2 6,499,000
5 Halo 2 Microsoft 6,103,000
6 GoldenEye 007 Nintendo 5,628,250
7 Pokemon Ruby / Sapphire Nintendo 5,617,500
8 Mario Kart 64 Nintendo 5,460,000
9 Halo Microsoft 4,892,500
10 Nintendogs Nintendo 4,574,250

The games that Nintendo publishes and does great in are not the games that as an adult I want to play. I don't want Nintendogs, the fact that it's popular is meaningless to me. It means that there will be many more of those programs geared towards 8 year olds. I don't want 10 versions of Pokemon, but there will be many releases of pokemon for the wii. The best Nintendo game I ever played?

Find by Game!! Tamagotchi GB Bandai 1,444,750
Find by Game!! Tamagotchi 2 GB Bandai 1,444,000
Crash Bandicoot 3 PS Sony 1,424,000
Big Brain Academy DS Nintendo 1,418,250
Super Smash Bros Melee GC Nintendo 1,396,500

Down here at the bottom under some bullshit. There are 2 Tamagotchi games that beat it. What the fuck?

RPGs tend to do well on the playstation brand, shooters tend to do well on the microsoft brand and children games tend to do well on the nintendo brand.

The question is... are people who want to play RPGs and Shooters buying the wii and no other systems? How much market share does wii have of the people who play the games I'm interested in? If 6 milllion children own the wii(hypothetically), and they are most interested in pokemon, is GTA4 going to do well there? Or are the people interested in GTA4 already planning on getting a 360 or PS3(or own already), regardless if they have a Wii or not.

"Hardcore gamers" tend to have different tastes then the general population in terms of what they like. If you tried to sell grand theft auto to adult females, age 40-50, you aren't going to have the same popularity as towards young males 15-25. Wii has effectively expanded the market, but it's also stretched the userbase in that way.... 6 million wii owners. How many of them will buy GTA4? I bet 6 million xbox owners would make better sales of GTA4 than 6 million Wii owners. In fact I bet 4 million PS3 owners would buy more GTA4 than 8 million Wii owners.

The PS3 is falling well short of Sony's projections, they were planning what, 6 million by may and they're not even at 2 million yet? It's not dead, but it's not doing that well.

I'm planning on doing in this console generation what I did in the last one. My nintendo console will be mainly for multiplayer(since they have the best party games, period) and I'll get one of the so-called "super consoles" for single player. Which one comes down to the exclusive games.

PS3 is over 2 mill.

Nextgenwars on the other hand uses bad info.

Here is a thread that's stickied.

First off if you can do better go make your own site.

2nd We use MS SHIPPED as official numbers because MS SHIPPED is shipped to retailers. Retailers dont order unless they are going to sell them. Saying 10.6M because thats what they claimed back at the end of January is pretty damn close. Closer then the estimate added on to Media Create and NPD numbers.

so why you ask dont we use SONY SHIPPED numbers? Because SONY Shipped is what they have rolled off the assembly line and shipped to THEIR warehouses waiting for retailers to order them. They could sit a long time there. So in this case the NPD and Media Create numbers are the better way to go.

Nintendo reports pretty much like MS... Sold to retailers.. but since the Wii is barely sitting on the shelves for more then an hour we can assume that they are as close to sold as real. thats why no one argues with them..

Again if you dont like the numbers then please... Feel free to open your own site.. analyse a ton of data and come up with your own numbers. We are happy with ours. If they are a little off right now.. dont worry they will be fixed.. truthfully tho.. it doesnt matter a lick right now.

If you really must complain about them, please dont post threads that will start flames. Just quietly PM the Admin. Regardless the numbers will be updated when they are updated.

They basically say... they use different criteria to guess different console sales. VGcharts uses actual sales figures and just doesn't update every 2 seconds. VGcharts is accurate, nextgenwars is fast. Honestly, with their numbers half a mill off, nextgenwars shouldn't even exist, because people just believe data they see without wondering where it comes from.

By the way, what they were projecting was 6 million shipped to retailers by the end of May. That will probably fall short but it will be maybe around 5 million. I expect they'll be at 3 mill actually sold to costumers at end of March considering all the pre-orders in EU, as well as the release of Motorstorm, the unveiling of Home and Littlebigplanet worldwide. Not to mention there's Oblivian, Armored Core 4 and Virtua Tennis 3 coming out.

How about the fact that Sony is currently sinking in their console department with the PS3? The PSP is keeping them afloat, somehow, and the PS2 is keepign them alive, somewhat, still. They've admitted it. Doesn't seem like the "Playstation 3 is doing great" to me and everyone else who doesn't own or desire to own one :/ Like a fact I linked you too way back... and you probably didn't read... Anyone who makes a buck between PS3 production and March will have made more money than Sony's console department. Probably longer but those projections aren't out yet.

On the whole "If you can't see it in HD you wont like it" spill... That's it, it's just spill. I enjoy the hell out of my 360 and I don't own a HD. I probably never will. The 360 looks great on a normal screen and the Wii too.

Well if you don't have a HD TV, 360 and PS3 will still look very nice on a standard def resolution TV, comparatively to Wii, if you're judging based on graphics alone. 360 and PS3 can also run better engines, use better physics, create more objects, smarter AI.

No question the 360 has a better games library, but the one big fear that's been instilled to me is a 30 day warranty, 150 dollar repair bill and high percentage of repair needs. From what I've been reading a lot of them got burned out somehow from playing Dead Rising and then a lot of them are not having trouble with Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2. Trouble is that Microsoft won't release any honest data with regards to the failure rates, first claiming it under 5% then admitting it's much higher and having to extend warranties. Thing is that I heard PS2 was buggy like that.... but I had a PS2 from nearly after launch to when I got a PS3 and sold it... I played FFXI on it, left it on for weeks at a time, bazaaring between playing, and it never had any trouble once. So I'm a little wary of 360 purchase until a few months go by and it can be confirmed the 3 rings of death are no longer an issue.

I bet when that happens 360 sales will go up.

Anyway, back to my original point... yeah, you don't need a HD TV to enjoy HD gaming, because the games still look good on standard def TVs. In fact Motorstorm will make people go "wow, that looks incredible" on a standard def TV. The thing is that when people get a new TV now, the price of HD TVs are low enough that it's dumb to get a standard def. Maybe most people don't want to upgrade if they don't need a new TV, but high def isn't expensive at all anymore.

When you do have a high def TV, high def games and high def movies do make a difference.

People are to poor to be able to appreciate the PS3.

dont confuse 'to poor(sic)' with 'unable to enjoy the brown color spectrum enough'
