PS3 Robbery Suspect Shot to Death

Again, from the cop's perspective, you're going into a situation where you're planning to arrest a man who may well have access to a variety of firearms and has been charged with assault prior to this warrant. You go to the house, he doesn't answer, you break down the door to search the building, a dog comes at you, a man holding an oblong black object comes out... You've got a split second to make your decision. From the standpoint of personal safety, the proper decision is to shoot. If you take the time to identify the object, you may well get shot yourself. If you attempt to subdue the suspect, you may well get shot yourself. You may say that it's the job of police officers to take that risk, and I say you're insane. If I'm serving a warrant on you, and I think you might be dangerous... well hell, my life is vastly more important to me than yours is. As I said, I'd have taken the shot and not lost an ounce of sleep over it. As the cops said, “If this boy would’ve come to the door, opened the door, we probably wouldn’t be talking,”.

And Chris, I understand you're upset about what happened, but as far as I can tell from what you've said so far, you weren't there. So you really have no idea what actually happened. For all you know, your buddy was running out into the foyer screaming "Allah Akbar" and holding a detonator. People lie. You accuse the cops of lying to make themselves look good, I can just as easily level that accusation against your buddy's roomies. They were, after all, the ones enjoying the fruits of felony in all likelihood.

You can't try to carry on an argument when you say things like this. It makes you look stupid and no one listens to stupid people. They smashed his door down because he didn't answer it. "They" are cops, he is a suspect, do the math.

To Busta: Buddhism to me is pure and I can appreciate that. There is no wrong in its ways and to be honest I find it quite lovely. However, worshipping concrete and the spirituality of it, doesn't set well with me. It's a good moral standpoint for one to learn some heavy values but nothing more. You shouldn't feel the need to be rewarded for being a good person, you should want to be a good person because it's the right thing to do. I hate the idea of Karma and all that it stands for. I refuse to belive, based off my many years of life, that's how things work.

Where does it say he had previous charges?

In one of the articles posted along the thread, Strickland (the suspect/victim) had previous charges of assault when he broke someone's jaw.

"The warrant also pointed out that Strickland had been charged with assault in September after a UNCW student complained Strickland punched him so hard that his jaw shattered."

Ah I see, I only read the article posted by the OP.

They may have followed the proper procedures behind the warrant, but it wasn't justified to shoot on sight.

I've had a picture taken with a gun, but not looking all gangster with friends.

Next time a police officer comes to my door, I'll make sure to leave my controller at the table. I'll have to make sure my black cell phone doesn't look like a concealed weapon either.

Next time the police come to your door, be a genius and don't have anything in your hands.

Opening the door probably helps too.

I think Tyrath is correct. Can't be certain, my mind is running away, it was lawl'd.

He was on his way to open the door when they busted it down.

Im sick and tired of all you people talking shit to a kid who was recently shot and killed. Do you all have no souls? What if his parents saw this thread? Man I'd feel bad.... I wont stop how you feel, but if you have nothing but critisizm and mean shit to say about a boy who was killed then keep it to yourself. Thats just cruel.

I said nothing against the kid really. Just giving advice to future potential criminals.

I have no opinion one way or the other about this guy. Nor do I have a soul. Lost that a while ago.

Elemmire, what do genes have to do with anything. Last time I checked there was no such thing as a Rapist gene, or a Murderer gene. You can't look at a family tree and be like "oh that family tree all have the rapist gene, passed on from generation to generation!"

but behaviour and stuff like that does get passed on, which can lead to rape/murder

ie: mental illness (psycologically) and when thats untreated, 1thing makes them snap, and youll get the next zodiac killer >.>

Chris, you say that he was on the way to open the door, but you wernt there, the kids dead, how do you know that?

and yes, cops DO have th authority to shoot someone if they are holding something that looks like a weapon when entering someones house (by force), they dont take chances, shoot first, ask later, and the fact he didnt open the door right away kinda made the cops think "he prob going for a gun, or gunna bolt"?

Elle kinda has the right idea, if all the criminals were gone, the world would be semi-utopia, but its not going to happen, and jail... cmon... people arnt scared... some people come out, violate again and go back right in...

and im not bashing your friend or anything, but he did theft (or is suspected in theft of a 600+$ system), you may think hes all a goos nice guy, but people arnt always what you think, alot of people are 2face, and it just takes 1 little thing before they snap and do some crimes

I'm sick of you pretending you were there, and that the cops busted down his door with the intent to pump him full of lead.
With the information presented to the public to this date, the police were fully justified in thier actions.

He was a thief and a guilty assailent, I have a soul but no pity to spare on garbage. Had he not stolen, he'd still be alive. Had he answered the door hastefully, in a normal manner, he'd still be alive. Get the fuck off the box, your friend killed himself and no one feels sorry about it but his friends and family. He was trash, scum, dirt, a low-life, no good piece of shit thief with shit for brains. One less time I have to turn my back walking somewhere at night.

thats all i agree with Stride... lol, but yeah, basically that summed it up... he had a choice and he took the wrong one, and thats what happends

Chris, I think the question is bettered ask, what is wrong with you? You are defending the kid that you sort of knew and weren't even at the scene. I am more inclined to believe the police report and the news article then you, who graduated with him and you were not even at the crime scene.
