If you're going to Implement it, let people choose whether or not they want their profile to show or not? Or you could make it so that Friends can only view it? If it's mainly being implement so people can see where people are getting rep ups from, thats none of some peoples business.

i agree with this statement. i've wondered how the rate kings have gotten their rep but as soon as i leave QCDN the thought leaves with it. i'd only really be interested in my friends rates anyway.

if made totally public i can see this system getting abused and the comments getting out of hand in no time.

I hold no opinion one way or the other. Although lately the trend seems to be putting funny/stupid rate downs in your sig.

I think you're way off base with your accusations Zyn, and frankly, why you feel you must whole-heartedly disagree with any suggestion I make on these boards makes it seem you're not disagreeing with the ideas but the person.

There is blatant abuse going on with the system, making public comments in a private way to try to save face. In a perfect world, the rate-up/down system would work with being private. But when 3 LS-leaders are sending responses to threads via a rate-down rather than responding where everyone can see, there's a problem.

Where am I accusing anyone of anything? I'm disagreeing with you... once again... because I think what you're proposing is ridiculous and because it was already discussed at length and shot down. You're bringing it up and I'm meeting it with the exact same response I had the last time it was brought up and you had nothing to do with it. Funny you ignore the many times I've played devil's advocate on your behalf and act like I disagree with you just for the sake of it. I disagree with what you're proposing, and yeah, I'm vocal about it. Since you're pretty vocal on your end of it, I'd think you'd get that and stop with this "Oh will you stop stalking my posts and attacking me" bullshit every single time. It's tired.

"Blatant abuse" would be prevented or addressed by a report function on the rep system. I don't have a problem with that. If you want to report something negative someone's said to you, bully for you. But no, you do not need to read everyone else's comments and be in everyone else's business. And I mean "you" in the general sense Jamal, since you seem to believe that since I disagree with you on many, many things that it is some personal target practice on my part.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm pretty sure I'm not), but can't mods or at the very least admins view rep comments already? I find it nigh impossible to believe that literally no one in power can see rep comments. It wouldn't even require coding to allow users to file complaints about rep abuse, all they would have to do is just find a post by the user in question and report it with "Please check the rep comments I have received from this user" and the mods/admins could look into it. It really should be that simple unless I'm missing something profound.

I'm fine with a report function. That should be more than sufficient to, at least, slow down abuse of a reputation system. I can think of one instance (re: jyakotsu vs. Zerayla) off-hand where it would have come in exceptionally handy.

Making it publicly viewable though is like making the private message inboxes viewable. I *still* type things in rep window that I don't want anyone else to see. If I agree strongly with something Stine says, rep her up for it, and I *just happen to* tack on a "I can't wait til you get home *rrrrwwwoooorrrrrr*", I sure as hell don't want that to be seen by the larger part of the community.

Likewise, I don't think making it viewable by friends is necessarily good either. I might have two separate friends who aren't friends themselves, and if one reps me up for disagreeing with another (as friends are allowed to disagree, contrary to popular belief), and the other potentially reads and misconstrues the meaning of the rep-up, it could cause a vast amount of discomfort for all three parties involved, and in a worst-case scenario, could mean the breakdown of friendships in the process.

I can't even recall the last post I rated you up for Trist but WELL SAID!!

**Unable to rate you up**

You're not missing anything at all. In fact, the last time this issue was on the table, Miros said that he was bringing it up because he saw comments and felt some people were abusing the rep system. So at least Miros can see them if he wants apparently. A PM would be more than sufficient if wanting to keep people from abusing the rep system was all this was about.

This isn't me trying to be a jerk but at this point the hack I have would show reputation in everybody's profile as if you were viewing their contact info. At this point, there is no possible addition of a report feature, no way to really start it from this point forward. The option right now and question I want answered is "Do you want reputation viewable to everybody on QCDN or no?"

Answer the question. Don't tell me I don't need to be in people's business. You have yet to stop making personal attacks on my character and say why this would not be a viable solution for the things I've said. There's being vocal, and there's harassing. Your posts are targetted at my character, and frankly are NOT productive discussion.

Well that was pretty much what was agreed on the last time. As far as I'm aware, Admins can view them, but global mods cannot. I wouldn't mind having Make or Aud pop in and verify me on that. And that is all it takes is someone to PM us and say "Hey, sup, can you check my reputation comments? Person X seems to be abusing it and harassing me."

It has happened after the last poll so it has worked.

I'm not getting into this with you because I'm not going to be baited into a discussion you're making about yourself. In my post I didn't even mention you. I stated facts about the last time this was up for discussion and reiterated my initial feeling on the subject. Nowhere did I accuse anyone of anything and nowhere did I attack you. in your last post, you tried to make this about you. And I responded to that. I hate to deflate you, but I'm responding to the issue at hand... THIS ISN'T ABOUT YOU. Clearer?

I'll address what you said... ONCE AGAIN although I already did more than once.... Miros can see reputation comments. If you received something you had a problem with, all it would take is a PM to Miros. So he can't make a report feature. How is PMing him to make him aware of an issue any less of a way to bring a problem to his attention to be addressed?

Thank you Jamal and Thank you Miros for bringing this issue up.

I was not completely unaware of the abuse that could potentially occur with rate ups/downs however that being said I was not completely aware of HOW much of an issue it really is.

That being the case, I DO NOT wish everyone to have access to my rep comments, but at the same time YES I would LOVE to have the option of reporting single comments when I find them abusive in any manner.

The Admin, Mods are our highest form of authority, and with that they need to be there for our community when someone is feeling harassed. It is a serious accusation, "harassment", and needs to be handled.

For me: Who cares, we know that rep is just a popularity feature it's nice but it doesn't matter too much but for the fun of it why not.

What if the person could ask permission to view another's rep? Don't think that's been brought up but rep system isn't make or break to me the path it's going.

The option right now and question I want answered is "Do you want reputation viewable to everybody on QCDN or no?"
Simple answer then; no. It's nobody's business what I think of someone's post privately, and especially when it's not worth typing up a private message to say "well-put" or "man, you were a dumbass just now", risking clogging the vB database with tons and tons of PMs.

What Rappa said about the PTBs having the ability to view reputation, and what was suggested about an existing method to "report" abuse of the reputation system is exceptionally sound and logical.

"Do you want reputation viewable to everybody on QCDN or no?"[/b]

No. If someone would like to make their's public, they can screenshot it and post it in their signature. If there is abuse going on, there is a PM function to report it and administrators who can resolve it. Maybe if there were someway to make just the green/red dot and thread show and not the user or commentary, but since there isn't, just no.

No.

No, as per my postings in the previous pages. Thank you.
