I'll go with no myself.

I think forum reputation is dumb and people who really care about it are dumber. Hell, if Wolfskymoon says something good, for a change, I'm not goin' to discredit it because he has piss poor rep and that's exactly what the system calls for. On the other hand, there are a lot of people who have decent rep and spouts a lot of garbage and make tons of useless posts.

The system is obviously a huge internet flaw. The way I see it is this, if you have time to worry about your forum reputation you're wasting time somewhere else. Focus more on your character goals, life, work, school, kids, friends, etc. you know, something that matters maybe just a bit more. Worryin' about whether or not your mornin' paper will make it in time for your breakfast is more important than the issue at hand.

Yeah, I did.

Sure, not everybody with blue dots have done so, but I'm willing to bet an internet dollar that atleast 3/4s have at some point in time. This includes using it as a "quick PM" feature. Hell, after the rating system was implemented, there was a thread specifically for rating up.

Just because you don't hear about it doesn't mean its not still happening. There have been incidents since the famous Jyak/Zerayla thing and thats why I said changes to the rep system have been brought up in discussion.
 
FWIW, not everyone with a high rep has "circle jerk rate ups" going. Some of us just happen to post quality material on a frequent basis! I almost never have the same name on my list twice at any given time, and frequently see names of people I don't even know on there.

On an unrelated note, I find it somewhat amusing that generally every time a topic about the rep system comes up, the exact same people have to come in and post about how much rep doesn't matter and how people who think it do are lame. Who are they trying to convince exactly? It's like I always have to remind people on qcdn... when you have to make it a point to remind people repeatedly how much you don't care about something, that just proves that you do.

Meh, let him rant. I've never posted about rep before and how silly the system is, that I can re-call. Leave it to him though, he might find somethin' I posted about it ten years ago.

Trust me, just as Audino says. There are Rate downs that I could post from Kelyon/Rannoch/ and a few others that would show just as much as what Zerayla posted. It was happening well before and well after I did that.
 
Reporting Rateups/Ratedowns: There is no vBulletin option to this. That said, I've not looked for any plugins or hacks that could do it -- so maybe those do exist.

Displaying Ratedowns: Yea, it could solve the abuse problem, but I am getting a general feeling of content with the system as it is. Hell, I absolutely love where the site is currently and I hope over the coming months we can enjoy this good standard of service.

Displaying Rateups: Well, this too might would fix any circle jerk rating up...but I doubt it. Those that participate in circle jerk rate ups could come up with valid reasons behind their rate ups.

Why this was discussed again: It was discussed again because ideas with decent reasoning behind them should be discussed.

What we're (modmins) going to do about it: I gotta say I am a fan of what we have now. If you are being harassed, you can report it to any of the global mods or miros and I. We can look into things from the backend to see if something needs to be done.

It can probably be coded in just as well, Hell the code already exits for Threads and I think Visitor messages, if not oh well. I would imagine that code could be easily applied, just possibly flooded with "supposed" reports
 
Reported Posts use data from the $postinfo variable in vBulletin.

I can look to see if I can find out how reputation posts (hopefully not an indexed array). Either way, this will be something that may take some time. That and the fact that it only hooks an existing system...

"/vote no" with some feedback about the subject.

Abuse: Positive or negative this can be reported to a modmin as Miros said. A simple review if a person reports abuse or even suspected abuse will resolve the issue. The only thing to take into consideration here is the additional overhead by the administrators and may require additional headcount if the "reports" get out of control.

Privacy: Personally, I think of the reputation system like this (very simply). Positive = I agree with what you posted. Negative = I disagree and/or your post is stupid in my opinion. My actual feelings (positively or negatively) are not on trial here and responding in a thread does nothing but perpetuate an argument or circle jerk rate ups when I can get my point across via a simple "Positive/Negative Feedback" post. I personally put no feeling whatsoever into a reputation system other than pure postcount as I think it drives a very biased audience to either just rate up their friends every post and gang up on people they feel are silly / stupid. However, I also think you should make use of the board options and follow suit for this community. Therefore, who really gives a s* whats posted in your reputation? I believe it should be enforced as private otherwise its on the border of flamebaiting / inviting drama and could be reported just as easily. ^^

Report Function: There are some hacks not publicly released that basically allow a report feature to be added to any page. However, they do utilize the universal variable for assigning the report. Since the reputation system (I assume not knowing how vBulletin works) probably utilizes an array that is built at the time the page is rendered, this would pose an interesting code issue. However, I think you could develop a button for the whole page and just allow for an easier "omgcheckoutmystalkerratedowns" button. (I can look into building the code for report "per rep" if its really that big of a deal. I have a copy of vB3.5 around here somewhere and would just need the rep hack you use)

No they should not be public.

If the comments made are harassment to some, they can notify a Mod via PM.
