Character name : Xalioniaf!

first job leveled to 37: I think Bard?
Name origin? : Oh man, I don't even know anymore. I think I first used it in a small game called Quest Online (<- that's a link! Go back in time!), which was a game made by Timboman, a rather prominent user on BZ Power at the time. I'm sure there was some logic behind it before, but I don't even know anymore.
First friend(s) you made in game? : Technically, my first friend was Naotakun, since he's a RL friend. But since he was a hot shit level 75 bard in CelestialKnights, I guess my first friends were the fine folks in the TeamZero linkshell.
First linkshell? : I don't remember the name (I think it might've been AngelicLayer?), but it was a linkshell run by a character named Charlemagne. I remember because I met one friend there, and also because after my first day Charlemagne mysteriously disappeared.
First monster you killed? : A rarab, of course!
First in game death? (how did you die) : Aggro by a Yagudo, of course!
What zone did you like the most? : Definitely Batallia Downs during the Open Market days. Being able to check all these bazaars and see if you could find any deals was like an adventure in and of itself.
What zone did you like the least? : Carpenter's Landing. I jumped on the CoP train rather late, in January 2006, and since it was one of the few open areas I decided to pay visit.
Talk about an incredibly disappointing zone.
What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : Malboros! Oh man running into one on my way to Jeuno for the first time almost made me jump. Thank goodness I was far enough to avoid aggro.
What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : The adventure that ended with this:

Sea Horror spawned on my very first boat ride. Not cool.
What was your first party experience like? : Pretty standard, I guess. I melee'd as a red mage, which probably wasn't so hot. I obviously didn't care then!
Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : When the update with Brenner came out, definitely. My linkshell and another went in and had a big battle and a gay old time. It was fantastic.
When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : When I got pulled into Morion Gaol for a crime I'm totally innocent of!

How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : None! A fact I'm still fairly proud of. I went the Bastok route. There were no dense forests, and there wasn't a disgustingly-large zone to trudge through.
What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : I joined in October 2005, right smack dab in the middle of the Halloween event. Lots of wasted noob money on sweets.
What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : Hit level 10 and make the journey really begin!
First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : This.

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : Magicked Skull. :|

Name origin? : Random name generator gave me something close, i deleted a few letters and added one, and got thelona, and thought it had a good ring to it, been using the name thelona in mmo's ever since.

First monster you killed? : think it was a mandragora

First in game death? (how did you die) : those damn yagudos!

First linkshell? : can't remember first LS, but it broke up and i ended up going with a good number of the refugees to Reverence, and ended up making great friends with Ecator, rizla, Ose,, asanarama, nakona, Antra, Thoopa, malfane, Farnham, Deadra and ofcourse Chrisaga, Hornless, Tristam, and Stine(glomp!!) Never met such a group of helpfull friendly people in an mmo since. nothings seemed to live up to the old reverence days.

What zone did you like the most? : I really really liked sanctuary of Zi'tah, great music great feel, liked the mobs.

What zone did you like the least? : anything around bastok, gustaburgs were just plain ugly.

What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : the first time i saw a goubbe i nearly wet myself, then it ate me XD

What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : when I was lvl 11, me and a buddy of mine that was the same lvl got the bright idea that we could make it to jeuno,

It was no easy task, once we got to pashow we knew we were in trouble, a quadav saw my buddy and was coming after use and i just happen to cast bind in the nick of time and it stuck, we high tailed it to zone end and were standing in rollenberry at lvl 11, and very scared XD.

a nice JP drk in full AF gear,(we thought he looked awesome, and he droped our jaws by casting guillotine on a goubbe) helped us navigate our way the rest of the way to jeuno, he was impressed that we had even made it to rollenberry at lvl 11.

was a true adventure, we felt like we had barley made it there by the skin of our teeth, and was a real sense of accomplishment knowing we made it somewhere, someone our lvl wasn't even supposed to be.

What was your first party experience like? : buburimu peninsula was my first party, saw lots of cool goblins and skeles that could eat my face solo.

Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : the trip to jeuno at lvl 11

When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : can remember seeing a GM ingame in my noob days =(

How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : we made it with 0 death at lvl 11 XD

What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : the twinkling treant was ingame for the first Christmas event when i started, twinkling treant was awesome

What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : Unlocking dragoon.

First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : i remember wearing lizard leather gear on my, yes, completely melee, rdm, till the 30's rofl, must have looked like such a noob. I was so gunghoo aboug getting to 30 to unlock drg i didnt care what my gear looked like on rdm XD

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : air ship quest definitely, took what seemed like forever, but felt like such a boss when it was finally compleat and i was flying to khazam for the first time.

Name origin?: Rather obscure figure in Norse mythology that I've been using as a screen name for a loooooong time.

First friend(s) you made in game?: Purely in-game? Probably EquinoxDMS

First linkshell? : Followers of Cuteness, but I wasn't in it all that long.

First monster you killed? : A worm!

First in game death? (how did you die) : A lizard. Stupid Plaguebreath. The Pyrrhic victory of all reptiles; you kill them, their poison kills you a few seconds later.

What zone did you like the most? : Sanctuary of Zi-Tah. I loved the trees, the music, all of it.

What zone did you like the least? : Ifrit's Cauldron. The map sucks, there are those stupid walls of fire, and some people made me go through that zone multiple times.

What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : Those fucking Bogies in Valkurm Dunes. I still wonder what the fuck SE was thinking... "Oh hey guys, I have this great idea! Let's take what will probably be the most popular partying zone for levels 10-20 and have monsters that are 5-10 levels higher than anything else in the zone spawn at night! Oh, and make them spawn right in areas where people camp, and give them blood aggro! It's brilliant!"

What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : Probably running to Jeuno for the first time. I caught aggro from this Quadav at the start of the zone, and it chased me literally all the way to Jeuno. But it was a WHM or some such, so it stopped to cast every few minutes, and by the time we got to the city, it was so far behind it took a few minutes to catch up, by which point I'd figured that it had lost interest... right up until the part where it started smacking me in the face. I almost died right outside the city, lol.

What was your first party experience like? : Killing lizards in Valkurm... and good lord it was crowded.

Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : Hard to say, lol. I don't really recall how far I got in the first few months; there are a lot of good memories from my early days, but the specifics elude me somewhat, since my time sense is fairly rudimentary.

When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : It was at one of the king camps, I think. Someone was being watched because of hacking concerns, and a GM just kinda popped in out of nowhere and waved lol. Guess he wanted to make sure people played fair.

How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : You mean, in the process of running to Jeuno? I actually don't think I died at all that first trip. Came close, as I mentioned, but not quite close enough.

What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : First one I can recall was Summerfest 2004. And I thought it was awesome, the test-of-courage minigame where they dumped you in a high-level zone and you had to find something or someone, typically with no map, but with a permanent sneak/invis. I died a few times after I zoned out by accident into hostile aggro around Ifrit's Cauldron, lol.

What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : Getting to Valkurm Dunes? Honestly, I don't remember lol.

First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : Warrior Belt +1. I still have it. <3

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : Rank 3 mission for Bastok.

Edit: It's moderately irritating that almost all my old screenshots are locked away on my old Win98 machine, lol. That's on purpose, of course, but still. Moderately irritating.

Name origin? : I seriously thought I'd only play for a month so I used my real name and shortened to Misi because I knew people would Call me Miss if it was more then 4 letters. Also kept in mind I was going to level BLM and liked the repeating vowels more because it reminded me of "Vivi" and "Lulu" Who are also black mages.

First friend(s) you made in game? : Excluding people I started the game with -- Jimera, Miros and Blahman

First linkshell? : Quadav Fodder that turned into JenovasWittness way before the VG cats jokes.

First monster you killed? : Bee in gustaberg!

First in game death? (how did you die) : Twinkling.. Treant. Christmas 2003. that bastard. Miraculously my first in game death was caught by someone else's senic screenshot. adding insult to injury. And said person was standing INFRONT of me. and didn't die. I vowed to level blm fully that day and blow it up. but they have not brought it back for me to do so. Dreams Shattered!

What zone did you like the most? : Konschtat Highlands

What zone did you like the least? : Palborough Mines

What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : Bogys. 20.00 struck the fear of god into you.

What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : climbing the top of vomp hill in gustaburg.

What was your first party experience like? : XP party with Garvin, Kaijin, Rightfullking and Koujiro in Palborough Mines. Turtle train for teh homepoint!

Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : You used to be able to climb the "hill" behind the homepoint npc in Valkrum. Party Seeking people tried in vain to do so to get away from gobby trains. I think we spent days there, and always screaming HILL! and people were amazed we got up there somehow and kept trying to join us. Close Second was seeing a Japanese Elvaan RDM/NIN in full AF for the first time(named Nazan) who raised a party member who died from an elemental. And then he traded carnations to everyone after that. We were in awe of him and were his groupies first year we played. Everything was slain in name of Nazan.

When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : One trying to unstick a player who got trapped in the floorboards near kazham AH.

How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : Thankfully had someone to sneak and invis me so I lived!

What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : Starlight Festival 2003.


What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : Buying my spells and maps! Slightly offended that spells were not auto-learned and I had to buy them.

First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : level 20 black cloak, that wasn't black at all and I was disappointed.

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : The holy crest:unlocking dragoon job class. walking back to bastok with my pet wyvern, unknowing players yelling that a monster was chasing me.

First linkshell? : I honestly don't recall ... The first name of my many linkshells I can remember is Divinity.
First monster you killed? : One of the rabbits in Ronfaure.
First in game death? (how did you die) : Vs. a goblin no doubt.
What zone did you like the most? : Al'Taieu and Alzadaal Undersea Ruins were both beautiful zones, I wish there were more like them ... Arrapago Reef had the most fitting music ... Oddly enough the promyvion zones were probably my favorite, as they had very interesting visuals as well as very fitting music - Vahzl if I had to pick one.
What zone did you like the least? : Grand Palace of Hu'Xzoi for being an insufferable maze.
What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : The goblins with the helmets (not the ones with the masks). Those things has some kind of eagle vision :O
What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : Probably COP 2-3. Huge alliance of people, epic battles, and so much death.
What was your first party experience like? : Disappointing ...
Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : Seeing somebody get chased by a worm (back when there was that bug).
When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : I called one, but don't remember the exact circumstances as to why.
How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : Never died, I had an excellent escort.
What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : The one that happens in December.
What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : I had no idea what I was doing, so probably figuring it all out - I do recall really wanting to figure out how to leave the ronfaure area.
First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : Some low level staff. I kept using staves on BLM (pre elementals) until a very kind player told me I was doing it wrong and gave me a bunch of mage stuff. Might have been Kajimaru.
What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : Might have been level 40 ... but CoP 2-5 pre-gimping. I was up until 3 am getting that done, and it was an amazing feeling finally being finished with it.

What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : My trip to Jeuno, I was 'taken' there at lvl 5, then left stranded for 3 days... nice trick eh
What was your first party experience like? : I don't remember, I was probably ridiculously nervous about my performance..
Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : honestly, I held and unofficial wedding ceremony for 2 ingame couples, speech and all written and spoken by me. I STILL have my write out.
When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : I didn't see a GM til like year 2, if I did, I wasn't aware.
How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : Yeah I managed the trip with no issues, followed instructions and it was smooth sailing.
What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : Christmas. I remember how in awe I was over the decorations around Sandy. I spent hours just hanging out.
What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : I had no goals in mind. I was learning and trying not to get lost.
First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : I don't remember the items, I do remember the pride I felt lol
What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : I don't feel like I really accomplished anything in FFXI. But regardless of my casual gaming, I had a blast while it lasted. ACTUALLY, I did get my full RSE... the first set.. that I was quite proud of. >.>;

Race chosen: Mithra (Before the game was even released I knew that I wanted to be a kitty)

Name origin? : My sister game me the nickname Stine in rl. I guess Christine was too long. lol
First friend(s) you made in game? : I made my rl friends Ose and Pharah join our server when the game launched but my first friends that I made included Reynard and Mistaya.
First linkshell? : I can't remember the first few but the one that was my home for a long time was Reverence with Ecator, Thelona (glomps!) and many of the people Thelona mentioned. lol Gobtrain and eventually JamminTunes were two of my linkshells as well.
First monster you killed? : A mandy
First in game death? (how did you die) : I think a mandy got me back. lol Might have been Tom Tit Tat.
What zone did you like the most? : There's a lot that I loved but I think overall Windurst was my favorite. Beautiful city.
What zone did you like the least? : the dunes especially when there were gob trains.
What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : The Sea Horror!
What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : I think I was level 30 and I went over to Sand'Oria to pick up my brother's character and then Bastok to pick up my ex-boyfriend's character so they could come to Windy and join me. Chrisaga ended up meeting me in the dunes. I think he was level 10 running through there without any protection. lol
What was your first party experience like? : I think we had two whms and some warriors. We had no clue what we were doing but we had a blast.
Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : Just having fun in general. I did tell Ose that he should use a shield that we found on his MNK. lol
When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : I think years after I started in Jueno.
How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : I don't know. I was pretty accident proned. lol
What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : Halloween 2003. I wanted a hat so bad but didn't figure out how to get it. Got one the next year.
What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : Unlocking SMN.
First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : pants!
What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : I think the subjob items.

Name origin? : Sister came up with it at random when I was trying to think of character names in EQOA on the PS2. The first Myrid was actually a wood elf druid. =/

First friend(s) you made in game? : Well, I met Jimera, Blahman, Miros, etc long before even starting the game. Honestly don't remember who was first from totally in-game... Maybe Iman? JP guy that helped our LS out a ton.

First linkshell? : EyesOfTheStorm

First monster you killed? : Tiny Mandragora. This one in fact:

First in game death? (how did you die) : Crawler immediately before trying to kill the Tiny Mandragora (Blahman said I could take it, dirty liar). I died a lot early on though, being a Taru THF... for example, take a close look at the combat log here...

What zone did you like the most? : Selbina/Mhaura Ferry (early) - Misareaux Coast (later, after CoP)

What zone did you like the least? : Selbina/Mhaura Ferry (early) - Crawler's Nest (later, in midlevels... green light always gave me headaches)

What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : Sea Horror

What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : Blahman, who imported, took me from Windy to Bastok to Sandy and then back again the next day, as a level 7 thief. Reason? I couldn't find any good daggers in Windy for my THF. Sea Horror spawned on top of me on the ferry and oneshotted me while Blahman ran away. A Taru RDM in AF armor tractored then raised me. I was in awe.
But it turns out I didn't find any daggers in the other two cities either... come to find out all low level daggers suck...

What was your first party experience like? : Well uh, duoed with Miros on his white mage at like level 3 or so. We realized exp sucked that way and he dropped party and powerleveled me ;-; Beyond that and my adventure above, I may have had one crappy dunes party on subless THF. Before I even got my subjob I switched to rdm main and realized omg this is so much easier... and took that up first.

Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : With Miros and Argerio in the Horutoto basement at level 15 or so. We aggroed some T'ish beetles, going too far trying to do some Windy mission or another. Argerio (WAR) and Miros (WHM) both died, I survived with like 10hp until our resident LS high-level WHM came and rescued us and showed us the way - Madonna, a JP player.

When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : Maybe a year or two in saving someone stuck under the deck panels in Kazham.

How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : Maybe once. Don't remember exactly, I might have had a high level escort though.

What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : Halloween 2003. But I was too poor at the time to even afford the cheapest sweets, so the first one that really counted was probably Twinkling Treant.

What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? : Enjoy the game honestly. I wanted to be a lol thf/blm before I knew how the game worked, and in a way I accomplished what I thought that would have been like by switching to rdm. Kind of.

First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? : A pair of bronze subligar. And with the low texture/screen resolution I played with at the time - and stubby Taru legs - it was a while before I could tell what they really looked like...

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : Not really for a quest, but killed a Battering Ram as a 20 rdm on the way to Jeuno and felt like king of the world. Quests, strictly speaking... well, I was beyond 37 at the time I believe, but I finished the first three Promys before they were made easier..! Never did do eco-warrior.

first job leveled to 37: It was THIEF! I remember seeing Xali's leather armor!
Name origin? : The South Park episode where Cartman goes to Juvey. He sneaks in the plastic toy for his cellmate to find a way to get out of Juvey.
First friend(s) you made in game? : I suppose that's technically my brother, Wimpy.
First linkshell? : I don't even remember really.
First monster you killed? : I think it was a wasp.
First in game death? (how did you die) : To a worm that aggro'd me that got two stone casts off.
What zone did you like the most? : I really liked Sky.
What zone did you like the least? : the Windurst starting zones, or the level 20 zone since at night time you couldn't do much with out a PL.
What monster absolutely terrified you as a noob? : The high level ram in Highlands after a maintenance I ran into him, also Quadavs.
What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? : Soloing as Monk in Dunes on lizards just trying to level subjob for Warrior.
What was your first party experience like? : I think it was a PL in Dunes.
Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : Goblin Bombs in the jungles, and trying to unlock the jungles.
When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : I don't think I ever saw a GM.
How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? : I had an escort so I didn't die.
What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? : The Christmas event. I really miss XI holidays because they really did things over-the-top compared to WoW. It was just really pretty and felt like it was suppose to be a holiday.

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : Dragon fight for the mission with people my level as Monk and tearing aggro off the tank with 100 fists and Air-pass with escorts at 35

I remember MPK trains in Garlaige. Those were awesome parties especially if you were training them from the basement. Trains in Dunes were awesome too. I wish trains stayed in XI that would have been awesome shit.

What did you consider to be your first official "adventure" ? :The boat ride to the Dunes... I was with Koszla and he was telling me we should fight this crab. I was kinda against it because every mob scarred the shit out of me for some reason. Needless to say he forces me to fight it with him and we do so... Then a mother fucking sea horror spawns and I literally scream. Meanwhile Koszla is recovering from temporary deafness he aggros the horror while we try to get away. I run into the top deck to hide and all I see is Koszla running back and fourth with a tiny piss ass crab chasing him and a giant sea horror following that. He's just yelling at me to help and I'm just screaming in utter fear. He dies and the horror runs up to the deck. It gets it's big old ugly face all up in my space and I'm almost crying with laughter and fear from the incident and then black screen. ZONED! I was safe and had to shout in the dunes to get poor Koszla a raise haha.

What was your first party experience like? :It was the dunes... And I never made it to them. I went to go grab a drink and they all ran off without me. It was my first time in the dunes and I didn't even know what aggro'd and what didn't. I was avoiding everything I could because I didn't know any better. I died 4 times trying to get to that damm party pass the tunnel. I ended up saying "fuck it, I'm going to never party ever and just solo." it was my first hissy fit of many to come haha.

Best memory within your first few months of playing the game? : Koszla teaching me everything. I had a level 14 red mage with no sub job teaching me all he knew. Omg, the stupid shit we used to do until people set us straight haha. I remember Kenchion teaching me a lot and so did Lyrai. I remember Lyrai buying me a bunch of gear and helping me become half decent...

When was the first time you saw a GM and where? : I think when that teleport bot in lower Jeuno got gm called on one time. He spawned and I remember seeing a shout saying something like "GM OUTSIDE THE MOG HOUSE OMSFDGHF" and I had never been so excited haha.

How many times did you die (if at all) before getting to Jeuno to do the chocobo quest? :Only once, got a raise so it wasn't too bad actually.

What was your first Vana'diel holiday event that you experienced? robably the summer event... That god damm music...

What goal were you set on accomplishing the first week that you started? :I didn't really have any. I just wanted to explore and level up my jobs. That was the fun bit, not knowing about goals and just doing shit you felt like doing.

First noobish item you purchased with your hard earned gil? :Full cotton gear from an NPC... Someone was quitting and they gave me like 100K. I didn't even know them but was so thankful. I pretty much wasted that 100K on full cotton gear from a windy NPC. It was only like 2K a piece from the Jeuno AH haha.

What quest do you remember being a pain, that you then finished and felt like a bad ass? (level 37 and under) : Air ship pass... Oh my god. I died so much.

I really enjoyed my static with Eldred (Littletoughguy). He was a DRG and I was a PLD so he always got invites because everyone always needed a tank. We went all the way from level 10 - 75 with each other. I didn't ding 75 with him as he went on a 2 week holiday when we got to 74 lol. I got 75 then when he got back I made sure I was with him when he got 75. I don't have many screenshots of when I was a noob because I've been through like 3 PCs since then. But here is some old memories...

Xali, do you remember Azura Knights? I remember you explaining to me what AoE was... I was soloing on red mage and I though diaga was just stronger than dia. And I was getting mad running out to the canyon casting it and "mobs just not liking me (this was my legit reason)". And you probably face palmed when you found out what the fuck I was doing haha.

FFXI was fun. I loved it. Made some of my closest friends from that game. Met one in real life and I'm seeing Hitaru come October when he comes back to England.
Currently playing FFXIV again and I have been for about 2 weeks. It's a lot better and the next update is meant to be adding Chocobos and airships. It's coming along nicely. We might have a MMO to migrate to one day guys... Maybe...

What was your first party experience like?: It sucked but I'm sure everyone's did. We literally just kept dying and home pointing and going back to camp just to die again. My first taste of deleveling *sigh*

I used to think everyone in it was freaking awesome because they were higher level than me but honestly, they weren't that amazing now that I look back on it. I mean, they were very cool people because gear wise, they were horrible for a long time lol.
