I have the ice and dark staff currently. I have read that the other elemental staves give a 10% damage increase on the corresponding spell (i.e. Thunder staff would increase the thunder spell's dmg by 10%). I have heard a lot of tests done that seem to prove the existance of the hidden effect, but the tests were always done on the mobs outside the starting towns. I was wondering if anyone has tested this in an XP situation. It seems to me that losing 10 pts off of your elemental magic skill because you switched from the ice staff, would cause you spells to be resisted more, meaning you'd get a 10% bonus on a resisted spell (WHOOP-DEE-DO!!).

Anyway, I was going to ask this on Alla, but I know Im not going to get an intelligent response, so if anyone here has used this, please share your experiences with me.

I've heard that too. I have Ice and Dark, and I plan on getting the rest for the far off day when I try and level summoner. I just think that having less chance of a resist would be better than a bonus. I guess its something each player has to weigh.

Hey ham! Did you have anyluck finding your davoi coffer key? We were ther for 3 hours and didnt get a thing.

yeah they add that little extra damage, but i'm not to much into that kinda thing. I got an ice staff (thats not mine) and a dark staff (costed 550k).
I just don't got the inventory space to hold 7 elemental staves.
As for using the Ice staff as a main, I don't. Ill use it for the occasional ice spell which would usually make the ice spell do as much (if not more) than its corresponding tier thunder spell. I like my mythic wand... it's fast... lets me equip a shield..... it's ugly..... but i like the damage.
Oh but don't follow my gimp path. Follow whatever path you choose. The path where you have money.... or the path where you where level1 cuffs until you're level 53 and a level20 black neckerchief to 75.

I have the Ice, Dark, Thunder and Fire staves...

I have swap-gear macros on all my spells depending on what element I'm using (Dark for Drain, Stun, Gravity, Aspir, Sleep, Fire for Burn, and Firaga II when I level, Thunder for Shock, Thunder spells, Ice for basically everything else) and it works out wonderful.

It is rather annoying to see my character blink in and out, in and out, but the effects given by the +10% damage are rather nice, and if I'm using a spell the mob's weak to (which BLMs really should do anyway, not just their strongest spell), the +10 elemental magic skill shouldn't be too big of a factor from the Ice Staff unless you're fighting IT++++, in which case I'd resort to that as my main.

Right now, the staves are -really- cheap as to what I've seen in the past. Thunders go for about 90k! Ice go for 40k (there ya go Drew!), and the rest are still in the mid 100's and low 200's. The Mythic Wand I imagine is also very effective at higher levels, when most of the stuff you fight, as I understand, it Low IT and VT or so, in which case elemental skill doesn't come into play as much and from what I've heard, it's not a bad idea to sell out on INT yet again as is supported pre-51.

Sorry, the little fledgling BLM coming in here and giving my 2 gil to you powerhouses... Alanon and Drew and Ham ; ; /bow

No not at all Rune. You have the experience with the staves that Im looking for!! So you are saying that you do actually see the difference on xp mobs and dont have a problem with resists? Nice. I'm getting to the point where I should be able to make my own soon (currently 64 woodworking) so Im going to try it out!

Im still using the black neckerchief!

Not until you have access to Elemental Torque. The HQ versions are worth it, I love them. The +15% damage really makes a different when you can MB for 1.4k damage.

I'd recommend you get the HQ in this order:
Ice > Wind/Thunder > Fire > Water/Earth. But by the time your XP PT can start to make Light/Dark chain, I'd say you should have at least a set of normal Elemental Staffs.

I havent gotten my Davoi coffer key yet ; ;

But if you wanna team up some time this weekend, just give me a call.

Oh, and I opened the necropolis coffer this morning ^^ so now i just have to hit 56 to wear my new wizard's tonban ^^

p.s. It all really depends on what you want to do. I would never tell someone they absolutley need a piece of equipment. I'd certainly reccomend things that have worked for me, but I wouldnt go around saying so-and-so is a bad player for not having the best gear out there.

Gosh, no one really addressed your questions. People keep telling you that it will give you that extra punch to our spell's damage. What they are leaving out, is the staves will also improve the accuracy of the spells corresponding to their elements.

With the right staves, not only will your spell do more damage, they will also land more often without resistance.

P.S. Don't use the Ice staff for wind base spells. You'll do LESS damage. In other words. The Ice staff is not a catch all staff for your magic spells.
