Ranger Invites... non-existant?!

I had more fun leveling in the old Ranger days. Didn't have to prance around finding the "sweet spot". It's a pathetic job now compared to a year and a half ago. The whole "balance" thing is bullshit, because everyone moved to warrior or black mage and are doing the same exact fuckin thing we used to do. Now to do even one weaponskill that's as good as back then, I have to sub warrior, eat attack food, use Flashy Shot and get ready to die. How fuckin pathetic. I knew the job was too strong from the first cannon party I ever participated in and I knew there would be some kind of nerf but that nerf and every update since then has been a slap in the face.
tell that to the dragoons.

Except Dragoons were never all the great. They were only above average until the TP nerf or whatever it was that killed their TP gain with /SAM.

When you got tp for every hit of penta thrust, yeah, drg owned you.

They really did not kill rng that bad. Yes you cant melee now, but heck ra atk give more tp per hit then waepon per hit anyway. All they did is actually make you work to get good dmg just like every other job out there. Although they do need to tweak the ra acc on ws alittle. Ive done rng cannon pre expansion post nerf and they still very powerful and can do exp per hour almost as good as a war cannon. Now they made ra acc and ra ack actually mean something. It was never a nerf it was a adjustment to get rng to play like it was attended. These thing go in phases next there going nerf blunt weapons so mobs have more resistance to it or /nin duel wield. Ranger was the reason for adjustment, you abuse the power the power get taken away.

I would have to aggree. I never played before the "nerf".. but keep impressing myself with my damage...

Thanks to everyone who put some useful advice/encouraging words in here^^

I hope to see you guys aroun in game sometime^^

when the ranger nerf happened, it didn't matter what food or gear you used. If you stood in dmg sweetspot, your acc sucked. if you stood in acc sweetspot, you dmg sucked. It didn't matter what level the mobs were either.

No job has ever been changed like that. TP nerfed was done for MNKs and Asuran Fists. It wasn't targeted at DRG, but MNK remained a strong job even without the TP, and DRG was just DRG after.

That makes no damn sense. Maybe in your world constant ranged attacks with occasional melee hits is less TP than just one ranged attack but not here.

Right, because auto-attack is soooo taxing.

I call bullshit. I'd ask you to prove it but you disapprove of parsers so I'm guessing you disapprove of EXPwatch.

Shows me you haven't the slightest fuckin clue about what you're talking about.

Like Meeze said, that was done for Monks using Relic Knuckles, and let them do damn Asuran Fists almost back to back. Drg just got taken away with the wave by mistake and only a handful of people cared.

Don't get me wrong, the job is still fun and has potential, but the ammo prices and getting the best gear just isn't worth it when cannon jobs with average gear can keep up or damn near pass me.

It was because of 999 Delay Relic Weapons, not because of JobX.

the low 50's in general are a real pain for any job. I got a buddy who's had a level 50 BLM for like 2 months, waiting to use his staves. I personally had to make my own parties just to have to collapse them due to a lack of tanks, or a healer, or any other "One piece missing" including DD jobs. However, once you get moving, you usually hit 60 and beyond really quickly. Just go do somethign productive while you seek, I think I farmed all my teleport scrolls and area maps during that time before I got hooked into a group my first time through, or start fishing, it's actually kinda amusing once you get the hang of it you dont' have to sit in Jeuno or Aht Urgan all day waitign for an invite, there's lots of stuff to do. Hell, even leveling another job to 50 and finding a stable group of people on another job is good, and you can swap out to your Rng at 50.

Grab some rangers and dragoons and go rape some bats in KRT.

Ranger sucks. It's not that the damage is bad or that the accuracy sucks. It's needing to stand a distance from mobs which screws it out the most in my opinion. A ranger who can do their best damage is also a ranger screwing screwing me out of my damage. If I set up a SC with a ranger and any decent ranger will pull hate after the weaponskill thus fucking over the SC. I can't WS a moving mob. I either cannot close the SC or lose my TP. Even in a cannon setup, a ranger that pulls hate will eventually cost me lost TP when I unknowingly weaponskill directly after. Don't get me wrong, Ranger is still a great job for damage and are still good for kited mobs, but when in experience, if they perform their best, they can worsen others' performances.

Ive Been deling alot more with Ranged Weapons since ive been Leveling SAM and Ranger what are the optimal ranges for Longbows and Guns? and for shits and giggles lets say boomerangs too?

Longbows Optimal Range= ?
Guns Optimal Range = ?
Boomerang Optimal Range = ?

Throwing is point blank and you should only really be using throwing on thief and ninja, but it would be easier to level on ranger because of gear, traits and abilities. I am not sure of Marksmanship or Archery.

As far as skillchains.. I participate in many, you do, however, have to coordinate a little better with your party for timing... for instance.. once TP is up on participating players.. PLD (if available) flashes, and vokes, then I ws and run at the mob, then the closer follows. we have 3 seconds from teh time I let mine go (which seems to be plenty of time...)

As for hurting the rest of the party, I don't see that from my experience... I manage my damage output, and take a short break hear and there to allow the tank(s) to keep enough hate. If I go all out, no matter the tank, I will have the mob chasing me all over the field. Just takes a little bit of finesse.

I can;t tell you actual distance, but with
Long Bow: you want the mob approx 75-80% of the distance from the center of your radar to the edge of /ra range

Gun: about one step outside of main weapon range.

Xbow: ... depends on ammo... Additional effects like Holy seem to be more effective at gun range, but this lowers base damage. whereas say Mythril Bolts are more effective at about 50% distance from the center of radar to the edge of /ra range. Hope this helps.. I might not have the best explanation.. but I have messed with positioning.. alot..

As THF, if I am participating in a SC, I want to do a full SATA+WS on the mob to plant hate firmly and to get the most damage out of the SC (SC damage is based mainly on the final WS damage in my experience, so making it higher means the SC is higher). A full SATA means the mob must be turned and a ranger simply cannot do that anymore without it running away from the tank and me. THF+RNG used to be a great party setup. Toss in a BRD/RDM, WHM, BLM and tank, then you'd have a great party, but that's long since been nerfed for that very reason.

If you need to hold back, it means you are limiting your damage. That's not something I'd want or expect from a party member. No matter how hard you try as a tank, someone is always there who can rip hate off you, even a RNG and for ranger, pulling hate at a distance is just a killer. Perhaps if Bind was a stronger spell, then it could be avoided by planting a mob in a stationary position, but then I'd think that would be overpowering the spell in a lot of scenarios (kited mobs, etc.). Any time a mob has to move around, whether it be because a mage pulled hate, a ranger, someone trying to run from the mob, or whatever, it's bad for all melee simply because moving mobs negate any possible damage (ironically, when I run away from mobs they can still hit me though) and in my opinion, the only way to know you are doing good damage is to pull hate, something a RNG should not do anymore without hurting the damage of other players.

when i use my bow (Selene's Bow), the max range i stand at can vary greatly depending on the moon phase, food, and EQ

Well then your party leader has no idea what they are doing or you have no idea what you are doing, or the people you party with have no idea what they are doing. THF+RNG is still a deadly combo and I was in that setup just the other day in KRT doing 600+ SATAVB off of a RNGs SW. The only thing you need now to do it is a good stunner. I know I'm asking for alot when I say that the party needs to work together, but RNG+THF with a DRK/BLM that knows what stun is for is still just a viscious as it was before the range adjustment.

Yes cause a MNK or WAR really has to "work" after pressing Attack and wait for 100TP to press WS macro. And don't mention Utsu macros, that's just too much work.... /sarcasm off.

Edit: Sorry that was replied to, should have kept reading.

thats it!!! Have the BLM stun instead of MB. gtfo lol.

Back in the days slugwinder was like voke, and the mob turned instantly for a THF. Now it's marginal.
