i hit 51 rdm few days ago. never rly soloed much, i tryed to solo a easy prey, there find, Decents are a lil tough. how do rdm solo, when do u cans stoneskin-blink etc. lol yea ima a noob when it comes to this XD

You may be tempted to stoneskin/phalanx yourself, cast an elemental enhancement on your sword, and melee. This is fine for some mobs, and you should be pretty much be able to outlast nearly all easy preys, decent challenges, and perhaps even even matches at 51 this way ... as long as you make good use of refresh and regen. Don't forget Ice Spikes, as well. It'll be slow-going, but you can do it.

For other, tougher, mobs (multiple hits), you'll want to take a more black magey approach. That is to say, sleep, bind, gravity, and nuke.

Also, use Ice Spikes. I'll take that Paralyze effect over the spell any day. Also know that RDM can be done at your level but is much easier as you move closer to 60 and beyond.

Well if your melee'ing them, just completely buff yourself with everything you can. If your daring and have good enchancing skill you can try to blink tank by always trying to have the blink up. But usually use Blink when you need to recast stoneskin or something like that. You can solo T- IT easily by sleep/gravity/nuke/nuke/sleep/ regen/sleep/gravity/nuke nuke nuke. Just need to make sure you don't get pwned in the process.

I see Shock spikes as a waste of MP.. Ice spikes proc a LOT.. Though I use Blaze Spikes because mine do 10-18/hit and that's like a free enspell so I stick to it ^^

Yeah,I prefer paralyze and shock spikes. As for the guy who said to Blink; Hes obviously deranged.

Just buff (protect, shell, stoneskin, phalanx, spikes, haste, en-, refresh)

Debuff (slow, paralyze, blind, bio2, poison II, rasp and drown if subbing blm)

Melee til stoneskin wears, and since its a rather long cast, I bind the mob to back up and rebuff w stoneskin out of striking distance.

Easy Peasy.

If you need to blink tank, sub ninja. keeping the spell up is a waste of mp on vt+ mobs solo. (IMO). Easy vt+ mobs to solo as /blm are those you can aspir ;).

watching your mana is really important. always have refresh on and watch your mana. always try to keep a minimum amount for yourself, sleep/bind/another refresh/stoneskin -> convert.

Get a Kracken Club, use an enspell, and cast stoneskin and phalanx. I will usually only cast stoneskin once per mob.

Get a Kracken Club...
I'm reminded of the old Steve Martin bit, "How to not pay taxes on a million dollars."

It went something like:

"First, get a million dollars!"

o_O

actually, Blink is an extremely effective spell. More effective then most might think. I can solo avatars and SMN AF3 as RDM/BLM/WHM using Blink. It helps a lot, although I wouldn't reccomend it while soloing normal mobs with melee.

Why use ice spikes when you can cast paralyze and use shock spikes for stun?

Ice spikes Paralyse effect procs a lot, way more than the Paralyse spell. It slows the mob a lot more than having the Paralyse spell and the Stun effect from Shock Spikes (which really don't proc that much) on at the same time, and mobs that resist Paralyse, (eg crabs) don't seem to resist the spikes added effect nearly as much.

One of the other things to consider about soloing as a RDM by melleeing is the number of effects you want to use at once. Sure it'd be nice to have all your enfeebles and buffs on at once, but practically, if your recasting too many spells, you don't spend much time swinging. You absolutely need Stoneskin, Phalanx, Refresh, en-something on at all times, and trying to keep much else up (apart from spikes) really eats into your hitting time...

Post 74, subbing NIN though on the right mobs will change this a lot though.

Don't forget Duelist's legs ^^ They causes paralyze/stun more often. Dunno about the proc rate though, seems about the same

I was curious about items with those effects....
Weapons with "additional effect" are junk to a rdm with enspells.. not only is the proc rate TERRIBLE but they don't stack with enspells cast..
What about the weird armors? I've seen Blaze/Ice/Shock Spikes.. and I have seen "Curse"... is that 100% of the time? Would it be overwritten with personal spikes? :/

the Curse kicks in quite a lot... even with only Igqira Weskit it seem to kick in about 25% of the time or more on exp mobs

Didn't see anyone mention Haste when meleeing. i usually will try to keep stoneskin and phalanx up and then spikes, en-spell, and haste cause they cast quick enough to generally not get interrupted. add refresh and your a lean mean rdm killing machine! well maybe not but you get the pic.
