realistic blm improvements

No, it's one of the top melee DDs in EXP.

EXP isn't the game. Either play the job and find out first hand it's many faults, or shut the fuck up about it being "top melee DD." BST, for example, is the top melee for a better portion of the early part of the game. More so now than ever before. Just because you're great at filling pink bars doesn't mean you're great at anything else, or even useful.

WAR, SAM, and THF are your top melee DDs. Why? Well, not only are they good at filling said pink bars. They actually get to hit everything else in the game with their weapons, and not with some oversized glass marble that does pathetic damage every 3 minutes.

Dynamis is now an XPPT? So monk sucks there now too? D:
What about Vrtra? Should people stop bringing monks there because it's just an add PT?
Or Kirin? Should Monks say hell to Kirin because he only gives a small portion of XP?
Or Salvage?

There, I named where monk also shines as a GREAT DD other than a merit party, and I don't even play your job.

Congrats, 4 things.

Here's a fucking trophy.

Dynamis, anyone is useful in. It hardly counts.
OH NOES ADD PT FOR VRTRA FIGHTING EXP MOBS.
Kirin? Jesus Christ, I'd hope to hell MNK could deal great damage to a SMN/BLM. Anyone can. It's just the one time that speed actually isn't a disadvantage.
Salvage - the only.. only reason MNK is great there is because of starting conditions. If they didn't exist, it'd be a backseat job once you get to the boss.

So, how about the remaining majority of the game?

You're right. You don't play the job, so take a hike. People overinflate the usefulness of the job just because of pink bar filling, end of story.

Back on the subject:

Liefe came up with a pretty decent idea. They need mobs that are "epic" exp mobs. Things like Behemoths and Wyrms - with junk loot, ofcourse - that aren't burnable, MP or TP. Things that require a balanced party, that kick out inflated EXP. No unnecessary nerfs or buffs required, as if they did go that route, they'd fuck up other parts of the game for jobs. They simply need monsters that allow a regular party to achieve what cannons are able to pull off. We already have monsters that give increased amounts of exp. Simply apply that code and make it unabusable through some method of cannon-prevention.

The only time you use monks on kirin is when you're going to kill him in a minute. With any other strategy, every other major endgame damage dealer would easily outdamage the monk, so while they can do some damage to kirin, they're so inefficient at it that it'd be better to not use them unless you have to.

They can't make mobs immune to manaburns without giving them so much HP or magic defense that blm becomes useless against them. The only way to make a mob that isn't melee burnable is to give it high defense or nasty TP moves, and you're not going to have much success with the traditional party against them.

Blms don't need more exp spots any more than melee do. There's not enough uber camps to support either on a busy merit day, and both would rather go to an already overcrowded camp than get better exp at an empty camp that doesn't have the uber exp potential.

Because, you know.. it's not like they have code to build up resistance to a type of damage they've taken a huge majority of or anything.

Did they apply that build-up resistance to all mobs, or just NM-style mobs though? I forget.

What resistance? I never really noticed anything change.

95% of the nukes to today's JoL was of the same element.
Worked like a charm from start to end.

What was that "nerf" again?

In Dynamis mnk's are as good as a war. -voke.
You kill Vrtra alot?
Mnk's to Kirin? I'm assuming you're talking melee-burn here, and no, they dont do as much as a war does.
And don't start the whole "they got chi-blast" thing...
Salvage is the one place they really shine.

Other than that, there isn't much room for mnk's sadly.
Because they are true monsters in exp, no doubt, they just dont have a role to fill in 90% of the end-game scene.

BLM Nerfed: Ever try to farm something as a BLM? Example: White Honey. Went out as BLM and watched a RNG take them down in long chains. Why? Because he had ammunition that didn't have a negative impact on his stats (HP, etc.) - all he had to do was equip more ammo. Can't do that on a BLM, where the only weapon you have is MP. I have to rest after Xnumber just to continue. Argument: You could bring ethers, etc. to get that boost, but they don't stack or come in bundles like ammo, so it's still not an equal solution.

You can argue that not all jobs are created equal, nor should they be and I agree. I would be in favor of some changes that would increase the number of mobs that are like puddings: Easy to MP kill, a little tougher to melee. The scale has been tipped too long in favor of melee. If they can't give us some better locations for BLM burns, why not try mob type changes? SE already made certain that RMT could not profit well from burns on puddings. Flan meat is of little value, and so are the crystal drops.

You could then argue that I should go level my RNG (or whatever) if I want to have the same benefits. But the point is that there is an imbalance in some areas of the game and a solution that also keeps some balance in game is a challenge for the developers. I'm pretty sure I won't get my wish, just like all the times I was seeking for a party on BLM only to be reduced to competing for traditional BLM solo spots with all other kinds of jobs.

RNG's often level WW to create their own arrows on the fly. For a few gil, you can make juices for refresh. Combined with auto-refresh from armor pieces, you have more than ample supply to continuously farm. I can't take my WAR out and go solo chain 4-5 on EP, let alone T-VT mobs. I'm completely dependant on others for everything.

Take the imbalance as it comes, use your strengths, negate your weaknesses as much as allowable.

Mnks aren't gimped... i'll parse against any job.

Also what's wrong with chi blasts 1500+ every 3min?

Eor sometimes fails at reading and jumps to post his opinion, but now i read it and i play mnk, and i love it, dynamis, sky, eij, limbus, sea, you name it. Mnk is not useless end game, maybe skaw doesn't do enough events.

Just giving you shit eor!

People need to stop bitching about mnk though seriously, lol. It's fine in most aspects of the game, as a whole.

i know i blathered and whined there, but really the topic was more about blm than monk. in fact, i called the topic realistic blm improvements because i was simply looking to discuss ways of improving blm. if i ever make a monk topic rest assured i will come to the table with a real list of pros and cons. I'm sure this will happen soon.

my complaint is blm works under a lot of tight restrictions, many of which were added to balance out the game in some ways but really don't work out int he long run. for example. AoE farming. in the time a blm can wrangle up a mob and kill them all without being killed (limits the amount and level of mobs drastically) and then rest mp, a melee like say my monk can kill the same amount with less downtime and higher drop rates. my monk/nin can solo a lot of things quite effectively that my blm can't, while blm can solo lots of strange and wonderful stuff. the difference is my blm burns mp doing it, and it doesn't work nearly as well if the mob doesn't have mp to aspir, and my monk burn ninja tools and relies on not being hit (if i take under 300 dmg in 5 minutes i have 0 downtime).
the reason i even mentioned endgame blm role at all was more to emphasize that we are limited by emnity to a very large extent. and more to emphasize that a reduction in mp costs as per my idea would not drastically improve blm for anything but exp and merit continuity, just increase our chain length and exp party versatility.

Treasures in terms of its zones and monsters was largely prejudiced against black mage. i don't know if it was intentional or not but i know melee and specifically rangers and dragoons were given an edge simply in terms of what you kill. i hear lots of griping from people trying to level blm through treasures too, aparently colibris, a promary exp mob for several levels don't go well with blms. yes, they gave us flans which are wicked and wamouras are nice because nobody else kills them but black mages. but that one camp was given to us whereas there are probably 10 other camps where black mages slow the exp because of the mp limitation. the expansion was good to melee and was melee focused. it was nice for soloing and hey, it even made a good camp or two for blms to manaburn. oh, and i do feel obligated to mention, so much emphasis on blms soloing their exp really puts a damper on those camps because your party is competing with 3 other soloing blms killing the same mobs as your party.

i didn't intend to reply to this thread after the first few responses but... well, maintenance and all... got bored.

So take all the Beast and kindred seals you got while meritsoloing and bring along 2 or 3 good blm friends. I think it was shyrra who made money off of almost every stupid melee who couldn't cut it in ODS. This argument is just silly.
