The better programs search for things that may have similarities with known threats, but while it can catch more things the standard programs can't, it can't catch everything.

Even better are ones that keep tabs on what programs try to access things like keyboard input, memory reserved by other programs, other programs, and etc..

Zone Alarm Pro had some of this, it'd warn whenever a program was trying to read keyboard input, or access other processes. Zone Alarm is meant to be mainly a firewall, so I can only assume there are better dedicated programs that watch over this stuff. (I remember a program called process guard, may be worth googling up, make sure to read reviews before installing anything though)

anyone know how to stop all transmits and receive from .cn servers heard someone talking about how he just turn china off.

I'd double check. I remember there was a key logger that modified the registry so that POL would re-ask you your passwords.

They can't endorse brand names aside from Microsoft Windows (duh) -- this is everything that needs to be said about protecting yourself, because they *have* to assume that you browse the internet on the same machine that you are playing FFXI.

So its been 2 days since I sent that stupid document and no email from them. I am dreading the long assed wait for support to harrass them.

Edit: Wow. I read the first page and didn't notice there were more. Then I posted and saw I was on page 10. Sorry if I covered anything that's already been said.

One helpful thing that some people might not have considered is to use a dedicated gaming machine. I know it isn’t financially feasible for everyone, but a $200 pc is adequate for most things that most people do with their computers other than 3D gaming. I haven’t shopped around in a while, but I think $200 is a reasonable estimate. You don’t need another display, just a keyboard/video/mouse (kvm) switch. Get a cheap PC, move all your data to it, reformat your current PC (assuming it’s the better one for gaming) and don’t install *anything* besides full-budget games (I’d guess that many cheap/free games have spyware.), and maybe a firewall. If you don’t use that computer for anything else, it might even be ok to not install anti-virus software. I wouldn’t actually recommend it though, unless someone replies to this thread who is sure about it. As an extra precaution, change your ffxi password when you do this, and don’t use that same password for anything else. I guess a good test of this idea would be to ask if anyone has heard of anyone getting hacked who only plays on a console. If there’s someone who did, I’d want to ask if they used one of their ffxi account names, character names, or passwords on any gaming-related web sites (Hacked sites or not. Once infected, spyware would probably monitor your visits to all major gaming sites.)

Maat was just hacked last night, he was online and he got the message "Connection timed out, POL ID accessed from another terminal" and he can't get back on now.

Damn that sucks. =(
I can't believe they wanted to hack Maat.

I guess Maat did a good job at smacking their @$$es around when it was their time to complete G5. ^_^

Sorry, just thought I might liven up the mood.

All joking aside, it also concerns me that you mentioned getting hacked in this method because last night while I was exping in a lag-free area, I kept getting some intermitant pushes to get disconnected.

Was the same occurring to Maat, and the poof he lost connectivity; then couldn't relog back in? =(

Edit: I wanted to say that overall, I hope SE sorts things out for everyone, and manages to restore your accounts back to normal.

No. He was playing and he didn't just lag out. He was kicked off "User ID was accessed from another terminal"

Meaning someone logged into him from another PC. Having stuff like "COnnection timed out couldnt connect to server" isn't a hacking, its just a lagged out session

Not to mention Ramen's Byine+1 is on AH and all Maat's gear is on AH too I wouldnt doubt if his Hagun is on AH as well.

They need to call this quick, they haven't been server swapped yet and it gonna take a while for that byine+1 to sell...so they should remain on the server for a short period I'd hope.

Anyone know them IRL he posted on my Limbus LS forums and I replied to him dunno if he gonna even look at it and read it as to what I said.

Only reason I update my PC copy is to mess around with altanaview anyway.
I suppose, compared to others, I'm safe. Still sucks that everyone's getting their accounts hacked though. Hope this is resolved soon enough.

keylogger is on my pc. i'm swapping back to my good old ps2 once i find the proper cords.
Those gilsellers bastards have just cut off my campaign access er I mean.. my "WOTG" access.

Another file to look out for. I don't know if this was mentioned already, so if not:

After a a little investigating adam found something called lovefly.dll seems like people in XI and WoW hackings also have this in addition to the smart.ddl in system 32 ( not sure if lovefly.dll is is system 32, but be sure to check your computers for that if you have and have not been hacked. the two files seem to go hand in hand.

a lot of Japanese forums are also talking about the lovefly.dll so it seems they are having the same problems.

Meghan got hacked 06/06 and move to Kujata server. Smart.dll was found on computer. She was running Norton and it didn't pick it up. She then downloaded AVG free because she knew it had to be there. Sure enough she found it. So all you Norton users out there, beware you may not be protected. Also found Trojan winlogon.exe(704) unknown at this time if it had anything do with ffxi hacking.

That 4 from my ls alone that been hacked in last month. 3 in last week. Just because they have not taken your account yet don't think they won't they might have your password already, so if you have not changed it yet you might want to. Also there reports that the ls community is bugged to so be on the look out if you used that recently to. I post this link once before but will post again for the sake that people will follow it and protect there computers. It will get worse before it get better. http://forums.windower.net/index.php?showtopic=11323
