Red Mage Merits, Where to put them?

Well you generally odnt pair a brd with pld.. brd + nin is a standard combo.. Yes a rdm is the "jack of all trades, master of none" ;p still think we should have a minor edge in something

brd was made to debuff and buff
rdm was made to do some blm tasks some whm some buffing and some debuffing lol its a hybrid
are you serious:shok: rdm have a A+ Enfeebling Magic, we are made to Enfeeble. Rdm also has a B+ enhancing while whm have a C enhanceing. Yes we are a hybrid but are job is to debuff and buff. Also as a brd/nin I would love to see you land ichi enfebles anything higher then even match. To top that rdm/brd will get more amount of ticks as brd and we have more mp not to even mension the point that we have a 220 healing magic (if capped), to a brd whoping 114 healing magic (if capped). Im with Calv/Godofdeath you dont play the job GTFO. shaidslyn I know you played rdm/nin you should know that nin Enfeebling will not stick to anything above even match, plus are enfeb better then ninjas teir 1 not sure about teir 2. BRD better then RDM i think not. RDM better then BRD i think not. Both have diffent roles and together they are dinomite.

well, BRD enfeebles stack with RDM and NIN enfeebles, but NIN and RDM do not.

elegy + slow ftw

why thunder Teppo? :\ we aren't BLMs D: it's not potency :P

It's for soloing, and Yes, MB'ing to Light does do +500 dmg. We arent Blm's but we can still do damage.

Now to restate all that was said. The poster of this thread wanted to know what s/he could want to merit in the red mage catagory. Hench, those Convert Merits and Magic Acc. It was already said s/he was going to level Enfeeble, Mp, probly Mind and Other merits along the way.

I really find it funny how so many people get thrown off by the word merits. They instantly think, "Hey merit this," Well, No freakin DUH! That's not what was asked though. His/her was thinking if s/he should put effort in 5/5 convert and where should the last 5 points go to.

I agree Capping convert is a wonderful idea, and in "Roaming parties" I always find myself near empty with MP and one minute left on convert. As for the other five points, I once again say 3 on thunder and 2 on blizzard. Why many may ask? Simply for MB. On my average Light/Dark MB, I do +500 dmg. With what spells? Blizzard and Thunder!!

As for ALL the merits rdm should get, I honestly say get, +8 MP, +3 Mind, +2 Int, +4 eva, +8 Sword, +6 Enfeeble, +2 Element, +4 Spell interuption rate, +4 - emnity, +5 convert, +3 Thunder acc, +2 Blizzard acc. That is what I Think You should do to be a complete Red Mage. If anyone wants to argue, by all means. This is how I think, and I am very sure this is a very well done set up.

Teppo.. how do you figure Magic Accuracy will help with DMG? Makes no sence at all... Personally my goal was all 8 in Enfeebling Magic, cause even when BLM landing a Bind, Silence, Gravity is more important then the damage done. 8/8 on MP 'cause HP is worthless for most jobs cept PLD and even then -Tarutaru being the exception- MP can come a lot more espically with so much HP gear there is. I still say screw convert, as its meaningless as the extra minute won't make a difference one bit. I -personally- had 1000 MP as my RDM and by the time it came to my MP being low, Convert was already ready and been sitting there for awhile. When in a roaming party, your not nuking wasting MP doing MAYBE 500 dmg, as Curing and Dispel will get you a lot more MP use. For RDM specific merits, be WISE to use 5 on Wind and 5 on Ice as I've stated before they help with there specific enfeebles. To prove my point on this, with my max Enfeebling merits and gear and 3 Wind Magic Accuracy at the time, I was able to silence Tiamat for a short time, and believe me him not casting Firaga III for that time can be a life saver for the time. Gravity also helps when fighting Kirin and Bind when fighting Suzaku -spelling and I believe thats the right one, the one who does Hundred Fists as its 2 hr- in case a RNG screws up and prematures Shadowbind. I was leveling Dagger as my weapon 'cause I was a THF as well so yea but thats just personal preferences. Please Teppo, just slap yourself a few times for the - enmity comment. NOONE should ever + or - enmity as it will screw with other jobs you level. I agree Spell Interuption is a good one as it helps in many jobs -WHM SMN BLM RDM PLD NIN- but even those are still personal preferences. I still say go for STR in that category -again personal playing stlye- as it helps most jobs and helps farm better and when soloing, enjoying yourself, etc. helps your WS dmg. Even after all these post though, just go with your personal playing beliefs/styles but these are just the best for end game stuff you may wish to particpate in. Think it this way, IF you were in a Dynamis Shell and RDM AF2 Hat dropped, I believe the team would give it to there best Enfeebling RDM then there I R MELEE RDM any day of the week.

i disagree teppo because are elemental is only 210 at cap and no mater if you put 3 merit in thunder acc you will still get resisted on some mobs. Remeber are main riole is enfeble, so wind acc and ice acc will help you much much much more in end game, exp, and solo. Parlize will proc more, bind will last longer. Thunder will help you stun as rdm/drk but that all the thunder good for. convert as nice as it sound it is not worth it. Once you merit mp and start getting some zenith gear you will have no problem making it from convert to convert. I say enemy crit hit rate good one to. I cant count how many time crit hits kill me. spell interupion rate/ crit hite rate nice to depending what you are going to do for your next job. do not for all thing holy put any merits in the enmity areas it will mess up your gameplay. For attibute im chooseing mnd and str mainly because being mithra that is are weak points

First off this is This one is asking strictly what is good for Red Mages. There was no mention of other jobs. Your the one who needs to rethink the job. Please tell what would be good for red mages only? Str? For a Red mage? And I'm the one who should slapping myself? What weak minded red mage would melee in any party? Granted I used too, simply for the fact I did not know anybetter, but luckly soon found the errors of my ways.

As for the - emity, what would you prefer the next 4 merit points in the "Other" catagory go too? Crit up? I know I did, for my Thf, and Ranger, NOT FOR RED MAGE. Enemy Crit down? I'm currently working on that for my Paladin, again not for Red mage. Hellstorm thinks Crit down is a good idea, but not getting Hate at all is even better. So I would Only assume for a RED MAGE - emnity would be Good for a red mage since Nothing else seems to fit. You can always get + emnity, yea show whose a Better tanker, You or the Ninja/Paladin.

As for Magic Acc, It helps with damage because It does not get resisted as much. Want to go all out on enfeebles, by all means, I simply think of those, OH SO RARE, None cannon parties that have a traditional set up, a little + element would be nice. You agree with me on blizzard, but once again the one who posted wants Convert 5/5. So, How bout 5/5 on Blizzard so everyone is happy.

Also, Hellstorm, I believe Thunder Has little to do with Rdm/drk's Stun. I believe if you want a better, Longer lasting stun (by .5 second) You should consider Meriting Dark Magic. If I am wrong, then why are people arguing with me about Not meriting Thunder and do Wind instead? Silence? I couldve sworn that's what all the +enfeebling was for.

If you want to throw in other stats like daggers, Crit up, Str, and so on, Make sure more then one jobs is being used. Because if that is the case HP is always good, despite what Many may think. Element is good incase you want to level Blackmage. Dark is good for Dark knight and so forth. In this thread it's "Merits for Red Mage". Not "Good Merits for every job".

you also have to consider soloing that where str would come in also you have to consider down the road you going to lvl another job. enmity is a waste now more then ever with this new who has the hate get the mob claim rule. enfebling magic meirts help but tacked on with ice and wind which account for 50% of the spell you use in game you will be dinomite. Thunder acc would help you in stun but agian we only get a 200 dark magic and very limited do we use stun and very limited more does it actually resist. We are also said that the op should reconsider putting 5/5 in convert merit, it really wont help much and acc merits help alot! enemy crit and interupt rate will help you in those cases in dynamis where you have a mob on you and you not able to get sleep off or if rdm/nin where mob does a 3 hit attack and take opp utsumi ni and you need some time to cast ichi or stoneskin. if anything should gou 4ice 3wind 3tunder if your heart set on putting merit in thunder for bust oocasions

Well hmm.. you think he/she is going to be a RDM the whole time? and PLEASE tell me who was tanking where you stole hate as a RDM -other then using Convert, Divine Seal, Cure 4- 'cause IF I come back I won't party with them. When meriting on any job, you should think bout its uses overral because they are associated with all jobs and since the poster is new at it MAY not even know about that so ITS GOOD TO INFORM THEM. Unlike you blabbing useless RDM info, use -enmity and Thunder Magic Acc 'cause RDMs nuke sooo damn much -rolls eyes-. Even when your not in a roaming party... how often would a RDM nuke in a exp pt? You can argue when soloing, yea more damage can be useful, but then again I'd rather have my Bind and Gravity and Silence -IF fighting mage type mobs- stick. And meriting Dark Magic are you really stupid? Unless they recently added it, RDMs can't level Dark Magic Accuracy -only in the Magic Category-. So please Teppo, before misleading poor adventures, think ahead and post accurate info.

Some people really cant read can they?

If you want to do Mutiple jobs, Str, Hp, Eva, Crit up and E.Crit down. Some Enfeebles, Some Elements, and Maybe Dark for Dark Knights. That was at the end of my last post. I believe you guys are all "OMG, ENFEEBLE AND MP ONRY" This is why i wanted some element as well. You want to say, Well this is good for Red mages, so Max it out. Dont come back at me with "He might want to level more jobs." After I suggested other things This particular poster asked for.

Oh yea, God, please do your homework, If you sub Dark with Redmage you do get Dark magic skill. Sadly to say for my Hume, it caped at 200, but it exsists none the less. And who knows? It "Might" actually help with Stun. If you dont believe so, Dont Merit it.

As for Soloing. Since Magic acc, is so useless, what Would you perfer? Just sitting there, meleeing? I soloed for a long time as a rdm, and noticed very little difference when I boosted up my str. If this person wants to merit str for other jobs, by all means.

AGAIN This person asked for Red Merits, NOT ALL FUCKING JOBS.

Oh yea, one more thing God, If you want this person to merit other stats for other future jobs. Please stay on track. You sgo from "red mage stats" to "Multi job stats" Very often.

RDM get Dark Magic regardless if DRk is subbed or not, theres this thing.. I believe its called Bio, may have heard of it. Yes, I'm sure it helps with Stun and I believe Hellstorm made a decent point could do 5 Wind 3 Ice 2 Thunder or some mix of it.

Magic Acc is useless when soloing...? Are you really retarded? Sticking Silence isn't useful when soloing a magic casting enemy? Bind and Gravity don't help when doing the Nuking way? -Nuke Sleep Nuke Sleep if some people don't know what I'm talking about- IF this was just a RDM onry meriting situaton and saying fuck all other jobs, I'd say 4 INT 4 MND and 2 STR for when soloing. - Enmity is still the stupidest thing I've ever heard... Crit Rate % + is still more useful when soloing, Enemry Crit % - is good when soloing and IF you grab hate as a RDM. Weapon is all just personal ways could have 5 Sword and 5 Dagger or whatever.

So you happy now.. stayed on JUST RDM and still made you look dumb... <<Congratulations!!>> /clap /cheer

So wait what You agree on Magic Acc for Solo and Not in parties? Hmmm, I mean I always said Magic Acc was good and all you say is "Bliz and Aero ONRY *Foams at the mouth" and ~ your little quote as seen above "They nuke so much".

Also I like to know where you get your info what element Silence, Bind, and Gravity are. I couldve sworn Enfeeble wouldve do the job, but apparently it isnt that much of a factor.

I still think -Enmity is good for any mages, but if you think a wooping 4% difference on Enemy critical on (the Rare occations) Red mages acctually gets hate, "Fire the pld who lost hate on that", Sure do E.crit. Hell i do E. crit, cuz Im also a Pld but that's just me.

Yes, because we all know Red mages are awsome DDs. I mean the astonding 20-30 a hit (60 with crit!!) will make anyone want to pick up a sword or dagger and go ape shit on every Easy prey out there. Then again, that's just red mages onry. We all know the greatest red mages out there use their swords and not there nukes to solo Genbu, Ancient Goolber and so forth.

I ask this now, never focus on Soloing with Rdm by +str and wep stats if you want to solo as rdm. But if you think i'm wrong continue speaking your piece, i'm just saying mine.

Great way to avoid a question. Now answer my god damn question.

Calv/Godofdeath said:
Have you ever had a roaming party at 75? RDMs never lack party invites and we never lack in parties. A good RDM can out last any WHM in a roaming party 'cause of Convert and Self Refresh while the BRD is out pulling for a bigger chain. Levels 50-70 our debuffs work very well versus most monsters, espically Dispel, which no job can get til 64 or 68 (been awhile since I've played forgot level you learn Dispel). Dispel works against most mobs that are experienced off of. At 64, with WHM leveled and all spells bought, we can start to replace WHMs as main healers. Even not as main healers, we can be very good back up healers. Our Barfiras, Barthundara (as /WHM), has the potential to be stronger then any WHMs and lets us toss up the Barfiras when fighting against Goblins and allow the WHM to keep on curing. Only real advantage WHMs have over us RDMs is stronger Protects and Shells in the -ga forms. Cure V, Raise II and III and higher Regens. So a resourceful RDM never lacks in stuff to do in a party. And IF your one of those RDMs that just sit there and spam Refresh and worry about when to restart it again, please find another job to get to 75, 'cause getting RDM to 75 just to solo stuff isn't going to be all its cracked up to be.
-Whm can easily replace rdm in roaming parties, without running out of mp, and smn can in some
-Brd is the key to roaming parites, a good brd means 10-15k/hr, a bad brd 6-10k/hr, no brd 4-8k/hr
-Brd Blu and Smn (with fenrir) all have their own form of dispel, that they get levels 32-46
-Whm has the highest potential for bar-spells, with AF2
-Whm has flash, rdm doesn't get that unless they sub pld 74-75
-Regen is huge, less mp to heal more hp, and time released so you can rest up some mp while your tank is getting healed

Use ice accuracy, blizzards are almost as powerful as thunders, and you can get that extra boost to elemental magic from ice staff using them. Plus your bind/paralyze see a huge bonus. If you are getting resisted MB'ing thunder on a light SC, then skip MB'ing, because otherwise Jesus will start killing puppies.

Back on subject of what to merit...
Enfeebling magic
Wind Accuracy
Ice Accuracy
Max MP
Anything else you might want

How do you know wind acc affects Silence, and possible other spells. I would dearly like to see where you get that info. In all my days of playing Red mage, I am told Only Mind/INT and Enfeebling Controls the power of Debuffs. Where is it writen that Wind Acc effects Silence. That is my question.

1. Yes but most parties would prefer a RDM over a WHM 'cause of Convert and self Refresh so BRD can run out and get next mob for chain.
2. Too be honest each job is important and if any are lacking it decreases exp. EXP: MNKs who bring Blinda potions when in KRT will gain more exp then one without. I will admit though a BRD is VERY important.
3. May have it but RDMs is by far better and faster meaning getting rid of Ice Spikes ASAP and hopefully before too many, IF any, melee get paralyzed.
4. Like all WHMs will get AF2? Until then RDMs have equal if not better then a WHMs. And with a RDM and WHM in a party, RDM doing it allows WHMs to concentrate more on curing and lets RDM bother with those.
5. And a WHM wants to use Flash because? Just a strong short version of Blind with more hate grabbing and more MP cost!
6. I admited WHM has better Regen and never said it wasn't helpful. We also get a self Refresh without subbing SMN and getting a WHOLE 1 MP a tick. I don't want a WHM that just casts Regen and thinks there job is done either still need to be ready to jump up in case of few crit hits in a row or a link.

Look in your merit point description, Red Mage Specific.

"Wind Magic Accuracy - Increases the Accuracy of Wind Spells by 3"

Look at your magic menu, see the green icon next to gravity, and the green icon next to Silence? Those mean that those spells are wind based. That is why using a wind staff helps land them (please tell me that you at least aknowldge/do use corresponding elemental staves for enfeebles)
