So walking back from Breakfast this morning, downpouring and me stupidly walking out in flip flops, some lady with a pink hat says "Excuse me" right as I step through a puddle that wasn't half the size it was now. So I'm thinking shes asking for directions. Turn around and she has a dollar in her hand, walking up to me going "I want to give you something" I'm like uhh... I see money :D Get closer and shes like I want you to take this and read it and find your path to Christ.

............... I'm in the pouring rain. My feet are freezing cold. And you just fooled me into thinking I was getting money =(

Maybe thats the point of it, showing that I was being greedy and I shouldn't, but for someone whose a proclaimed Atheist... its kinda irritating. Meanwhile I'm trying to not express how pissed off I am, wanting nothing more than to just get out of the rain. It happens alot on campus though. You get stopped alot by people like that...

Sorry for quality of pics, took it with my cell lol.

The text on the bill reads:
The million-dollar question: Will you go to Heaven? Here's a quick test. Have you ever told a lie, stolen anything, or used God's name in vain? Jesus said, "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already commited adultery with her in his heart." Have you looked with lust? Will you be guilty on Judgment Day? If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer-at-heart. The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell. That's not God's will. He sent His Son to suffer and die on the cross for you. Jesus took your punishment upon Himself: "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life," Then He rose from the dead and defeated death. Please, repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus, and God will grant you everlasting life. Then read your Bible daily and obey it.

I am protestant, but I also know how annoying these people are lol. You know those mini-bibles? These old guys tried to give me like, 5 in 3 hours time on campus one day.

If you ever get one, just carry it with you and if they begin to approach you, pull it out just so they can see it and keep walking. Works every time lol, and no talking needed.

When I was in college, a trio of men turned up one day to distribute those mini New Testaments on campus. When I got to class, I was amused at how many students had them and obviously didn't want want them; they'd taken them to be polite.

I never had a problem declining the offer because, as I explained, I already own a copy. Still, I couldn't resist telling some of my fellow students that, by taking a Bible they didn't need, they were probably denying one to some poor sinner who could really benefit from it.

One nice thing about being the editor of the student newspaper is being able to cover the stuff you want, so I got to hang out with the trio for an hour or so and take some cool photographs of them doing their thing.

The fake dollar bill is a new one on me, but it's semi-clever considering the Bible slams the pursuit of wealth. Still, it's eyecatching and I'd be leaving stuff like that in public bathrooms to be found by truckers who need to "drop off a package." Using glue to stick quarters and dimes to the tiles is still better, though.

off topic but kind of related... my dad and his friends (when he was in elementary school) used to take a lighter and burn a quarter until it was really hot, then toss it on the floor in front of unsuspecting people... Who would grab it, lol.

Declining doesn't always work with some of these guys. I had one encounter with these guys on the quad when I was in school. I tried to politely tell them I did not want it, but the two old guys were being really pushy.

They were bugging a lot of people. Some took it and threw it in the garbage in front of the old guys, but I thought that was way harsh.

I took it and and smiled and used it to balance out one of my chair legs. (That decision, although chair-enhancing, later cost me second base.)

I usually try to pretend to be on my cell phone or something when I walk by their little tables at the student union. This one caught me right outside of a dining hall though lol >_<

well, I dont believe in any religion... and if there are ppl trying to tell me how nice god and having faith in god is, I just say that i am sorry but i am not religious at all.

I personally think that there shouldnt be any advertising about religion at all. I think its a personal thing and ppl should practise their belief the way they want it and not how other ppl/things tell them

Everyone has their own set of beliefs, some imposed as children, some developed on their own, some kinda set on through friends or whatnot, many different ways to have them develop. I think its stupid to try to push a belief on someone, especially by faking them out with fake money =(

Yeah, the religious advertising people and shit has always been out of hand in my opinion. Of course, I also live in Kansas, which means on a regular basis I see groups of happy fun people with "God hates fags" signs, or a random wandering preacher singing about how we're all whores and going to hell, or seeing Christ get crucified in front of Wescoe hall (last friday, and I shit you not. Some church group did some group chantings and a reenactment of the passion of the christ. Pissed me off to no end cause it made me late for my history lecture). Just take small comfort in the fact that, by the tenants of thier own religion, most of them are going to thier respective hells. Keeps me happy atleast.

Honestly I don't so much mind that there are church groups advertising meetings and whatnot. Theres always signs up for the Interfaith community crap on campus and stuff, but thats harmless. When they start grabbing you up and saying that you should take the path of Christ or whatever and if you don't your condemned to hell however... it's lame, which was much of what I got off that dollar today -_-. When they start using "threats" against you, thats when it starts to get on your nerves.

I wish that since this is a state school that they wouldn't allow religious affiliated activity. Guess its sorta a freedom of speech/expression thing, where the campus can't preach but it can't suppress...

(First thought when I saw the dollar bill thing was hmmm, could they get in trouble for advertising religion on a dollar bill >.>; Doubtful though eh, lol)

Let's explore this christian foolishness for a moment.

1. "Ever told a lie? Stolen anything? Used God's name in vain?" - who freaking hasn't?? Granted stealing is wrong, but none of these things are so severe an offense that it should be punishable by being burned and tortured forever in a lake of fire for all eternity.

2. "Whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already commited adultery with her in his heart." Have you looked with lust? - it's called biology dumbasses. It is in human nature to look at another human with sexual feelings that you find attractive to procreate with them to further the species. To try and make people feel guilty for feeling normal biological urges is twisted and wrong.

3. "If you have done those things, God sees you as a lying, thieving, blasphemous, adulterer-at-heart." - wow, nice "god" you guys believe in.

4. "The Bible warns that if you are guilty you will end up in Hell." - this is blatant fear-mongering. The idea of hell is a very terrifying thing. Using that fear, the christians have held power over people for centuries and centuries.

5. "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life," Then He rose from the dead and defeated death." - all this says is, 'believe what we say and do what we say, and you'll be okay. But this completely ridiculous. People can't raise from the dead! The real world isn't some science fiction story. Telling people stuff like this thousands of years ago might have worked, but people are much smarter nowadays and telling someone that you believe that some guy raised from the dead will only make people laugh at you and think that you are mentally retarded.

6. "Please, repent (turn from sin) today and trust in Jesus, and God will grant you everlasting life." - trust in Jesus?? Trust in someone who died thousands of years ago? Why? There is no proof of everlasting life at all. Believeing that there is, is just wishful thinking.

7. "Then read your Bible daily and obey it." - haha, "and obey it". Screw you. People think that there are so many great morals in that book, but there really isn't. That book is full of hate-mongering, prejudice, and fear tactics. There are stories in it where someone says, "God told me to kill every man, woman, child, and animal in this entire town because they were unbelievers" and people are perfectally okay with that. Are those good morals?? You think that crap would fly in modern times? Hell no.

I have seen christian tracts using money on it before. The one I saw looked just like a 20 dollar bill, but on the back it said "disapointed? so is God", and it went on to tell you how you need to save your soul or whatever. Mostly I see the little comic books placed around. I used to have a collection of them that I'd read and laugh at.

Sorry you had to get all wet and cold listening to a christian. I would have told them to fuck off, and take their "god" and stfu.

Yep. Notice how there isn't exactly any widespread, newly deep-rooted religions springing up. There are no messiah's being created and widely followed. Anyone who tries to proclaim themselves a new messiah gets laughed at nowadays and considered a bit off.

Think of it this way, put Jesus and all the religious scripture in terms of today. All these events that 'really happened' in today's viewpoint would literally be laughed at with society today. Science has too much leverage for another monotheistic style religion to spread.

I personally think what she did was pretty much uncalled for its not really good to advertise religion like that esp with money

its like saying "Believe in *insert religion* and you get so much money or sweet shit"

how crass and crude

I remember some pushier types "recruiting" at my campus once. They didn't feel bad about taking the pusy approach and following/pestering myself and others, not hearing the numerous, "No thanks" .........So I didn't feel bad about telling them to fuck off. I found it hilarious that they gasped as if they were suddenly witness to a devil-child that didn't walk God's path, holding hands with them. Bunch of hypocrites, not seeing their own actions. Expecting people to go along with their beliefs, and getting aggressive when people don't thank them for their literature. You can't just shove religion in people's faces. I'm not sure why they would believe they were taking the high road when they clearly were not. I didn't feel bad for being as insulting towards them as they were being disrespectful towards myself and others.

My advice to all Christians/Catholics

1) Go to the Phillipines
2) Check out the quality of housing for the average citizen
3) Check out the quality of cathedrals in the immediate vicinity

I lost my faith on a missions trip when I was 18. I saw thousands of phillipino's living in houses literally made of sticks with immaculate nearbye cathedrals with locked fences. Where is your god now? If that's god, fuck him.

And after you do that, come back to me for step 2. Religion is so much more of a detriment to the world than anything else. I have nothing but ill-will towards organized religion.

You have everything in the world to comment on, don't talk stupid things about God. I tell you this for your own good. ^^

God is a golf club!

My biggest problem with religion (christianity especially) is that they base their whole belief system on "faith". It's like, they present tons of completely unbelievable stuff, and expect you to believe it to be absolute fact with no proof whatsoever.

I think that if you are going to claim that a man can walk on water, feed hundreds with one fish, turn water to wine, cure blindness and sickness by touching you, and all that stuff, you had better come up with some concrete proof that these things actualy happened. A book written by men thousands of years ago isn't proof.

Where is the proof of God's existance? And don't say, "it's because I feel Him in my heart" or "I see God in the face of every child", or any of that crap, because that's not proof. Most people believe in God because their parents did. Just because you can't explain how the universe was created, it doesn't mean that God did it.

religion, always a touchy topic...... thin ice here, thin ice....

theres a lot of complicated questions around this one... what are you, what makes you, you? is it patterns of thought? memories stored in grey matter? maybe you are your soul as most religions believe. but how do you define a soul? how is it attatched to you? is it attached to your body? what if you had a sliver of you at a time transplanted with someone else until you were 100% switched. if it worked, would you still be you? that's of course part of the teleport question but maybe with a knife and some futuristic medical knowledge... where would your consciousness be? the soul is a large assumption in almost all religions, awareness/existance beyond death is always in the form of a soul. if frankenstein were real, would he have a soul? created by man but with a mind and thought and feelings.

it's noted to my calculating selfish mind that i should find the most jealous vengeful set of gods ever and worship them, after all, most other gods seem to have that repent and be forgiven clause... why chance being confronted with an angry god you didn't worship vs being confronted with a forgiving god and repenting when the truth was shown to you?

oh religion... so much fun. i've asked a good number of these to religious types and the answers are.... funny....

Btw, mortanis, that's why it's called faith, that's the basis of it. some misguided people try to explain it, try to use science to prove things, but in the end of it all, you just have to take that leap of faith, believe it knowing that there is no proof.

EX-LEPER: All right, sir. My final offer: half a shekel for an old ex-leper.
BRIAN: Did you say... 'ex-leper'?
EX-LEPER: That's right, sir. Sixteen years behind the bell, and proud of it, sir.
BRIAN: Well, what happened?
EX-LEPER: I was cured, sir.
BRIAN: Cured?
EX-LEPER: Yes, sir, a bloody miracle, sir. God bless you.
BRIAN: Who cured you?
EX-LEPER: Jesus did, sir. I was hopping along, minding my own business. All of a sudden, up he comes. Cures me. One minute I'm a leper with a trade, next minute my livelihood's gone. Not so much as a by your leave. 'You're cured mate.' Bloody do-gooder.

The Life of Brian. Greatest movie about religion ever.
