Either put names to quotes or get rid of it, this is stupid. "Let's let people flame anonymously! YEAH!"

Flames without names are not a good way to "build a stronger community". .:rtfm:

Just my opinion however.

I think its weak personally, I liked the thanks button better showed how much sense this person makes. Not perfect but still gives you some sort of accuracy.

Give it a "boo" button too that shows up under how many times they have been thanked will also shows how many times they have been "booed"

100% agreed with OP.
There are better options, if this type of thing is even needed at all.

I'd like this site to go back to the pre-rate days. No reputation, no rate-ups, no thank you's. Just posts on a forum.

It's humorous getting "rated down" by people over opinions they are too weak to share publicly and all but it's rather annoying to not be able to put a name to a comment even privately.

I kind of agree that if your going to make a comment (rep or not), you should be man enough to put your name to it.

I'd like to hear what others think about this.

Agreed. And I agree with Rambo the most.
Just posts. Those are the opinions. We don't really need opinions of opinions.

I'm all for putting a name to it. There are certain names you can expect certain garbage from and you'd know what to expect seeing their name attached. If you want to throw your two cents into how someone is viewed, then you should have the balls to back it up.

I'd like to have names because I always forget to leave mine whenever I give someone some rep.

But then if people have to leave names will I still get reps that say Wanker, and Blind idiocy???? Those are the hilight of my day, knowing that someone somewhere is pissed at me because of the lolinternet.

Thanks for the link Kotsu.

I always saw the reputation system as a way of giving a quick kudos or comment to a user about a post without having to send a PM or take the thread off track with off topic replies. I never equated rep to quality posting since many sites have groups where they go around giving each other rep. Its another toy to play with as far as I'm concerned.

I will add the names of those giving out rep since it makes sense.

In the future, I will see about bringing back the thanks feature. That mod actually used the rep system if I recall correctly and something about the way it was coded seemed to kill the server with unncessary queries. Vbulletin 3.6 changes the rep from a popup box to ajax (like the quick reply and search) so I am sure that will be much easier to use. I'll see if I can even add a button that gives good or bad karma without a comment for those too lazy to type ;)

The reputation phrases can be customized and I am open to suggestions on what they should be.

Doesn't matter. Noone pays any attention to it anyway.

Some people may want a good rating simply to stroke their E-penis. That's about all tho. It really makes absolutely no difference unless everyone can see the comments and who made them.

I was called a newb by someone. It hurt my feelings. I cried. I had to have my mommy tell me i'm not a newb. i hope your all happy.

Jk :p

If the comments were made public and names were attached, I'd agree with the reputation system. The little button with a rank is useless because noone can see the cause of such a rank. Besides, for all intents and purposes there are only two ranks - unknown quantity and distinguished road. The former is for everyone with controversial posts, and the latter is for the sheep. Really, only offensive or useless posts should be rated down but I don't think that's the case. A well spoken unpopular position should be rated up whilst a poorly worded popular oppinion shouldn't, but it seems the opposite is the case.

From what I've seen so far I could care less for the reputation system in it's current state. I came back after months of not posting to find a few select dumb asses with nothing better to do leaving bs comments. I'd say remove it or bring back the flameboard & stop letting people hide behind this new feature, so they can attack people anonymously like scared little children.

I like the rep button. Its a quick way to thank someone. Or maim someone. Either way, I sign all my reps, good or bad. I don't like the annonimty.

The thanks button was nice, but if someone posted something from playonline, a hundred people would 'thank' them, and it would just fill up the screen.

Just forcing people to put their names to their comments isn't enough. The comments need to be publicly visable. Like I said before, there are only two ranks as far as QCDN is concerned for the most part - default and one below default. Now not all subdefaults are created equal. If we can't see why a person is rated down, then what does it matter? How many rate downs were legitimate and how many were simply vindictive? It matters as much as name accountability matters. "This post is unacceptable here because..." and "lol u suk" can't be given the same weight, and the current system gives them just that. Let the community see for itself what "shameless behavior" said person has had in the past. I'm willing to bet there's not so much shameless behavior as anonymous vindictive members having a field day.

Personally, just take it out. Leave it down to bare posts. Nothing useful comes from a "reputation" system.

People will gain good/bad reputations on their own. They dont really need a system telling them they fail at life.

EDIT: lol, i got a reputation rate down from this post http://www.qcdn.org/showthread.php?p=463608#post463608

Even though I was right. The comment on the rate down was: "Omg stfu already." lol, talk about pitiful.
