Requiem for a Flameboard

I can point you to a thousand flames outside the flameboard. I think the 5 can be forgiven, we're not all playing free Doom3 here.
Never said that, the OP from the old thread asked for MP3s from something and then he stepped in 2 months ago someone did the same thing for FFVII AC and nothing happend.

Why get your panties all in a bunch now.

Your own actions lead to the FB overshadowing the forums and instead of actually enforcing rules, you blame the "problem" on the FB, take away the FB the main draw of QCDN and enforce the standard everywhere. Which with the past history of QCDN, the enforcement will probably be the same. I start a flame, I get read only access (my slap on the wrist) and I can come back with a simple, "I'm sorry". A week later, I can repeat the same thing and not have to worry.

I really don't blame the FB. I really do blame myself.
The FB was just the catalyst, and I was the enabler.

This will not be the case this time around. For all the heat I am taking on this, a little more for banning people won't make a difference.

this thread is like a wheel. it just goes round and round.
I made that point to Trippyhippy, about three turns ago. He said that it was "getting somewhere." Not so.

The pressure is building...

I see Sneakypants is on Read-Only.

Part of me thinks this is an instigation to get people outraged, flame out, and have Sculli ban them. I won't go that far. But this does feel like selective enforcement when multiple people should be held to the same standard, but aren't.

[ricflair]Ban me? I'm already banned. [/ricflair]

I think this is falling between the mildly and excessively range of bitchfest. Seriously, leave Pere alone. Who cares? Not saying that he is hypocritical because I don't care either way, but how does it affect you? It doesn't. You guys are just lashing to have something to do, it seems. If Sneak is read-only, than it's because of his comments on this thread. But seriously, how can you expect to attack a person or even the administrator of a forum and expect to get away with it? Let me reference:

"Hm. My name is Japan. Oh wait, there's Pearl Harbor. Let me just press this red-button and..." BOOM

"Hi. My name is the United States of America. Oh, there's hiroshima and nagasaki. Let me just return their red button and ... " Bigger boom.

If you really need to fight over something that's not going to change, then please find a camera. Proceed to take a rule next to your "area's" and take a picture of your measurement. Because now all this has become is a "who has the bigger balls" post. Who can flirt with the lines of right or wrong for a longer time. Just leave it alone and move on with life. Or a better idea, log into FFXI and send me some Gil. :D

lol at what this board is becoming. Sculli, you took a good thing and screwed it up due to your power tripping attitude. Yes, everyone understands this is your board. However, this board would be nothing without the people that post here. It seems that you want to cater to a select few and to say screw everyone else, in which case you should just say so. I say a select few because quite frankly i dont believe the silent majority exists.

Banning sneaky for giving his opinoin is extremely low. I know, you are tring to set an example, but honestly this is so lame. You appease pere, who quite frankly causes many more problems then solves. He has admited to purposly derailing threads (which is against your rules). Is he on read only? Will you even address this? Is what you want a message board w/ 5 happy people holding hands talking about absolutly nothing?

If nothing else, this decision has found a common ground for Sirelrohir and I. Didn't see that coming!

I'd appreciate it in the future if you could contain your pointless analogies to topics outside the realm of american atrocities... and for reference, Pearl harbor was a military target, hiroshima and nagasaki were civilian targets, and still kill people today. The decision to bomb those two cities was not a reprisal action for pearl harbor, but a move intended to intimidate the soviets and one that essentially began the cold war.
The hundreds of thousands of japanese non-militants killed, or who later died from radiation, and the thousands who died at pearl harbor, and all their surviving families probably find your oversimplified and incorrect analogy offensive. I know I do.

lol, i know. i thought that too.

He's not attempting to appease Pere. He's attempting to control and handle a growing problem, which is the downright lack of respect each person has for one another. That was just a prime example. However, I dunno if Sneak is set to read only or not, as he set that title to himself (my assumption) days ago and has since posted. However, there are some people who I can't blame him if he suspends or bans their accounts because honestly some posts are just downright out of control.

I've been talking to Sneaky through PM's - he is indeed on ROA.

It wasn't a direct depiction of what occurred then, as I thought I made that painstakingly obvious. As much as I admire japanese history and culture, it was in no way to belittle or attack it. The point I'm trying to make is: One action is not deserving of the other. As you said, the attack on pearl harbor (a military base killing a couple thousand) did not warrant the ultimate atomic destruction that killed hundreds of thousands of civilians. The demise of the flameboard does not warrant the continuous crying that has ensued. A far less degree in ratio, I can definately agree with. However, I'm not one for tact. I'm more for the direct, blunt approach. I think that my point is probably better explains now, though. I apologize that the misunderstanding offended you.

Like I said, I don't know. I won't speak for others, but I'm just saying... If he is Read Only, than something warranted that.

As long as you see it Scull's way you'll be fine.

I think it would be good for some readers to gain perspective.
I just spend half an hour to chase some kid around who felt that it was his duty to post porn links all over the board. He made accounts from a variety of different IP ranges and it took me a while to nail him down for what is hopefully good. I had to check whether any other users are on those IP ranges before banning them etc etc.

What's the point?
I simply can not be everywhere at the same time, and see everything that happens. When I see posts which are in violation of the QCDN Community Standards, then I do take action. When such posts are reported, then I or the mods take action. Feel free to point things out to me that I should be looking at.

Whether you believe something or not has no relevance to the fact itself.
Yes, I am out to cater to selected group of people, of which you are obviously not a part. Your options are to adjust your attitude to fit into the selected group of people, or to move on. Whether you believe that those are your only options or not has no relevance to the fact itself.

I'm really very curious to know exactly which post put him over this threshold (if it's true). It can't be any of the ones that I can find remaining by him; some of them are treading the line, but none of them get any closer to it than countless others have.

At any rate, it's a long way to fall for someone that once had a bit of authority around these parts. I'd have to expect the offense to be something truly stellar; otherwise, I don't see how the perception can be avoided that it was some sort of personal retaliation. It would be a restrained one, granted, but that's how it looks (without any other information) all the same. To be honest, I doubt that's the case, so I'm looking for the "legitimate" reason. What happened?

It would be useful to see, if nothing else, where the line was finally drawn. :/

This isn't about cash or pleasing one group over another, or listening to someone's advice, or going nazi admin or any of those things. There comes a time for everyone, or at least I hope this to be true, where one asks oneself: What am I doing? How does what I am doing affect others? Am I doing the right thing?

One of these things is not like the others.

Maybe I'm wrong about this, but I figured I was part of the silent majority. And by that, I mean people who read this site for news and issues related directly to this server. I hardly ever post, as you can see by my count, but I come on here a lot, sometimes to check briefly if anyone is running a mission/quest that I need, but almost always to check the flameboard for some great discussion and entertainment.

Yes, some of the flames are extremely stupid, like when not that long ago Pandetech decided to make 11+ threads at once for no reason. Or when a reasonable flame about the let down of the 1st besieged turns into a total piece of crap thread by somebody trying to argue that it doesn't make real-world logical sense to wait inside the city to battle.

But the point is, those threads/posts are very easy to just skim over. Like in this thread, I simply skim passed peregrine's posts and the posts that are complaining about him, and focus on the posts about the real reasons the flameboard is being taken away.

Anyway, I guess I'm just saying that I always thought the silent majority enjoyed the flameboard for a good laugh or debate, and I probably won't be coming back here very much, as the rest of the board is quite dull in my opinion.

Good point. Yeahhhh, who was that in the Besieged thread? I am either forgetting or missed it all because it was the one person I had on ignore...

NOTE: Just looking to clarify.

If a thread is easy to skim over, surely and entire forum would be too. ^^

I have noted a difference, but perhaps Sculli can give you the answer you seek. I feel like maybe it's best if I don't so much as quote for the sake of referencing right now.
