Since the end of last year, item values have risen astronomically on all Worlds due to the manipulation of prices by a small percentage of the player base. The development team and the GMs carried out a detailed investigation of this problem, and discovered the existence of a group using illicit methods to produce large amounts of gil that are later sold in the real world (Real Money Trading). We would like to take this opportunity to outline the measures that have been taken to correct this issue.

Based on the results of this investigation, more than 700 accounts among those found to be involved in large-scale RMT operations have been terminated. We will continue to monitor accounts suspected of dealing in gil created or obtained in an unfair manner.

Thanks to these measures, more than 300 billion gil has been removed from circulation, and the overly inflated prices of items have begun to fall to more realistic levels.

Furthermore, emergency maintenance has already been performed on all worlds for the purpose of implementing RMT countermeasures. This maintenance took place over two stages, starting on January 17th.

As has been previously stated, acts of RMT will not be tolerated in FINAL FANTASY XI, and any violations of the user agreement will be dealt with severely. We would like to assure our players that all efforts are being made to ensure a fair playing experience.

We hope to have your continuing understanding and cooperation in creating a Vana'diel that everyone can enjoy.

Sounds exactly like they did last year... and we all know what happened then <.<;

Wait wait, SE figured out who the gilsellers are? How did they do that, track large, even gil figure transactions that seemed to be giving someone gil for nothing in exchange, and seeing who is on the giving and receiving end repeatedly? They must have some serious thinkers there.

I think it was not "classical" gilsellers who sold these gil, but a litle group using a hack or an exploit to generate gil from nothing (cause of the inflation). In these case its a bit easier to track who used this hack/exploit and ban them.

"300 billion removed" That is awesome. I'm sure most of us have noticed that over the last month prices for many items has dropped significantly. I don't know how SE catches gil buyers/sellers, and I don't care how they catch them. I'm just glad that they are. And I'm also glad they aren't just targeting sellers, but buyers as well.

Either way it makes me happy to see some accounts fried due to gil selling/illegal acts in game. Wonder how far inflation will fall in the long run from all this though.

Last time, it wasn't just gilsellers banned.

It was "players who broke the ToS by MPKing, especially at HNMs". People ASSUMED that was gilsellers, but it was more likely people who abused that at HNM camps and the sort.

Actions Taken Due to Member Agreement Violations

On February 14, over 800 accounts which repeatedly violated the PlayOnline
Member Agreement were permanently banned from PlayOnline.

The users of these accounts would form groups to monopolize the hunting
spots of notorious monsters (NM). They also repeatedly performed harassment and MPK actions against other players.

Grief tactics, including harassment, are listed in the PlayOnline Member
Agreement as violations and are not allowed for any reason. Also,
interfering other players' game play in order to monopolize monsters which spawn in hunting spots is not allowed.

Based on the above, we have taken strict actions against players who have
violated the PlayOnline Member Agreement.

If you become a victim of harrasment, please make a GM Call and report the issue directly to a Game Master.

Your understanding and cooperation will help us provide the best experience possible to our players.

that is a shit load of gil to be taken outta the economy :P <3 SE err.. however.. some items are still inflated and inflating more.. like.. synthesis leveling items D: (I just farm mine cause I'm cheap :P)

700/32 (number of servers not including test or 360 beta server) = ~28.9 players per server.

300,000,000,000/32 = 9,375,000,000 So on average about 9 billion gill was removed from each server.

Also think. That 300 billion is probably spread across all 32 worlds (not counting Hydra or Atomos). So on average that's less than 100 Billion gil that could have beed removed from Quetzalcoatl, which is still quite a lot.

Edit: Darn, Kurgon beat me too it XD

I think that this is great on the part of SE. However, in the hunt for sellers I hope they don't remove accounts that were not gilsellers as they did the last time they did this. But overall I think this is a great measure re-leveling the playing field between those that dont buy gil and those that do. Because this deletes the accounts of the gilsellers they lose a lot of money and time that they already had invested in that gill and will have to reclaim those losses by raising prices on the gil that they sell. That means that gilbuyers will get less for their money. Which should in turn increase the value of in-game money. Great call SE! Its about time

True. Maybe they just need to make this habit more often than just spring cleaning.

Well if it is like last year they will just let them back. I hope it is better than last year.

So I guess we should expect prices of items to fall back to how they were in the past? Snipers ring....500k. Valk Mask....300k. Assault Earring 300k. Astral Ring....500k.

If thats the case....I better start saving up the gil while gil still isnt worth alot atm.

300 billion gill
700 accounts
32 servers

22 accounts per server
9,375,000,000 per server
428,571,428.57 per account

Actual numbers are probably somewhat different... but those were some loaded mules. o.o;
