Rude People

Unfortunately I do not like the idea of RMT. If you're out to get money for your efforts... I believe the rest of us have a job....

I don't go into Chuck & Cheese (or whatever kids' playground is near you), collect all the tickets and sell them to the kids so they can get those prizes they wanted to get. My friends will just monopolize the skeeball table and get all those prize tickets. Instead of ourselves using it for those Chuck & Cheese brand prizes, we will just sell them to the kids since they can't use the machine to get their own tickets and get what prizes they wanted.

This is how I'm seeing RMT work in FFXI. People who are in this game NOT to play the game, but to just take advantage of people who need the items by claiming them and selling them off to the highest bidder and then turning around to sell the gil for RL rewards. At 11:45 pm at night, this is how I'm seeing the comparison.

I think this is the best analogy I've ever heard on this topic.

Very good analogy, Palum... *claps*

(yes, I was serious there)

Now that I think about it a bit, I suppose I should change my opinion a bit.

The monopolizing gilsellers, the ones that claim a NM constantly, are the ones that need to go. And I suppose that would include those that hunt HNMs.

The gilsellers that I don't mind, however, are the ones that spend time doing something that doesn't directly affect other players (and doesn't hurt the economy - so those that fish rusties all day are also bad). To use your analogy, that would be someone that goes up to one of the machines, uses it a bit, and decides to sell the tickets to someone else. He doesn't hurt anyone that's trying to get tickets for themselves, just gives some people another way to get tickets.

Yeah, it's confusing, I know. But my brain is confusing.

Setha, in a sense, you're wrong, sorry to say - figuratively speaking, if a guy goes up to a machine and uses it to get tickets to sell, he just cheated someone else out of those tickets right then and there. Does matter how little or how much they do it, they're still doing it..

I think you misunderstand, Mish. I meant that if no one else was going to use that machine (farm those mobs), then if a ticket-seller (gilseller) came to use the machine (farm those mobs) to get tickets (items) to sell, it doesn't really "hurt" anyone. The machine (mobs) would have just been sitting there otherwise, and even if someone else wanted to use it, there would have been extra machines (mobs) for others to use (farm) as well.

Why would using a machine to get tickets cheat someone else out of those tickets, assuming that there were enough machines for everyone to be using one? There's essentially a near-infinite supply to be obtained.

Palum you are a genius.

That is the best analogy there could possibly be for RMT >_>;;;

I would like to point out however that there are other things against the EULA/TOS thing that many people do every day.

Windower.
Model/texture replacement.
Music replacement.

All those are big no-no's in that little thing we 'signed' yet a majority of players break these rules daily. (Including myself. Yay Fenrir moogles!) So if you want to use the arguement that it's against the eula, I'm afraid that doesn't hold much water at least with me anymore. Theres lots of good arguments against RMT, I'm just saying this particular one isn't very strong.

OMG just MPK the MPKers back, report the gilsellers, and play the game. Is it really that hard?

Well... that hasn't been effective as of yet, so yes, it is that hard.

I've only really seen gil selling mpk'ers once at Amemit. There were 2 competing teams of gilsellers. It almost looked like a game to them. They'd die off left and right, get a Raise III when it was all done and laugh at everyone else in their path of destruction. So tell me that's effective :?

I'm not directly affected by their actions yet, as I'm still rather low in level. But my LS has a lot of high levels and I hear their complaints almost non-stop. So even though I don't witness the problem first hand very often, I am aware of how serious the problem has become.

I am against RMT because it's just flat out cheating. You're obtaining something without earning it within the rules of the game. If you wanna cheat, go play a single-player game and don't bring your spoiled-brat, 'I want everything and I want it now and I don't care how' attitude into this game. We have enough assholes as it is, we don't need more.

when i said "looked like a game to them" I did't mean they were playing for leisure. I mean like a sadistic kid's pleasure of burning ants with a magnifying glass and squealling with joy.

Bad example, I know, but I hope you get the point.
