For one, he didn't sell his gil for $4k when he wasn't playing it anymore. He sold it off and on over 2 years while he was still playing. For two, I can say without a shadow of a doubt I would never sell gil when I quit. I know this because I already quit once and gave my gil away. I guarantee I could get thousands of dollars for Rappa if I decide to quit again, but Rappa's just getting buried when I'm done and whatever non-r/e stuff I have is going to friends (again).

Why not? It's just a game, and in selling, it misrepresents the time I spent in building the character. I didn't sell anything off from Tristamgreen (not that I'd have gotten much for it anyway :dur:), and I have zero regrets regarding it.
 
That wasn't a slam btw for clarification, just that the game means more to some than to others. I liked the community, so I didn't sell mine. But I won't get all angry when someone does to pay for things they *need* in rl.

I see it the exact same way. If I can make a decent amount of money from my account (doubt I could). After I'm finished with it I'll fucking sell that shit right away. I had fun with the game, it was fun journey but if I can make something back from it in the end then sure! Even if it's not a profit.

I would not give two shades of shit how people see me on something as anonymous as the Internet... It can't give you anything in return so why care?

I don't play ffxi to make money. If I wanted thousands of dollars, I'd quit ffxi and go get a second job. Then I could make thousands of dollars in a month tops rather than over the course of years. It's simple really. Working at Wal-Mart could make you more money than selling gil/ffxi accounts.
 
Some people seem to be taking my selling gil as a personal insult, which I don't understand. What I did really affected me, and no one else. You can say all you want about helping RMT, but when you log on tomorrow, things are going to be exactly the same.

I still think questioning my real life conduct is a far stretch. If you knew me irl and you saw a need to question how I lived, then that's one thing and we'd talk about it. But you don't. At this point it's just going to be more of Rappa attempting to insinuate things about my rl based on a video game, and me telling him otherwise. Such is life.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have a meth lab to build.

Ok, but.

if you had 1 job and played FFXI right. Then one day got bored of FFXI why not make something back (even if it was not as big as a second job or to cover the costs of FFXI.) It's still something regardless.

Actually I'm not an idiot, I know he works very hard, but he also plays a lot, like a lot of other people do. I know this because I used to play with him. Geez, calm down, I wasn't disparaging him.

Oh, and I also never played this game as anything more than a game. Not sure when that whole argument sprang up. It just happened that I was well off enough in game where I could make some money from time to time. When I needed extra money I didn't play the game more, I went out and got a second job.
 
But apparently this is now morphed into something totally different. haha Carry on ladies.

Exactly. I don't understand how you wouldn't take an offer for instant money. Rather then getting a second job to make then money that you can get from selling something that you wouldn't use again.
