What the fuck is with people these days, i've been all over Canada working the past 2 years and i've never seen such BS as i do in Fort McMurray, Alberta. For the past 6 months or so i've been here. It's so shitty here it's crazy, on average 5M/week of coke is sold in this shit town, because there's so much money flowing (for those who dont know, fort mac is the booming oil city in Alberta, which is the main income for Canada really at the moment.) All the guys here think they are gods driving their huge trucks with epeens down to their ankles. Bums are everywhere, you can't even look at the seven eleven past 9pm lol. The only reason i am here still is because the money is so good it's near impossible to want to leave.

Tonight i was really thinking too much, about things and life, etc. So i geared up and went out for a jog to clear my head, about 4 miles away from the camp where i work there is these 2 guys walking in my direction. I try to stray from these situations but i have too much pride to just up and turn around for 2 guys, they could have been nice people for all i knew, and i wasn't about to hop in the tree's so i kept jogging toward them. The closer i got they started eye balling me and saying shit to me, i'm sure now they were drunk. They started talking shit when i got close so i said "keep walking boys, i'm not interested." More words were said, ultimately i stopped extremely aggrivated and welcomed the challenge.
Basically i ended up fighting these 2 guys, i was sober so i had the edge and took care of one and got the other to the ground taking my attention away from the other. Out of no where, my own fault for letting the other out of my site but still. The only thing i could see was this foot headed towards my face. He kicked me straight in the jaw, after that happened i just lost my mind and went crazy on them, but now i'm sitting home with a jaw so swollen i'm scared to sleep in fear it will lock on me.

Sorry for the semi-wall of text, but i really had to get this off my chest. If you ever consider coming to this shit hole, think twice. The money is unbelievable, i can't argue that but i don't think it's near worth the life style that comes with it.

Sounds like you live in a real douche bag town. Time for you to decide what matters to you most. Money or happiness.

Sucks that it happened though, seems like a worthless place to live. There's more in the world than money bro. :biggrin: Live somewhere you love.

I'm sorry to hear that. Sounds pretty rough. I hope that jaw gets better soon and that you can do something about the place that you live.
 
i don't think money should have precedence over quality of living, that's just me though man. I mean yeah you'll be rich but what's that mean if you have to be treated like a mindless drone.

just my thoughts, I hope you move out of there
 
I kinda hate to be the one voice of dissent here, but you got kicked in the jaw over an issue of pride. You could have kept jogging, or avoided the conflict some other way.

That and you could have easily misjudged and been beaten to death for nothing.

But hey, balls award. Just don't go to bed thinking that this isn't at least half your fault.

PS: Nothing wrong with getting in a fight over trivial shit, in my book. Just be aware of the risks you're taking, both to your personal safety and potentially personal liberty. And be especially careful in situations where you're outnumbered, lol.

/nod, not saying i wasn't partially at fault. Only really hit me today that i could have been stabbed or shot, this place is dirty and i'm really suprised neither of them had a weapon of some sort. Count my blessings i guess, and yea it's not the first time pride has gotten me into shit lol. I'm not the type to back peddle though, never have been.

sometimes it does takes the bigger man to walk away, but like you said you didn't know what these dudes had on them. they could have come after you even if you did walk away. i'm just glad you're ok dude.

you seem to know how to handle yourself but be careful will ya.

Fort mac is a hell hole. My sister went to college there and I know a lot of ex-riggers who will never go back to that place. Make your money, save every penny, and then leave, that place is a cancer.

And Malagra got it right, south Calgary is where its at. Stay away from Dover.

Haha yeah she did. From what I saw it was a really nice place, few dorms etc. You should try to get onto a rig more south and get out of those camps.

You in Calgary too? a few people from FF are that i've talked to. So far the nicest place i've lived in, in Canada (besides Nova Scotia <3 ) was Victoria, BC.

Happiness > Money

Only exception is when money is the only thing that makes you happy (which is fucked up imo). I used to have to carry a knife in my jacket sleeve where I worked but it was nowhere near what you just described. Stay safe and have a frozen bag of peas on me :\
