Sony To Charge Everyone For PSN Subscription?

to increase revenues further, we are forced to charge a subscription fee to all PSN users, instead of offering Premium services as an optional subscription. I cannot comment in depth at this time but we are looking at $60 to $80 a year

It is lol, there's no way they'll start charging, they'd prolly piss a great deal of people off. Specially with it being even more than X-Box Live, they'd just discourage people from PSN

Yeah, that has to be an April Fools joke. Pay for PSN, really? I don't think so, especially with the price bein' estimated at above the competitors online service which is leaps and bounds superior. I wouldn't pay $20 a year for PSN as it is now.

I've talked to my Sony rep at our stores in the past about PSN charging for it's service, and he told me that sometime in the future, they will be charging -- but for extra premium services like cross game chat, early ps store content access, etc. If you do not wish to pay, you don't have to, and you still get access to everything that is available on psn now for free.

When exactly this will be implemented, I don't know.

The premium service thing has been talked about for a while now. I'd totally pay for it once it becomes available, but the fact that the current PSN service would still be offered free of charge is a smart move itself.

Exactly. But unlike the XBL, you don't need to pay to play your games online, or do anything you can currently do. The 'access stuff early' idea kinda bugs me, since it'll be less about 'early' and more about 'everyone gets the stuff later,' but I'm not complaining too much.
