Zyndara said:Did you get dropped on your head as a child, you imbecile? The only place I buy my food from is... like virtually every other player in the goddamned game... the Auction House. And, lo and behold, since I'm not psychic, and I'm pretty fucking sure there's a majority of non-RMT cooking crafters out there, how the hell would I know who I'm buying from. We're not talking about okote or some multi-million gil nm drop that has a 90% chance of being RMT, we're talking about food: something used every day by every player in the game. To even attempt to make that connection, you must be either supremely stupid or unreasonably illogical at the very least.
More than one person in 60+ pages has said it, but I'll say it again for the learning imparied. There's a big difference between buying at the AH, especially something like food, which everyone uses and is crafted by a hell of a lot more non-RMT than RMT, and buying Autumnstones which are in high demand and low supply and are more often than not being peddled by RMT.
Kinda funny that I'm not the only one who's posted here who opposes the purchasing of Autumnstones yet you're singling me out. Why is that again? Do I even know you? Why would you be stalking my AH purchases anyway? I mean feel free... nothing there I'm afraid of, but really are you that bored?
Dragon Ryder said:In the same sense it's still purchasing off an RMT. so now you're telling me if ulli stone was AHable, you would be able to buy it guilt free?
Dragon Ryder said:Wow your logic and argument fails, simply coming in and saying, by buying autumnstones is bad yet anything from AH is ok because we took a chance and non-rmt sell them too?
They're actually not Ex, they're rare and you can't sell them on the AH. If you could AH it, it would be exactly the same as buying anything that is RMT dominated. There's no obligation to ask where someone got a O. kote or fumas, there's no obligation to ask where anyone got anything. Do you buy something off the AH, look at the listing and send a /tell to the person asking if they're a gil seller; and if they say yes, do you try to get a refund? No one does either of those, people just want to hide behind the anonymity of the AH and say their better than someone who buys from an unknown bazaar.Tomasello said:The Bottom line is Autumnstones are EX. So comparing it to anything on the AH is stupid. When you buy from the bazaar you can see EXACTLY who you are buying from. Isn't it your obligation considering it is a HEAVYLY camped RMT mob to find out whose level 1 mule is out there in Bastilla Downs? How hard is it to send a /tell? On the AH you can only see who you bought from only after the sale in which case it is too late. So because RMT use the AH we don't use that either? Obviously not, but EX items at least we CAN see who we buy from and we CAN take 5 mins to say in /linkshell, "Hey, anyone ever heard of Peterli or Leave? They have autumnstones out here for sale."
There's absolutely nothing wrong with buying autumnstones. But at least know who your buying from or just don't buy them. RMT hurt us all.
Skaw said:Uh, Autumnstones aren't EX. Just Rare. Theres a good bunch of items that aren't auctionable that are still tradable. If it were EX you wouldn't even be able to bazaar/trade it.

Ignorance isn't an excuse for the AH either, you know what items are RMT dominated; you know that you are in all likelihood buying one from an RMT. Unless you know someone who knows every single mule and who they belong too, you can't seriously blame someone for buying from a legitimate sounding bazaar. If it's named like they smashed their hand(or other body parts) on the keyboard, then yeah, it's probably a gil seller.Tomasello said:My point is you have NO control over the AH. You DO have control over whose bazaar you by from. Pleading ignorance is not an excuse.

The big flaw with your example here is that we're using our main accounts to bazaar the stone. If we all use mules, as most people do, then you have no idea who the mule belongs to and it becomes even more randomized than at the AH.Tomasello said:Let me use a good example...
3 People have O. Kotes for sale on the AH. Bajarett, Peterli, and Leave. I don't know whose selling them but based on what's up on the AH I have a 1/3 chance of buying from a non-RMT.
Now 3 people in Bastilla Downs have Autumnstomes for sale. Again Bajarett, Peterli, and Leave. Who am I going to buy from? Obviously Bajarett and in this case I had a 100% chance of buying from non-RMT.
That's what I mean.. control vs no control.

The AH is based on who listed for the lowest price sells first, so assuming I undercut the gil sellers, you'll get mine, otherwise you get a gil seller kote. There's nothing random about it, it's only based on the price we listed it at. If there's 3 bazaars, let's call them muleA, muleB, muleC for all the importance their name is(assuming it's not random letters or something retarded like that) only then do you have a 1/3 chance of not picking the gil seller. At that point no one should expect you to know the identity of the mule's owner, and that's what's going on here.

Why not use your LS bank money from other endeavours to fund Autumnstones? It gets the long time LS's out of sky faster and you keep out of the way of all the hard working rookie LS's that should be experiencing the rough and tumble parts of Sky that all the veteran LSs have been doing for years.
Personally I hope my LS starts buying stones, and idc where they come from.
It's really just a trade off... either your LS wants money from god drops (usually the new LS's) so they camp Ulli due to not being able to afford stones, or you care more about the gear (the LS's running sky for years and got their priorities straight) and use the money drops to buy your stones from whoever is selling em.
The same logic can be applied to buying things off the AH. You don't know who they are, you know they're most likely RMT, why not just go to them directly? The AH just lets you go "oops, I had no idea I would buy from RMT," and no one bitches about it. Buying from a random bazaar without an obvious RMT name is the exact same thing, just you can see a name beforehand. If there's no evidence who the owner of the mule is, though, there's nothing wrong with buying from them.Tomasello said:I understand how the AH works. When you don't know whose undercutting who in the AH and whose selling what then yes it is pretty random. And if you don't know who muleA muleB or muleC is then maybe you shouldn't buy from any of them. There's plenty of legitimate bazaars out there. If you don't even try to establish some /anon's identity then really, why not go directly to the RMT? Because you don't care either way who your buying from.
