Did I miss the update where SE made this actually do something, or has it been 6+ months since a promised change with nada?

They promised to do it eventually. So far the fabled Job Balancing has only covered about... four jobs.

Give it time.

Jeeze.

This is one of the hardest things to do, because you have to rewrite every Avatar ability to incorporate skill levels, test them to see if they work, then retune them again and again to where skill level doesn't send results in to astronomical levels, or below what they'd find acceptable. Give them time.

I wouldn't be so eager, if I were you. I really can't believe that I'm one of the only people to see the potential (and even likely) dark side of this change, but ... by far, the most likely method they'll use to implement this would be to have the level of effectiveness most summoners get right now with their avatars to be the "peak" that one could attain at maxed-out skill level, and actually begin to work backwards from that to account for an under-levelled skill.

Do NOT count on an actual improvement. You don't necessarily want this.

You'll notice that the very first step they took in trying to "encourage warriors to sub other jobs" was to ever-so-slightly nerf the TP effectiveness of duel wielding for them.

I don't know why everyone falls for it every time. If they tell you they want to "encourage" people to do things more one way than the other, it almost definitely doesn't mean the less popular thing to do will get a buff, unless they flat out say it will. Rather, they're going to weaken the more popular thing.

That happened before any job balancing was planned to be executed. They planned to have it occur over the summer(technically started in april,) the TP floor change happened late winter/early spring.

Also, it didn't affect Warrior at all.

Weapons under X delay got less TP
Axes are slow lol it fucked up the small katans and knifes

level 10 summon skill blood pact does 16,578 damage to Alexander Prime.

Skaw: Huh, works for me.
Me: Holy sheeit.
Winklewil: That can't be right.....

fixed

The only time I have ever noticed summon skill do anything is during the solo avatar fights.

(On Lightsday)
Uncapped: Searing Light does about 140ish damage.
Capped: Searing Light does the full 210 damage.

Nope it just can be resisted i have done up to 210 on another day(even darksday wtf) twice out of 3 often and on lights day i'm capable up to 240 with sl once or twice without resist.

every little bit helps but not something to rely on

Almost all typical War/Nin weapon combos saw no change to TP/hit, and the few that did saw a slight increase in TP/hit. They gave a dramatic boost to TP starting at around 480 delay, aka encouraging 2H weapons. How exactly was war/nin gimped by the TP change?

I missed the part where SE was trying to "encourage" Summoners to use their Summoning Magic....

Well, they gave summoners summoning magic skill for a reason. I doubt it was just for show.

SE gave Magic/combat skills to all jobs for more than just show :/

it helps spirits more than avatars and because using spirits is mediocre and mp heavy, it leaves the smn community pissed which they should be

They released their point of view about job progression at the fan fest thing, and their take on SMN was that they summon > BP > release, and that they were working on something to encourage them to do more with their avatars. They also threw in a bit about making summoning magic do something in a seperate comment I believe.

Never said that at all. They're trying to "encourage" them to give a flying fart about their summoning skill, not summons in general ... in addition to "encouraging" them to leave their avatars out instead of just pacting and dismissing.

As for the TP thing, I admittedly know very little about melee jobs, so I concede defeat on that. Still, I've noticed nobody challenged my "Main Point"™ assertion that there's a very strong likelihood that making the summoning skill "matter" could just as well mean something that is more akin to a nerf than a boost.

Once again, I can only advise against being too eager. When it comes to MMO developers, I've seen nasty surprises spring forth from (what people interpreted as) enticing promises one too many times

Thats because its a very strong possibility. I merely stated why it hasn't happened yet. It really is a lot of work to rework spells like that. Formula changes, tuning, etc.
