I've been wondering for some time why the fuck everyone is freaking out so much.
I mean, 80 deaths (which hasn't even been confirmed if it was the swine flu that killed them in the first place) in Mexico, OMG, we're all gonna die!
Seriously. More people die from falling out of their beds every day. The media makes it sound like if you touch someone you're guaranteed to die. No where have they mentioned (that I have seen) how many people in Mexico has actually got the swine flu in the first place, only how many has died.
I mean, this would be like saying we need to ban cars because over 100,000 people died from car accidents last year, without considering how many people actually rode a car last year, which I can guarantee is well over 100,000 people.
For example, every year over 20,000 people die from the flu every year. Over 40,000 people die in car accidents in the US every year, over 3 million people are injured from car accidents every year.
In comparison, more than 20,000 people were killed by the flu, while only 15,000 were murdered in the US. Hell, every year around 90 or so people die from getting struck by lightning every year. That's more people than have died in the Swine Flu.
In the past 20 years, there has been over 8,1 billion airline travels in the US, and only 2301 deaths, and yet there are a lot of people that panic when they're about to enter an airplane, even though you are more likely to die as a result of the flu.
My point is, stop believing all the shit the media spouts. They are drama queens and exaggerate stuff to make it sound more serious then it really is.
Remember a few years ago with the whole Anthrax threats and the supposed Anthrax epidemic the media talked about? Yeah, only 5 people has ever died by Anthrax in the US in the last 40 or so years.
