Taj (Windower team-member, and FFXIwiki whistleblower) hacks 9 accounts, steals gil.

W/e happened with those 9 accounts, was cause they were careless with their passwords, PM on a forum? It's well known it's beyond easy to hack into a forum, just need access to zero-day exploits and anyone who knows how to follow instructions and minimal sql/html/php knowledge can break into databases for popular forum software like phpbb or vb. I would never post an important password on a forum, and my own password while I may share it (this itself is a risk cause my PoL id is now "out there") at times, I quickly change it after the person does what they were supposed to be doing on my account. Taj just stumbled upon everything while messing with kalia's info and he just couldn't resist to hack all the accounts, at the least he did it more as a prank than personal greed, and everyone got their stuff back, they just have to wait 90days now and lose some RL money, but in the long run it's gonna work out for the "hacked" people.

I've yet to hear anyone ever lose an account without them being careless with it first.

And he didn't use their own credit cards to change server. He used his old girlfriend's (from 2 years ago) credit card.

He hacked Kalia (Divisortheory) as well last month. He didn't only hack his BG account, he hacked his paypal account and email as well, only to prove that he could, and to prove Kalia bought gil.

is hacking consider crime? that Taj guy might be hacking game information now, and bank account later on?

Chasym's stuff was also considerably less harmful to others for the most part.

I thought Taj's actions were so-so (such as the :( DC hack), but he for the most part did them to point out bugs or serious issues...to hack accounts for sh-!ts and giggles, just what the hell? Figuratively speaking, that's like giving food to the poor then burning down the homeless shelter.

I bet everyone is overrating him, he claimed he made fastfingers didn't he iirc? (lol @ having to log off of ffxi due to a "hacker war"). Besides fastfingers how was chasym a hacker in any way? I really don't remember. He'd be a script kiddie at best.
 
Thing is, Taj robbed the accounts he took, as well as shifting them to other servers.

If he'd hacked into their accounts, reset their HP to Xarcabard OP or something and then bloodwarped them there on a level 1 job, that would be vaguely humorous. Minor loss of a few thousand gil, and having to ask someone to come get you.

No, he saw an opportunity to jack the shit of a bunch of people he associated with someone that bought gil, when frankly just about everyone everywhere associates with someone who has bought gil at some level.

So he stole whatever he wanted from the accounts, and moved them to different servers. They lose all their support structures in game for 90 days, and have to shell out their own money to get back to their home servers.

In short, it was an act of colossal douche-baggery.

On a related note, is there any way to get SE involved with this stuff? I mean to either get the players back to their respective servers or to get this massive asshat banned? And am I the only one here who wants to see Taj himself get hacked to the ground for this crap. Someone just take his character, and get it suspended for a few days only for him to return to a character who's lvl 1 in everything and has no gear save the lv1 rse. One good turn deserves another^^.

Don't think this had to do with Windower hacking.

I'm sure the new verison of windower 3.3 is safe, and Taj's plugins is also safe.

Taj hacked the 9 account because he believe those people had linked to buying gil. If Taj want to hack all windower user that had use his plugin, there will be a major news/complains on windower.net fourm, and in many forums related to FFXI community about "My character been hacked!!!" or "My item/gil are stolen!! T.T!!"

This is just an isolated event involving that LS Taj was hacking in my opinion, It wasn't the right things to do what Taj did especially he is involve in windower developing. This will hurt his reputation in windower community, and giving a second thought. Windower is still a 3rd party software. If you wanna use it, you have to risk it.

You know SE doesn't give a shit about you and your character. They will say is your fault, should never give your account info in the first places, and many of their lame excuses, and always tell you "i'm sorry, i cannot recover your lost item and gil at this time..."

Also you should never have the same password on the fourm that you used in FFXI

I think as a developer of the Windower, Taj has tarnished the credibility of the said application. If he's so willing to resort to unscrupulous activity, for whatever reason, he casts doubt on the integrity of the 3rd party application he co-develops.

Personally, I am disgusted.

That'd actually be nice, as opposed to banning their associates too. There wouldn't be anyone left at that point I'd think. I wouldn't mind seeing everyone who's ever bought or sold gil or their account getting banned, and then merging the resulting dozens of people left into one server... :D
