A few things I've learned from reading this thread:
1) Taray's LS needs to learn how to write. If you're going to defend yourself, at least use grammar and punctuation, for everyone's sake.
2) Lanien has a point, and then again, he really doesn't. If a level 50-something has a train behind him in SSG, do you really think he's trying to MPK? I suppose it could be done, with Utsusemi Ni and all, but that's still pretty iffy. I'd say he's more just running for his life. You could also make the argument that Taray and Darkfat, etc. didn't see his level. Well if they didn't see his level, and his equipment, wouldn't the argument that Langly didn't see the party also be valid?
Coffers belong to whoever open them. Yeah, that's pretty true. Any one of those gilsellers that walked away could've opened it. It's fair game. Where the flame part really comes in is where they opened a coffer after inviting him. There's no need for that. It could have been opened without the need to be an asshole about it. There's really no need for that kinda stuff. Do you donate almost enough money to a homeless person for something to eat, but not quite, and then eat lunch in front of him? (yes that's an extreme example, but the behavior fits)
This could have easily been handled differently, and definitely in a more mature and understanding manner.
And my own little rant. For the past 3-4 days (and some of you have probably seen this), I've been trying to get my G1 and Ranger Artifact Hat quests done. Shouting in Jeuno, asking for help, that sort of thing (without mention of a reward). For all this time, only 3 people have answered. One wasn't applicable. Redoxide (taking a bard test in Castle Oztroja, offered to let me have a coffer key, as you may or may not know, the RNG AF quest in Oztroja isn't a coffer, but he still offered), Valandil (who helped me get my AF hat quest started in Eldieme, and killed a few liches, no paper drop), and Ugotjacked (asked if anyone needed help, assembled a party for going through gates, and getting my coal, thanks also to Tsulaa and Sepheroth). Another one did answer, and asked if I'd pay 300k if he did my hat quest (fully), and all of G1. I refused it. I'd rather reward someone for their kindness and generousity, than hire someone for their greed. And if you're someone that isn't going to help without something in it for you, are you really the kind of person I want in a party?
Maybe some gilsellers aren't so much concerned with their own characters, and don't mind helping out their customers (I'm sure those behind the characters don't know, and don't care who gets the gil they make), rather than being so concerned with their own wealth.
The not being able to open coffers while you're weakened makes some degree of sense too. So you don't just continue dying along the way just to get to a coffer, and have a high level person raise you, or just training to the coffer, getting a raise, and opening it before you get killed again. Just a measure to make sure someone has to do the work to get you there. (or themselves there, if they're high enough)
Really, the accusation of trying to MPK, up to that point, I'm sure was just a big misunderstanding. Teasing the guy with the coffer, that's just being a dick. That's going above and beyond, to be a gigantic ass. Regardless of any claims of these people being nice, they certainly weren't in the situation.
