Thanks for staying batshit insane, Nintendo.

Well obviously trying new things isnt working so...I dont know maybe sony and microsoft have the right idea.

Gee. I guess that's why the DS is outselling the PSP, huh? And I guess that's why third parties are developing games for the DS because they want to try something new.

Oh, yeah, that's why the PSP is outselling the DS on a month to month basis outside of Japan?

I'm not talking outside Japan. I'm talking all the sales worldwide for the DS, and all the sales worldwide for the PSP in one month. I'm looking for a number at the moment, but I'm only coming up with outdated stuff. Which makes me wonder where the hell these "updated" numbers are coming from.

A 200,000 sales lead in North America is something to be proud of when:

1) The DS came out during holiday 2004
2) It had 4 months to build sales before the PSP
3) The DS is less than half the price of the PSP

Seriously Cubs. Why don't you just shut the fuck up? I'm really sick of you. All you do is argue with everything everyone says. Why don't you just go watch the Flameboard for Colbwa or something.

It doesn't matter when they came out, the DS is still overselling the PSP. If you can find it, look at the comparison of sales by month, not since it came out.

We can point to this post as the moment Swish ran out of counterpoints and ran away screaming with his fingers in his ears shouting how I'm a doo-doo head all the way. But because you asked, here's the two months I could find that didn't either have no Nintendo portable figures or didn't lump the GBA and DS together:

August 2005:
Hardware
PS2 = 253,000
XBX = 134,000
GCN = 53,000
GBA = 180,000
PSP = 167,000
NDS = 103,000

May Hardware Sales

PSP = 250,000
PS2 = 273,000
Xbox = 129,000
GCN = 50,000
NDS - 57 000
GBA - 222 000

I'm not talking outside Japan. I'm talking all the sales worldwide for the DS, and all the sales worldwide for the PSP in one month. I'm looking for a number at the moment, but I'm only coming up with outdated stuff. Which makes me wonder where the hell these "updated" numbers are coming from.

Those numbers are going to be difficult to find for 'worldwide' considering the PSP hasn't been 'worldwide' until earlier this month.

Is the PSP down 1.5 million units worldwide? Yes. Is the PSP beating the DS in America month-to-month? Yes. Did it beat the DS first weekend sales numbers by 100k units in Europe? Yes.

Will the DS be successful worldwide? Yes. Will it be the best-selling next-gen portable outside of Japan? Probably not.

EDIT: Looking at the DS numbers, they sold 1.36 million DS's in the US by the end of 2004, and another 152,000 in January '05. At a conservative estimate of 50k units in February and March, the DS had 1.6 million systems sold to the PSP's 0 back in April.

Today, they're only 200k systems down. So using that math, the PSP has sold 1.4 million more units minimum over the DS since the PSP's launch.

Your such an asshole and you do it in style...can we like hang out sometime?

I haven't said much about it yet, but this is getting tedious. Enough with the god damn numbers! It's nice to know you can read sales figures and prove your conclusions through them. God forbid you think for yourself and disregard what big numbers say.

It's people like you who duplicate Excalibur and teach Sabin Ultima. :roll:

So basically this went from a topic about the new controller to some kind of weird console war. Anyway, here's a valid conclusion to the war:

People buy DS
People buy PSP
People will buy PS3
People will buy Rev
People do/will enjoy aforementioned items

There, now we're all winners. Can we discuss the controller again?

Yay! Is anyone else happy that they'll be able to jerk off to Princess Peach while playing her?

Sabia mentioned that the GC was the 2nd best-selling console worldwide and the GBA was the #1 console. Far be it from me to correct someone when they're wrong. I know, I know, pure faith in Miyamoto is more important than the reality of the public not buying what Nintendo's selling as much as they used to, or as much as you'd like.

Yeah, the truth can be boring sometimes.

Whatever cubs, just go back to playing Halo and knocking shit down that's new and innovative and has nothing but good reviews from people who have actually played it.

New controller sounds fuckin rad, I'm envious of Wired getting a chance to try it on MP Echos and can't wait until I get a chance to try it myself.

i like how the people defending nintendo use the same defense they hear when they bash mac users.

the main difference is that game consoles are for fun, and computers are for arguing on the internet.

you nerds need to see the light and realize that nintendo comes out in last place, and waits for its night in shining armor (zelda) to bring its numbers back up to par.

i'd like to see the numbers on release of gc, and when zelda came out, i'd bet they are pretty near the same. people didn't buy gc for a game console, they bought it for their favorite game, or series of games (ie mario bros.)

people buy ps2 for a game console that the can buy games for. i've seen peoples gc game collections, and they all look the same. go look at ps2 game collections and there is a wide variety of games in everyones collection.

how many times are we going to see the same games pop up over and over, only packaged with mario's name so they can actually move some units.

I love how this degenerated into a my console's dick is bigger than yours conversation and all but ... seriously kids, grow up.

Controller looks nifty, can't wait to try it.

Aside from tall that nonsense; i love how alot of people started slinging the third party devlopers being alienated around and never mentioned Sega. I'll go out on a limb right now and say that you're not only going to be looking at mario party 93 with this console.

Oh .. and btw sony and microsoft make consoles/games to fuel the penis measuring contest, nintendo makes games/console because they're confident enough to keep it in their pants.

I dont see how the size of anybodies penis has to do with any of this.

sony and microsoft consoles for a broad audience to choose what games they want to play, nintendo makes game consoles for the people that want to play the new version of mario or zelda.

Congrats on generalizing me into playing a game I don't own! And for saying negative opinions about something I've never actually used are less important than positive opinions about something you've never used.

The controller can be as innovative as you want but if it's not functional, there are problems. If your gaming setup is just like what they had in the video (i.e. sitting right in front of the TV, fairly large screen, 5-10 feet away, plenty of room for motion) then this system's going to work for you. But what about people with 13" TV's? People who can't properly place the IR sensors for gyroscopic placement? People with their TVs across the room and angled to fit the room (i.e. my family room setup.)

Of course I want to try out the Revolution, and if I end up loving the control I'll buy one and tell you how wrong I was. I'm not closing myself off to the console immediately, I'm just very, very scared that the system is not coming into my place for the same reason the DS hasn't - too much gimmick masquerading as innovation.

I wish Nintendo had a better track record of marketing their consoles around add-ons and 'innovative' stuff, because it would make me feel a LOT better. I've owned my share of looks-cool-but-ended-up worthless Nintendo (and other system) peripherals, including:

Zapper
Power Pad
U-Force
Power Glove "It's so bad" (And yes, I know, Mattel made this, not Nintendo)
Super Scope 6
SNES Mouse
Samba de Amigo Maracas
N64 Expansion Pak
The PS2 HDD (Yeah, I still play XI on it, but that's all)

Only this time I'm worried that instead of the gimmick being designed around the system, the gimmick and the system are one and the same.

That's it. Nintendo = Apple. Everything makes a lot more sense now.

Wow dude, "OH EM GEEZ!!! U LIEK NINTENDO!? UR A NERD!!!"

wake the fuck up dude . . . you're posting on a Final Fantasy XI forum arguing about video games . . .

guess what . . .

You're a fucking nerd too!!

<excitement>

By the way, has anyone actually seen the video for the Nintendo Revolution controller, rather than the picture? Probably not, so check it out here to see how cool the Revolution will be. Coupled with that controller, this system is gonna rock. Hmmm... Samurai game. Save the best for last!

Just click on the Japanese guy at the bottom. XD

Lol the fishing thing made me laugh with the old guy falling on his ass. I was reading the roundtable on IGN and they're right, can you imagine a one on one first person sword fight in LoZ? Or shotting zombies in RE? I can't even begin to imagine what they're going to do with wario ware, going to make the weekend game/drinking parties friggin awesome.

This might actually be the one thing that gets me back into Console gaming, other than LoZ and Katamari Damacy of course. :wink:

i may be becoming one, but nintendo has historically had a higher nerd/non-nerd ratio. and that is because their games don't appeal to most people outside of the nerd community.

like i said, nintendo makes the console for their limited selection of games, sony/microsoft make them for everyone.
