This is the sort of thing that really sets me off about some religious people who like to argue that atheists have no true sense of morality. If the only thing keeping you from becoming a base animal who rapes and murders with abandon is some invisible choke chain held by Jesus in the afterlife, how can you really call yourself a moral person? That's the only thing keeping you in check? Operating at the level of a five-year-old afraid of getting spanked when Daddy gets home?
And for Romper, yes. I'd throw out all their other plans if they're anti-choice. Their views on that issue influences a lot of other stuff. There are plenty of Republicans who squirm at the idea of voting for Giuliani because he's pro-choice.
If it seems trivial, there are plenty of recent Romney-inspired polls asking people if they'd vote for a Mormon. Many said they wouldn't under any circumstances; however, that number pales in comparison to the people who said they'd never vote for an atheist. Even if the atheist had super-awesome plans that would create a golden age for America, they wouldn't vote for him. I'm not pointing that out as a woe-is-me argument, but to illustrate that some "trivial" matters carry a lot of weight in who we elect.
I would vote for an Athiest. My priary point in that post was to illustrate that the US Constitution was forged with the beleif that our RIGHTS eminate from a higher power, and therefore cannot be taken away by the Govt. The evolution vs. creationism aguement is just my own personabeleifs and I apologize for even bringing them up in this forum. You are entitled to you opinion, as am I.
