One good thing about this election of two lame ducks: more Fey on SNL!

I guess the point I'm trying to make is that Democrats like to paint themselves as more intellectual. This is because they're targeting a different demographic than Republicans for the most part.

I don't think it's that the Dems want to be seen as more intellectual, necessarily. It's just that Republicans seem to shrink away from that label like a vampire from sunlight these days. It's a disturbing aspect of our culture that we act like being smart is somehow a bad thing, but then we wonder why our kids don't do as well in science and math as other countries. It's because we don't respect intelligence.

A culture that respected reason and intellect wouldn't constantly be wrangling over bullshit superstitious nonsense like creationism and Intelligent Design.

In that same regard, the press is as a whole, very liberal, and they always try and show a Republican as either very stupid, or very evil.

This part almost made me spit out my cereal from laughing so hard. Individual reporters may be liberal, but they're still working in a deeply conservative corporate atmosphere. During the buildup to the invasion of Iraq, it was next to impossible to find anyone in the mainstream media saying "You know, this might be a big mistake on our part." It also doesn't help that they're obsessed with striking false balances, where they think their job is done if they give an opposing quote without giving the reader a sense of which one is actually true.

Depends on the organization really as far as the company goes. Journalism as a whole is a field dominated by liberals, it's just true. As far as Iraq invasion, that wasn't about being conservative or liberal. If you recall, the majority of democrats supported the invasion as well. It was more about fear of being labeled unpatriotic at a time so close to 9/11 and being chicken shit in general.

Like the state of our politics, the state of our journalism can be pinpointed to the same source, general public apathy. People are uninterested in anything but soap opera style crap - I mean come on, in our debates they don't even actually debate each other, they just each say their little speech without acting like the other person is even there.

There's no conversations about the actual issues, rather everyone already has their mind made up - and it's just about getting people interested enough to get off their fat asses and actually vote.

Gotta love McCain. Suspending his campaign, trying to weasel out of the first debate and hoping like hell the VP debate will get called off so Sarah "The Dog Ate My Homework" Palin won't have to answer questions (the Katie Couric interview was a bloodbath).

Just what we need in a president... a schmuck who can't multitask. It scares me when Bush manages to have more dignity.

And he pissed off Dave Letterman.

I don't know how to post youtube clips, but I thought this was pretty funny.

(The link isn't underlined on my screen, so I don't know if you can see it. Click the word "this" and laugh. Or click it and don't laugh. Or don't click it and go laugh at something else. Or don't click and don't laugh, I guess, but that's boring.)

Other day at work, we were talking about this stuff. I mentioned how Barack isn't anything special compared to Ron Paul, and one guy started freaking out at me saying how "Obama will be president! That Ron Paul guy talks a lot of garbage !"

I told him the only reason Obama is on fire is because he's very charming and he lifts the spirit of diversity, in a nation that has a very dark past when it came to race. (The whole abducting Africans and keeping them as servants and what not). That's all a large number of America needed to see in order to make some noise about who's gonna be their new president.

In my opinion Obama says what the people want to hear, but it's not gonna happen. End the War ? no. Better Health Care ? With who's money ? American Health care is set to rise in cost for 2009.

The majority of American voters seriously need to learn how to chant on their own, and not reach out to what's being forced onto them. Recent studies have already indicated that a good percentage of American voters really have no clear understanding as to why they are voting for Obama, aside from his celebrity status.

All due respect, but that's complete crap. Just because he's black in a country with a slave history? I'm sure it has nothing to do with his being smart, hard working, and politically savvy. I'm still impressed that he defeated Hillary Clinton, who'd been largely annointed as the Democratic nominee when Obama threw his hat into the ring.

I know a lot of people get a hardon when Ron Paul opens his mouth, but the guy didn't exactly light the electorate on fire and hasn't had a great deal of success or at convincing his colleagues to do what he wants. He's got some cool positions, but that means very little if you're just a lone voice howling in the dark and can't pull any of it off. He's like the GOP's version of Dennis Kucinich.

Any predictions for tonight's Vice Presidential debate? I'm curious to know what everyone thinks, for me personally I am hoping that Biden excels through his experience. Although from what I have been reading and listening to in regards to the upcoming debate it seems that the bar is lower for Palin to the point that she can't really fail. The flip side of that is that the Palin supporters may put the spin on Biden or the media being sexist. Let's not forget that some analysts are touting the moderator, Gwen Ifill, is being touted as biased since she is writing a book about Obama.

I think as long as Biden doesn't screw up Palin will hang herself with her non-answer responses. As long as Biden doesn't look like he is being a jerk and say anything stupid he is o gonna be ok. Palin on the other hand puts her foot in her mouth every time she opens it.

It'd be more accurate to say she's writing a book about the progress of black politicians and the book will have one chapter about Obama. Why they assume it means Gwen Ifill is automatically going ga-ga over Obama is beyond me, beyond the "You know how they all stick together" mentality. She could just as easily be ga-ga for Palin because they both have ovaries, but you don't want to go introducing logic into a situation with rightwing conservatives.

Palin's debate expectations are so low they'll declare her a success as long as she doesn't shit herself on stage, which she probably would if Katie Couric was the moderator.

I really wanted to see Couric lunge at the woman and scream "Really? You really can't name one fucking magazine or newspaper you've read? What the bloody fuck?"

Palin's biggest problem is that you can tell they give her a set of talking points for particular questions or topics. But when forced off those, or pressed to give a more specific answer, she just talks gibberish. Her interview with Katie Couric was atrocious, it really was. Couric wouldn't let her BS through or dodge, she kept pressing her for specific answers and it got really ugly.

That being said though, I doubt a moderator will press her that much so she can stick to her talking points, and the bar is being set so low, she'll be fine in the debate.

Reminds me of some of obama's speeches

I love Morgan Freeman.

Something that has been really bugging is the fact that people are trying to convince me that Obama's race has nothing to do with his notoriety, which is a complete fallacy.

What? If Obama was white and running the exact same campaign, he would be beating McCain FAR FAR worse than he is right now. Anyone who thinks that his race is more of a help than a hinderance is crazy.

And Honestly, Obama is winning is so many states that Bush carried in 2000 & 2004 and McCain is trying to get just 1 that Kerry carried, this may end up being a landslide anyway. As long as the economy stays bad, which will be well after election day, McCain is toast.

That's why he's throwing the kitchen sink now, trying to change the topic, but he doesn't understand that people really don't want to hear that stuff when things are so bad.

And off topic. WTH are these 25% of Americans that think Bush is doing a good job as president, I want to meet them.

I'd be more worried about the "Bradley Effect" as it's called than speculating how well a 'white Obama' would be doing right now. The concept being that polling is not anonymous while voting is - so people who will not vote for a black candidate due to racism won't indicate that; but during the actual vote, the black candidate receives less votes than polling indicated.

I don't know if this will play a part or not in this election, though certainly I hope not. Then again I hope black people will not vote for Obama because he's black, but I know that will happen as well.

Blacks vote 90% Democratic all the time anyway. Clinton, Kerry & Gore all got 90% or above of the vote, so McCain didn't have a chance with that group anyway.

Now if Colin Powell or Condi Rice had run on a Republican ticket then it would have been interesting to see what the results would have been.

On the lighter side, while I was checking YouTube for a Rifftrax Dirty Dancing clip I could post on my blog, I stumbled across MST3K's Mike Nelson doing this:

McCain should get used to the idea of making change, too. After this election, maybe he'll have a promising new career as a Wal-Mart greeter. "Bring back that cart!"
