mostly because the fact Obama will probably win this election means the end of life as we know it to me.

Being a tad melodramatic?

And as for the coke comment, there have been loads of comments made by political parties to try to discredit the opposition. I don't believe any comments I hear that cannot be proven. Did Obama admit to this? Anyone can make up a lie.

Take one of Seattles runnings at the moment. Dave Reichert vs. Darcy Burner.
She says she has a degree from Harvard, he says she doesn't.

It's not trying to get people to vote for a person, it's trying to get people to vote against a person.

Don't have time to fully reply to Hali and you right now (at work); but quickly: He admitted to his coke addiction in his own book.

How people can be so fanatical about either one of these yahoos, I'll never know. Bush/Kerry was bad, this is worse. I'm almost longing for a Kerry/Gore ticket.....

OMG IN HIGHSCHOOL!? He's human and not perfect? Awww :( Didn't Bush do cocaine?

Seriously though, admitting fault just makes me respect him more.

hmmmm

Wow! He's not only a marxist, but a foreign chicano feminist.
I am aware of minorities seeking out other minorities to stick together. Even befriending feminist or foreigners is normal behavior for a non-marxist. Last I checked though most people don't seek out marxist or socialist or republican or democrats for friends unless they are one of them. You don't try to befriend make sure that you befriend people who hold certain political beliefs unless you are one youself.

Or are trying to unite a country that is facing economic hardships...

Demands proof for one but not the other.

Most people by now have heard of stories (real or fake) that Bush dabbled in nose candy... hence the question. She apparently didn't know that Obama did.

The thing is Obama has admitted to it so there is proof but there isn't any proof of Bush doing it.

There was no proof of Obama doing it either, he just came clean right? I think that shows character.

I agree it does show character. I would say his admittance is fucking proof though. This was in his book. its been around for some time now.

No one attacked Obama for doing coke before he admitted to doing coke. The proof has been there.

Dude, I never said there wasn't proof of it if it is in his book and he said he did it, then he did. No one is going to lie when it is not in their favour.

From Obama's own book.

I wonder how many people quoting this actually even read the book rather than tossing it out like sheep.

The book is about Obama struggling with being half black and half white, and choosing back then to try and fit in with blacks, so he chose people farthest from the establishment to prove as it says in the quote that he wasn't a sellout. Never in the book does he discuss agreeing with any of this, or even sharing common interests with any of them.

Barack Obama 'Dreams From My Father' said:
The truth was that I understood her, her and all the other black kids who felt the way she did. In their mannerisms, their speech, their mixed-up hearts, I kept recognizing pieces of myself. And that's exactly what scares me. Their confusion made me question my own racial credentials all over again, Ray's trump card still lurking in the back of my mind. I needed to put distance between them and myself that I wasn't compromised - that I was indeed still awake.
To avoid being mistaken for a sellout, I chose my friends carefully. The more politically active black students. The foreign students. The Chicanos. The Marxist professors and structural feminists, and punk rock performance poets. We smoked cigarettes and wore leather jackets. At night in the dorms, we discussed Neocolonialism, Franz Fanon, Eurocentrism, and Patriarchy. When we ground out our cigarettes in the hallway carpet or set our stereos so loud that the walls began to shake, we were resisting bourgeois society's stifling constraints. We weren't indifferent or careless or insecure. We were alienated. But this strategy alone couldn't provide the distance I wanted, from Joyce or my past."

When people cherrypick pieces (and not even the whole quote for that matter), when it is obvious they never read the source material, and are only repeating something they heard, their argument loses legitimacy to me.

Either read the books, or stop trying to use cherrypicked quotes.

People sit up here on high horses acting like they never hung out with people or said things they didn't agree with in an attempt to be part of an in crowd, or popular when they were in high school or college.
