To all the phonies and fake friends

Thats adorable Dowzer.. I see you a lot.. you are one tough cookie :3

and yes.. it sucks >< I'd post what happened to me but it's a horse beaten so dead I can't even find the remains. Long story short.. she introduced me to all of FFXI as I had never seen it, introduced me to friends whom I cherish now, even though she has long discarded them, inadvertantly introduced me to my now fiance.. brought me more joy, and more pain than anyone.. and tossed me aside for a boy-toy. How awesome is that?

lol I wasn't even talking to you or even about you. But hey if the shoe fits, go ahead and wear it. Take it personally if it rings bells. I want nothing to do with affected MMO players looking to get their internet barbie fashion shows on, so why would it surprise me that I have nothing to say to them if I'm hitting their nerves?

Actually, I believe you are talking about console players. I call them the "console generation". While it's a stereotype for sure, it's also true that many console players did not grow up with MMOs, or "long-distance" multiplayer in general. They have no idea how to properly interact with another human being in a virtual environment.

Players who grew up on PC games learned very early on, during PBEM MUDs that the primary purpose of the gameplay is not to ruin the game for the other players, but to have fun, accomplish things as a group, and take pride in the success of that group.

I don't buy that entirely. Many have said that FFXI is flooded with console mentality, and it is true that this game recruited a lot of players who have never played a MMO. But other MMO's are just as affected. If anything FFXI demands that people cooperate more than other MMOs. Pepole say other MMO's are silent compared to FFXI. A lot of the players simply jump from MMO to MMO gettting their bragging on. After all, they can't disgrace their image and show up late. It's not fiscal. They can't be the cream of the internet if they don't start the ratrace at day 1. A lot of the clash comes from MMO junkeys disappointing people who don't know what MMO's tend to be about in the end unless you are fortunate enough to be the exception that finds a niche that you would be in even if you gained nothing from it.

The majority of MMO players are self-serving users. Actually, no. I don't believe that. The majority of ENDGAME MMO players are self-serving users. The so-called gunners of the server. They are disproportionately representation by worthless characters and scum losers. If you want to find quality, you have to look. 10 whores will flash their armor and their accomplishments in your face before you find anyone worth really talking to online. Level 75 endgame concentrates fools. If you're sitting in a social linkshell of 15 while talking merrily with a 42 thief, 63 dragoon, and a 66 rdm, this doesn't apply to you. You haven't been affected yet.

But no, I don't think this is FFXI. This is MMO.

Are you surprised at all? The people that are selfserving fuckwads in the game are probably selfserving fuckwads in real life too. If anything, the fact that it is the Internet only makes them a little more brazen about it.

I'm with you, it has nothing to do with what you play, and everything to do with who you are.

A person who has been being an asshole for 20 years doesn't change overnight, if ever.

Internet amplification is only one side of the failure. I don't think MMO's amplify ego all that much...not NEARLY as much as internet forums do mind you, and by now at least a few are beginning to get the hint as to what exactly I'm trying to do here even if you can't stand it. Most people wouldn't dare send me a tell or start something with me in the game, vang being an exception there, and I've had the most vocal protesters on this forum stay silent and neutral when they're around me in the game. Then they come here to vent. So the game itself isn't the amplifier. People wear masks nicely in the game, which is why you see topics like THIS. Rarely do they wear masks when they're forum-typing. I like to wear my mask here. It's oh so much more fun here, where people are so slow to hide from me.

So no, the MMO itself doesn't amplify. I really do think that MMOs CONCENTRATE people with that mentality and put them up on stools that they don't deserve to have anywhere else. Then the last straw is that they come to the game to "get away from it all" and turn around and do to others what they've had done to them behind their mask of associatism. So in essence they've been driven to the game as a refugee while dealing what they've been dealt all along the way.

They say, "I come to the game to get away from real life! lol guys take a look at that gimp..."

It's disgusting, but it's not the game that's amplifying that. It's the type of person who tends to make it to that level. Stereotyping is call something else when it serves to explain something that is a real trend. Now I could word it more appropriately to make sure I'm not "stereotyping" but there's no fun in that at all. MMO's concentrate the hypocritical elite self-serving mask-wearers at the top. That's how you get to the top. You don't get there chatting away in a social linkshell with a dragoon who solos for xp while dabbing in thievery, a L53 whm whose cat perpetually falls in the toilet, and a medstudent who is only on 6 hours a week to try some dumb noble dynamis experiment.

I can make that shorter. It's not that the self-serving in the game are the self-serving in real life. It's worse. You not only get the overtly greedy being the same online, but it's so much easier to be greedy without repercussion here, AND the standard is lower so more people hit it. It's a game. Hard work is easy in a game where most don't think you should have to work.

The standard is so low in MMO's that it lets people achieve who honestly aren't mature enough to handle achievement. There, one sentence.

I believe this is exactly true for other MMOs as well.
I mean look at it, where are the Meridian 59 players? Where are the original UO players? Where are the original EQ players (say up to and including Velious)?

Those guys have all grown up, and have largely moved out of the MMO "scene", and are getting their entertainment from spending time with their kids, wife, house, dog, whatever.

Old school MMOing, where it was all about collectivly beating the game, not about being better than the guy next to you, is dead.

I do think we are saying the same thing, it's just that I see this as a large scale generation problem, while you seem to see it as a problem that's related to the kind of people who play MMOs.

In fact, old school MMOers are often driven out of today's MMOs because their values are mostly laughed at, dismissed as noobish attitude. Someone else wrote elsewhere (maybe even in this thread) that most players rush to 75 (or the max level in whatever MMO they are playing), while completely disregarding the content provided and the enjoyment and entertainment value they could get if they would take the time to collectivly explore the content at whatever pace they chug along.

A levle 23 can have as much, if not more, fun playing the game than a level 75. But no, a level 23 tends to, on average, hate the game because he or she is "stuck" in the grind to get to 75.

I never leveled any job to any level above 10 or so in FFXI. I did play through EQ not grinding. I did play through WoW twice, the first time grinding getting to 60, and realising how much it sucked to be there. The second time through comfortably questing and following the story lines without any rush. It took me three times longer, but I had exponentially more fun.

Not sure what I am getting at with this, maybe that people would be better players, nd perhaps better people, if they wouldn't rush content.

Either way, whether MMO's inherently concentrate compensating grubbers at the top or if the MMO mentality has changed with generation ME or whatever the teens and twenties are called these days, the end is the same. The game is dominated by mask-wearering users. It is completely gripped, loaded, infected, and affected by them. Whether it's the brazen NA gunner attitude or the passive-agressive JP mentality that a lot of people mistake for...whatever japanophiles mistake it for, it's the same thing too.

We all need to sit down and watch Christmas specials. It's better to give than to receive, and your typical MMO'er doesn't get that in the slightest. When they give, it's to get. Chalk up the favors. Put some points on the board so you can save up enough to get your favors done. Log the hours to get your internet armor. Work hard to earn your pay. WTF...Soccer mom must not have taught them that that's not how entertainment works. That, or the people who know how entertainment works don't play MMO's where the kiddos pay 13 dollars a month to grind, and the fun is in the wearing of data and holding it over others' heads while calling them gimp and common.

The saddest thing I've ever seen, even more than seeing these gripped fools work like dogs every day then come here to hold it against the "common" man...is to see someone start out in a social linkshell as a perfect player and then get sucked into the endgame world where they get infected. It's an infection because they're often perfectly fine before they get exposed. You can see the change happen overnight though. They become a fool as their gear skyrockets until their ego finally severs whatever is left of them from our lowly social.

I don't blame a generation for THAT conversion. I blame the people who perpetuate the infection, and this forum along with endgame is full of vector rats.

Peregrine,

Although Lavi started in on you in a way that seemed inappropriate, you have said a couple of things that I actually agree with. That's pretty damned rare. I'm not going to take time to discuss a whole lot with you, but I will say a couple of things. In all honesty there has been maybe 5 people who have criticized your gear openly as a major point. Vang, Tiyakelth, Meeze, maybe Skaw. That being said, I think you have a really skewed view of things.

You may have come to this forum to make people see the harsh reality of their selfish ways by acting just the same on this forum, as you say. If that is true, you have really chosen the wrong place for it. Not many here will mock people based on their gear unless it's ridiculously gimp. Things like having lvl 14 dex rings at lvl 70 as a melee. Extremely out dated gear and the like. The people who actually are that 'gimp' are rare, few and far between.

In light of that, you have chosen to rail against a forum filled largely with non-offenders. You over generalize a great many things, and offend a lot of people. Whatever you are trying to do, you have been failing at, and have been extremely rude in the process.

With all this said, there are people who take a lot of pride in the gear that they have obtained. That is their right, and just because someone has nice gear that does not mean they have stepped on the necks of others to get it. This falls in line with my points, being that those with nice gear (on these forums) are often extremely helpful and nice people. If you don't insult them they will not insult you (generally speaking). Even those on the harder edge of things.

It would be prudent of you to step back and consider who drew first blood. I think you'll find that it was you and only you who has caused this attitude to be brought to bear in your direction; and only then as a mere reaction to your actions. Often if you call someone an asshole, they will procede to be an asshole. Likewise, if you accuse someone of being an elitist, they will show you just how elitist they can be.

Just a few things to consider.

It's hardly failing. Affected MMO'ers who I can't stand wouldn't come within a half mile of me if they had to, and I wouldn't have it any other way. Business partners...pathetic. Business-savvy...you're a MMMORPG player, that's funny. Elite...you wear data that belongs to a gaming company in Japan. And accomplishment...it's all the same farming to me. So if you have those priorities, get away from me. I have a hard enough time keeping me-mentalities away from me as it is, even with all the barriers I've thrown up to keep online beggars out of my sight. I want quality, and gunners annoy me. You do know what a gunner is, don't you? They do the "accomplishment" thing too.

That people couldn't begin to understand why people follow me is how I want it given the population who is speaking. Keeps the QCDN ratracer mentality where it belongs. I'm just fine with the beggars of this forum thinking I have to pay to get people around me while I leech money from them as I push autistic children into the mud for my whim and fancy. To be hated by that mentality is a complement. Give me a red dot. Tell me you disapprove. I would like nothing more than to have the gunner elite of this forum disapprove. THAT, at least, is no mask. You think I misjudge them? That I made them into what they are in my head? No, they were always that way. They can't wait for me to play antihero. They can't wait to pit their gear against my shell. I just rend masks from their faces and let them say what they really think. You want me dead? I'm already dead to you, so stay away and keep your affected godshell pride where it does you good. Not around me. Your accomplishments have the wrong priorities, and for that we are not compatible. I'm doing you a favor by making BoL into the good guys compared to me. You can have them on your side. If you're suckling from me at this point, your mask is simply better than most. If you're around me because I provide for you and that's it...dog it's time you grew a spine and stood erect. At least then I could look you in the eye no matter how much you hated me.

If I ever come within a half mile of an endgame-affected ratracing elite-farming barbie-dressing ACCOMPLISHED braggart snot gunner in this game again, it'll be too soon. If I have someone like that around me now, and I probably still do, it's because they don't have the guts to drop the armor I provide and go somewhere that they actually belong. You don't have to like me. I prefer that joe water-farmer not like me. I play those odds. But if you don't like me, stay away from me. I'm giving you all the hints I possibly can, and yet people come back for more. You can come at me with your kote and your Fafnir until you're blue in the face. Just proves that you and me belong miles apart. You have fafnir and think that's something compared to my scorp harness I got at 74? Runt, I can buy fafnir with a night's work of the people I've recruited around me. If they don't all have my priorities, maybe they eventually will. You hit the water pot for 78 damage thanks to your elite gear. I wield the real power of the game. My social shell is ancient, and your character wouldn't last one second against my new "accomplishment." But hey, I'm sure you think what I do is nothing special given the thousands of dynamis teams on our server...think that as your influence would disappear like a fart in the wind if you didn't log on. Nice accomplishments you have there. You invested in polyester doll dresses.

/comfort....Bros before hoes and chicks before dicks. I know it seems like a high school expression, but I see a lot of older players (and people alike irl) who would never disrespect their friend(s) like that. Sorry to hear that ;-;
