Multi-Plat Top 20 Games Of The Decade

There was no 0 A.D., years 1 through 10 are a single decade.

This. But it's really not worth being technical about it. Its just easier to lump things starting from the 00s so you can call it the 10s, 20s, 30s, etc.

Google it! I did. We know 1-999 isn't an millennium but calling it one just makes it easier on everyone's life.

Btw my computers being retarded and messing up on that website atm, anyone care to list some of the games if its not too much trouble?
To not spoil the vid for others:

Spoiler:
20 was LoZ: The Windwaker.

19 was Bioshock.

18 was Braid (arcadez yo.)

17 was Uncharted 2: Among Thieves

16 was Portal.

15 was Grand Turismo 3.

14 was Deus Ex.

13 was The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind.

12 was Bejeweled.

11 was Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training (had to google the spelling.)

10 was Metal Gear Solid 2.

9 was Resident Evil 4.

8 was Guitar Hero.

7 was Half-life 2.

6 was CoD4: MW.

5 was Halo 2.

4 was The Sims.

3 was Wii Sports.

2 was WoW.

1 was GTA 3.

Thank me and DW for this btw! I couldn't be fucked to watch the video so DW did and we listed them all off. I knew like 5 of them, but we decided to do them all =D.

I agree with a lot, but not all of them btw.

I don't believe that for a second lol. CoD has generally done fairly well :P and it's EA after all, you know, despite Halo being around or not, CoD4 woulda been there.

Ele i am not here to change your opinion but i will share alittle more with you.

Without Halo's rediculous addictive online and even before that LAN play FPS' wouldnt have been reborn like they were. Sure you can be silly and say some other game would have done it, hell you could say CoD4 would have done it... Point is Halo did it and now it will forever get credit for reviving FPS' and creating a MP phenomenon.

On the other side it also should get credit for making the FPS' genre completely over flooded with trash lol..

Think what you want Ele but just look at the amount of FPS' released after Halo then look at the amount of games with competetive MP after Halo... Since the release of Halo the FPS' and shooters in general have become the most popular game type and sales back it up.

I'm so glad to see we're arguing the finer points of semantics and decade definitions in a thread about VIDEO GAMES THAT WERE POPULAR IN THE PAST TEN YEARS.

I said exactly what you said <_<

And thanks for the list. I dont really like the placement of many of the games ;|

I never got the big deal with Halo, I liked Perfect Dark more than Halo.

Ele if it were not for Halo's success in the last decade there would be no CoD4. The rage against so many FPS being released as well as the popularity of FPS' and online console MP is due to Halo. Its the first console game to have those ground breaking numbers and i am not talking sales.

I don't agree

while Halo 2 did do alot for the ONLINE console fps, COD was a powerhouse franchise long before halo 2.

if anything you could say if it wasn't for Halo, Call of Duty MW would have been all about the single player like the previous COD's. Which i actually wouldn't mind seeing, MW had a pitifully short single player.

when i saw bejeweled on the list i was like WTF at first, but after they compared it to tetris and talked about its outreach to nongamer, it made sense.

and I think half life 2 should be higher.

If MW, cod5, and MW2 didn't have multiplayer, I'd say maybe 1/3 of the people that play it now wouldn't of purchased it. Most friends I played with in cod4 said they don't even plan on playing the single player (for a while at least) in MW2 when it was released, myself included. Most everyone that plays, does only for the online play. I did enjoy the spec ops co-op though, more than the campaign. I was happy the campaign was "pitifully short" so that I could receive my achievements points and get back online.

Also I forgot to mention Morrowind, was a great game at that time, even though it had plenty of problems. But what game wouldn't being so massive. And in turn led to oblivion and fallout 3.

all the previous COD's had a multiplayer.......... on the PC

and they were all awesome.

I don't see how you can buy COD MW and not play the single player, its fuckin amazing, even if its to short : /

I thought you were saying you'd be fine if they made cod / MW games solely single player, my bad.

Nah, i just meant that i woulda liked it had they kept focus on the singleplayer, like the old ones.

not drop multiplayer all together.

not to say i don't like the multiplayer on codmw i love the perks and streaks and all the cool aspects they added. only drawback is the gap between someone just starting out and the people who've devoted their lives to it. idk how these people play long enough to get all golden weapons, its insane.

i thought i was hot shit when i got my red tiger ak, then i got capped with golden DE

When people look back on FPS's on the console, it's a pretty easy list.

Goldeneye. Perfect Dark, which ALSO had EXP and ranks. Halo. Halo 2. Call of Duties, More Halos, More Call of Duties.

There have been others, and there are some gems people recall fondly, but that's the list. A Rare game, another Rare game that was basically Goldeneye 2 in terms of multiplayer, and then Halo putting the genre into the big time.

CoD4 is impressive. CoD2 was a launch title for the 360, which came out after the first two Halos. You don't have to like the game, but you have to give the flagship its credit. Without Halo setting a benchmark, CoD would be a PC game. And without Goldeneye, Halo would blah blah blah etc.

GTA3 deserves the spot, honestly. It created sandbox games as we know them.

Edit: And also, they never specified WHICH decade. Who says they started counting in 2000? Next year, they could do another "Best Games of the Decade" (which is misleading, because the article is actually "Most Important", not "Best") and just exclude the year 2000, and include the 10 years from 2001-2010.

This.

I'm so glad Elder Scrolls made the cut. Morrowind got me hooked on xbox when I was refusing the upgrade from PS2 lol. (I refuse upgrades a lot)

But after playing Daggerfall and seeing my brother, a lifetime ago, play Morrowind I was sold.

Bethesda has since been my favorite game developer because without them, like you mentioned Ice, there would have been no awesomely amazing Oblivion and Fallout 3.

E- for a kid stuck reading Dragon Lance to escape reality into wondrous fantasy Morrowind did that for me.. for many many hours.

QFT

when the video got to morrowind, and i heard that music, i nostalgad so hard. I loved morrowind, never has wandering aimlessly been so much fun. except for maybe in oblivion and fallout 3 =)

Morrowind is the first and almost the only game in which i can remember thinking, damn, this place is almost TO big! Its so overwhelming in its sheer size, you almost don't even know where to start. So you just wander, and and then a wizard falls out of the sky.

Bethesda rocks.

You realize you get the golden desert eagle just by obtaining rank 55 right? Don't have to do anything for it. But all the other guns are a bitch to get golden. Well shotgun wasn't too hard, since there weren't many shotguns in the game.

That has to be the most pathetic list I've ever seen. I know Gamesradar is fuckin' fail but wow, that's a shitty, shitty list.

This it'd be fine and dandy if there was a zero year.
Spoiler:
there wasn't.

Also when you count to 10 you start with 1, not 0.

Halo 3 came out before COD MW and that had exp to rank up. So it didn't really bring anything 'important' as to say to the FPS genre. So why should it be higher than Halo 2 then?

actually, cod1 had a ranking system also

the most important one that most are forgetting is battlefield 2.

edit: just watched the video. they should edit about 3 of the games listed in it, take those 3 out, and title it "the 20 most unimportant games of the decade"

Except were talking about the past decade, and the past 10 years begins with 00-01 and 09-10. Obviously we didnt begin with year 0, but the game listed were in the past 10 years, so the title is valid.

I think Sims came out in 2000 though so I think that means it's 2000 - 2009.
