Treasure Coffers, Priorities...

Glad I wasn't hunting for my Garlaige Coffer that night >.>;;

Lemme know when you're going about plundering stuff ya Sneaky pirate, so I know to not look for my coffer :P

^^ Hehehe.
If anything, I am nice by not going /anon like 90% of people in Castle O.
/sea THF would show that I was there. A simple /tell to me mentioning intentions would have kept me from randomly popping coffers.

I hold them to that accountability as much as I can be held to sending them a /tell...Even more so. Why should their concern be mine if they don't care to tell me about it?

I'm more than willing to help and be courteous, but when I see a coffer, I tend to pop it and keep moving. I don't think that's wrong...I don't go out of my way to find them or "steal" them from people. But if I see one, I pop it. I have every right.

And they had every chance to pop it as well. <that's too bad>

See, that's how I differ in opinion. I keep a bit of a record about what chests are used for what. For instance, when I'm farming in Delkfutts tower, if I get a key I immediately drop it. Why? Because I know BST AF1 is in that chest, and even if there aren't any BST looking for the chest, someone might be and I don't know about it, and I'm not going to cause them any unneccesary greif in their quest just because I want a few thousand gil or a random item I can sell on AH.

Really what it comes down to though, is you. Undoubtedly if you didn't open it, someone else would have, whether they were looking for AF or not. I just believe that there's no reason to be part of that. To each their own I say.

In the case of Castle O, there is not even a map. But I think that a map is as important as anything else. When comparing a small amount of gil compared to AF, of course I agree on what's more important. The AF.
Without communication from them or myself, nobody knew of intentions. As I said, it was out of habit that I popped it somewhat quickly. After I popped it, I became aware of their intentions. I would never pop another coffer then.

I guess what I am getting at is that, if it's AF you're after...If it's important enough to you that you don't want to lose the claim of that coffer, it's best just to pop it. If you don't, and take your sweet ass time, you had better be prepared to lose it. I wasn't out to screw them...Just farming. It's part of what I do there. C'est la vie. It's happened to me. Action > words.

I had thought of this briefly...
But I guess my point is, what concern of mine is another's need?
I don't know what anyone's need is. Not unless they tell me.
I was just there farming. Farming was my need. Doesn't really matter what pops out of the coffer to me. I see one, I pop it. 8/10 times, that's a good thing for me.

As mentioned, they had ample time to pop that coffer. You only need a few seconds. When I did mine (solo), I saw one and popped that thing as quickly as I could. Coffers are there to be popped.

I agree this could have gone differently had I /checked them, or sent them /tells about it, that is besides the point.

The point is based on prioritizing...If you came to pop a coffer for AF, I don't really care what the situation is, pop that sucker! If you don't, and lose it, then at least don't bitch about it just because you're slow as hell.
I had no way to tell what their intentions were, nor should I care, as their need for that coffer should have taken priority one...It didn't, and they lost out.

I can only feel so bad for doing what I came there to do.

all you had to do was ask. would that have killed you to do so?
all of this farming stuff and priority is only an excuse for your greediness.
i.e. i was in a helm beetle pt in CN. this trio of key hunters led by Willya comes and slaughters all our mobs and drives my pt and another pt out.
it's common decency. say you're buying tickets and you don't know where the end of the line is, do you hop into whatever space you see, or go to the window since the next person hasn't gotten there yet? cause if you did that, you'd get your ass kicked. while this is only a game and all you can get it blisted, please show some courtesy. having someone enjoy his AF while you are 14k short is more enjoyable for some people. you may be 14k richer, but you cement the fact that NA players are greed before need.

This is the attitude I'm talking about. It makes me feel much better about taking what is as much mine as it is anyone else's.

If it's important, pop it, you dumb fuck!

If it's important to you, do something to communicate to people.

As I mentioned, this was more of a reactionary thing. Plus, they took their sweet time with it. The fact that you bring up stereotypes about NA players cements nothing. There are dumb shits on both sides.

Sometimes, Yanzi, shit happens. Sometimes it doesn't go the best way for everyone. I explained that. It's not something that was as simple as, "Well why didn't you just blah blah blah..."
I even said I felt kind of bad once I saw that the guy sending me rude tells was a 50 THF...Then I thought about the rude tells and said, "Fuck him."

If I was given a reason to care or to help in any way, I would have, period. So don't make me out to be the bad guy because I didn't ask them before popping a coffer that they are just standing around.
This shit reminds me of the dork from the neighborhood who would bring the bat and ball to the baseball diamond, not get his way about something, then flaunt the fact that he was taking his bat and ball home with him. Whatever, kid. We can go get another bat and another ball.

...Other coffers will pop.

Why should sneakypants have to go to all of the effort to make sure that she doesn't possibly offend someone with any action they take? They could have easily done something to stop sneakypants from getting the coffer, even a simple <stop> would work. Both sides are at fault, Sneakypants for not asking, the others for not doing a thing to get the coffer.

There are plenty of NA AND JP players who would have popped it and /laugh in the face of the people standing around, so don't try to shove this into a "NA only" problem. Sneakypants even said he felt bad that one of them was a thf, but began to lose sympathy after recieving insults from them. I have yet to see a JP player(or NA for that matter, but JP is to prove the point) who would stop what they're doing to make sure if I need something before benefitting themselves(not counting a cure or raise).

Maybe pullers should now /tell all of the competing pullers that they're about to pull a mob and ask if anyone else needs it before they pull. Since they might otherwise beseen as a greedy NA player, that seems to be the only option. The other party should have popped it asap, not stand around waiting and hoping that no one would take it.

I don't even think you've read the whole thread, which is sad because it's so short, since you apparently didn't catch when sneakypants said multiple times that he would have left it if he knew they were going for AF. They could have very well been doing war AF there(I think it's war), which requires killing leeches for some drop, so it's not like it was a sure thing they even wanted the coffer. Stop acting like NA are the only greedy players on the server.

You popped it; they didn't. It was yours. When I camp Spiny Spippi, I don't do a sea all for level 10 whms to make sure someone else couldn't benefit more than myself. Need>Greed? Only the people who need say that. Everyone "needs". Some people need AF, and some people need gil. They had the coffer right in front of them, and got cocky and didn't pop it, because they were greedy and wanted the drops from the leeches as well. I would've popped the coffer too if I were a thief. Noone else would care about you, so you aren't obligated to return the favor. FFXI is all about looking out for #1. Greed killed cooperation a long time ago. If they aren't your friends, you have no need to put their whims above your own. It's not like you saw a person trying to get their AF, and used flee and beat them to the punch. Being nice only goes so far.

Uh-huh...
I am very considerate. Many here can vouch for that, you fuck.

It's not like I made it a point to "steal" the coffer. I just took it as I usually do. Slow pokes got angry. Too bad for them. I was unaware of their agenda, and frankly, have no reason to give a shit unless they say something. I'm not going to ask everyone in Oz what they are doing there, as I walk on eggshells.

like i've said all along, it wouldn't have killed him if he had tried to be courteous. i didn't pop that castle zvhal coffer, i'm short a few k, that's not going to make me go suicide now since i missed out on some gil.
let's just all be friendly and courteous, it'll make the game much more enjoyable.

has it occurred to you there may have been another reason they didn't pop it? like if they just wanted to make sure it was safe? you claim someone can pop and warp, but what kind of impression does it make for the helpers?

Why is it every time I make a post and I post several points in it, people only respond to one sentence(sometimes not even that much), which isn't even the crux of one of the points?

Yes, I have read the whole thread, that's why I know that sneakypants said he would have left the coffer alone if he knew they wanted it for AF. There's a difference between courteous and being a rug. No one asks every single person in a zone what they're doing in case it might interfere with something you're doing. Don't make it out like sneakypants went over there with the sole purpose of preventing that thf from getting AF. It was a chance occurance that the coffer was there when he passed by, and they didn't try to stop him.

So you didn't pop the coffer in your situation, how nice, you want a cookie? The fact of the matter is, they had the coffer, but didn't pop it. They made no attempt to stop someone else from getting it, so anyone else getting it was fair game.

in hindsight, we do know they were after the coffer due to the angry tells.
all i'm saying is that it is something that could have been completely avoided with just some courtesy and/or common sense vs. letting greed run wild.

Yes, it could have been avoided, but just don't shove all the blame onto one person, both groups could have done something.

Yes I agree it could have gone better. There's always room to improve.

What I'm trying to gauge is a general feel for (regardless of what's in store for AF or treasure hunters) what kind of time is acceptable to lollygag around a coffer before it's more or less acceptable for another to take what's in it???

As I said, I gave 15 seconds. I feel that was good enough, considering they were on it and could have popped it, and didn't. I didn't see their urgency until I got the tells from them. Still, other coffers will pop. I have gone through the same trials myself when popping coffers and camping NMs...There's gray area. I think I gave ample time. If they asked me for help in looking for the next one, I would have been happy to help. I was just unaware of what they needed. Their aggressive responses showed true colors though. I think it was pretty clear who was really being selfish, and trying to push a double standard.

It's not my fault they suck at popping coffers.

Actually, yes. And I explained that I did think they were trying to kill leeches first. What the thread is about it priority. If you were after something you'd consider important, you had HL help, no aggro on you, why not pop first (a few seconds) and engage the MOBs immediately after.
As far as what message warping out on your helpers gives, that's between the helpers and the AF hunter...And that's not even what I said. I said I did that SOLO.

you claim he was 50. at 50, yags and leeches will aggro. he could have been just been trying to be careful before he pooped the coffer. i've been in enough situations where you try to help someone, they end up aggroing something and dying. tell me that's not what you would rather have happen?

I don't. I feel justified in my actions. It was fair game. I gave time. I took it. As mentioned, shit or get off the pot.

And yes, he was rank ten, level 50, and with HL help.
Safety can be had after taking 3 seconds to pop the coffer first, can it not?
He was perfectly safe...I watched long enough to see that.

I have said many times that I wasn't out to deliberately screw the guy, but you use this to push your own JP agenda rather than respond to what I have asked many times.

See, look what you do for the NA image crap is a stretch, man. That's not what this is about.

well, let's see, for the coffer you popped to piss off people, i didn't pop 1 coffer to not piss off people. so i guess NA are back to status quo.
your excuse/story is weak, and only a weak justification for your greedy actions.

How is it more greedy to pop a coffer when someone's around than when no one's around? If you know that they are looking for AF, that's one thing, but if you have no idea, greed is moot. Since he didn't know their intentions, they might have wanted it for money, if they even wanted it at all. Since they weren't making a visible effort to get the coffer, they lost all claim on it and anyone who was there could take it, fair game.
