"unofficial" talk of the legit ffxi windower mode.

And your keyboard that can do all these neat nifty things might give you an unfair advantage, but the key is it's sanctioned by SE. If they give them away as prizes, they're sanctioned. It's SE's game. SE gets to decide which of its own rules to be flexible on.

eh, its not that its "sanctioned", its that they cant do shit about what keyboard you use or dont use...

To someone like me who uses NO external devices aside from a regular run-of-the-mill mouse and keyboard, having one of your neat nifty new ones does provide an unfair advantage. Granted, it's sanctioned by SE, so I can't really say or do anything about it. However, I will PERSONALLY always feel that those who do are in fact having an unfair advantage over me.

But I hardly matter.

A cheat is defined by each and every one of ourselves. I personally feel longer macros are a cheat, so I don't use them. I also consider bots a cheat, so I don't use them. I also consider flee tools a cheat, so I don't use them. And I do my best in all circumstances to avoid any people who use what I define as cheats.

Other people will define it differently. They may, like you, see windower as nothing unusual. More power to ya. I have friends who use windower. I don't preach down fire and brimstone on their asses, I just don't use it myself. I have made my decisions. Others should do the same. And GMs should do the rest.

And if used a different method of device? Like if i hooked up a gamepad with turbo controls, or used dual-screens on my PC.
And if I happen to have 4 computers in my house? Well whoopty-shit. That has nothing to do with rules of ffxi whatsoever anyway. It's completely external to this conversation IMO.

eh, its not that its "sanctioned", its that they cant do shit about what keyboard you use or dont use...

The reason I chose the term "sanctioned" is due to the fact SE gives them away. That seems pretty sanctioned to me.

I do not have a windower but i'd use one if i could. i dont know how often my FFXI game crashes cuz of low mouse battery, norton, firewall, instant messeging..etc updates yadda yadda. and its pretty annoying when you dont remember who invited you to the party when you get back online.

So Im going to sound totally stupid here but ...
Yes I use windower. Im anal and track my crafting profits on excel so I like to be able to flip back and forth to the spreadsheat. Also I use it for guides on missions/quests/etc. But I turn off the party tp/mp thing because I was told it dings back to the server or some such stuff that I dont understand. What is everyone talking about extra macro space? I have the same basic macros as everyone else does, as I have when I dont run windower. So am I missing something here? I mean I dont care about the extra space. I have 4 rows of extra macro space, but I feel out of the loop here! Please enlighten me!

Sent you a PM explaining it since I don't want to get some people panties in a bunch.

Another person unable to differenciate between cheats and "Cheats."

Go hang out with Firestreak.

I understand the difference between cheats and "Cheats". I just don't place any value in the difference. Are there degrees of cheating? Sure there are. But does it matter? Not to me. I don't really like real-life analogies, but I'm about to use one, so I hope it applies. Some people steal, and some people don't. It doesn't matter if you steal a wallet or a car, you're still a thief. Just because some people steal cars, doesn't mean people who only steal wallets are ok. To a person who doesn't steal at all, no degree of stealing is acceptable. You can define degrees of cheating all day long, but it doesn't change your label. All cheaters should face the TOS penalties for cheating. Then the cheater can argue to the GM that they don't cheat as severely as others do.

You'll all be glad in a few months when SE gives you TP and alliance HP/MP.

We've set the stage. They've caved because a significant amount of their users told them they wanted something. Now we just need to tell them that was good, but we want more.
